DESCRIPTION
Our podcast is all about how social media has shaped society in both good and bad
ways. We plan to start off by looking at how social media has shaped people’s
perceptions of themselves. That will then lead us into how people on social media can
influence the way people think their lives should be lived. It will show how people will
see something like matcha tea from an influencer and then overnight everybody is
obsessed with matcha tea. It will then flow into how companies use pyramid schemes
to get young people involved with their brands through making them ambassadors and
shaping the way their social media feeds should appear.

PODCAST TOPIC
The topic of our podcast is how social media in many different aspects shapes
people’s perceptions of themselves.

GENRE OF PODCAST
Our podcast fits under the genre of “Society and Culture.” It fits under this genre
because it talks about how our society has been shaped since the beginning of social
media and the iphone generation. Society is shaped to think they are to look a certain
way based off of social media and social media culture.

DESCRIPTION OF HOST
We (Reegan and Sydney) are co-hosting the podcast together. We both are from
Southern California and are sophomores. We both also are studying to be elementary
school teachers.
I’m Sydney. I am a sophomore at ASU. I am from California, and my major is
Special Education and Early Elementary Education. I love traveling, and two summers
ago I went to seven different countries in just nineteen days! I love living in Arizona,
but I plan on moving back to California after I graduate to try and get a job closer to
job.
Hi, I’m Reegan. I transferred to ASU this semester from a school in Lower
Manhattan called Pace University. I am double majoring in elementary education and
marketing. I love to travel and try new things. In the last 5 years I have lived in 5
states, but I plan to stay in Arizona for the next couple years.

ESTIMATED LENGTH OF SHOW

Our estimated podcast time would probably be around 30-40 mins. We want it to be
long enough that is informative but also short enough that our intended audience has
the time and patience to listen to it. Our intended audience would be young people
who are influenced by social media. If it was any longer we think our audience would
lose interest.

PROPOSED FREQUENCY OF THE SHOW

We think the frequency of the show should be every two weeks. Not too often and
not too long apart to keep people’s interest. That way we will have a variety of
things to talk about and discuss without getting repetitive. The more frequent the
podcast is the more likely it starts to all sound the same, which we do not want to
happen.

themselves
3. Explain different ways social media impact people’s lives
4. Talk about different examples
5. Describe the differences in the examples
6. Acknowledge how the different examples impact people’s perception of
themselves in different ways
7. Wrap up and summarize
8. End with music

SCRIPT VS OUTLINE
We chose to do it unscripted and just discuss the topic between ourselves. Because
our topic is so broad it made more sense to have an open, opinionated, and
educated discussion then read a script. We are not interviewing anybody, it will be
done internally. We chose to do it this way because that way we can show our
personalities more in the podcast which will make it more interesting and fun.
