Child/Tama Hini: Hosna. Teacher/ Kaiako: Naema.

Date: August/Here-turi-
kōkā, 2019.

Assalamu-Alaykum Hosna, your last story was about how you have gained the
confidence during your transition time and have become comfortable to
explore the preschool environment. During these last few weeks I have kept a
reciprocal relationship with you and encouraged you get more familiar with
the preschool environment, people, routines and rules. I am also providing
guidence and encouragment for you to become increasingly capable of
understanding how things work in preschool and adapt to the changes. Now
you are independently bringing your lunch box and bottle of from the trolley.
You have developed some understing of from where you can get the paper to
do your drawing. You are also comfortable to ask your teacher for help when
needed.
Today you were coming out from the sand-pit and saw Mariam playing on the
obstacle course and climbing up on the blue box. You went through the tunnel
to slide down, you followed her but when you climbed up on the blue box you
hesitated. I asked Hosna would you like me to help? You nodded your head. I
encouraged you to use your manners and say, “Yes please.” I noticed you
moving your lips and nodding your head. I supported you to get the balance to
walk on the plunk and reached the tunnel. You were very happy going through
the tunnel to slide. I noticed you came straight from the slide and climbed on
the box and stretched your arm and mumbled. It sounded like “please”. You
held my hand to go on the plank. I praised you for your manners, Ka pai Hosna.
What is Happening?
Hosna! You have been developing the a great sense of belonging in yourself
and are able to make decisions as you enjoyed the activity of climbing on the
obstacle course and used words like please to get help when needed. It is also
evident that you are more comfortable when trying new things and are
involved as you were playing with the rings and in the sand pit with big kids.

How can we extend this learning?

Hosna, your attendence was not regulare this month therefore staff will
continue keeping a reciprocal relationship with you to become more familiar
with the preschool environment, people, routines and rules. The staff will also
continue encouraging you to get guidence to become increasingly capable of
understanding how things work in preschool and adapt to the changes.
