Brief History:
I was born in 1988, in center Nga Khu Ya village, Maungdaw township. My father is Abu Baw Shaw,
and my mother is Zu Lay Khar. I am the 4th of 11 siblings. I went to school from kindergarten until
grade 10, in Nga Khu Ya village. Then, after leaving school, from 2007-2009, I worked as a helper in
the village chief’s office. And, from 2010 until 2013, I taught our village children - from kindergarten
through grade 5. The parents of the students paid me 1500 Burmese kyat [$1 US] a month. There
were about 30 students that studied with me. In 2012 I married Kaw Htee Zar, from center Nga Khu
Ya village. Her father is Ma Men Nya, and her mother is Zaw Da. I have 2 children with my wife. From
2014 until the attacks happened [October 9, 2016] I also worked as a salesman in the shop of U
Recruitment:
One day when I was sitting in the teashop with Arabic teacher Mawlawi [Imam] Ar Kis, ( F ) Har Bis,
age 30, and Jamar Mat, ( F ) Eli Yat, age 14, we were having tea and a Bengali Mawlawi named Kar
Baek Tular came and asked me, “Would you like to join the RSO (Rohingya Solidarity Organization) in
Bangladesh?” But I said, “No, I don’t want to because I have a job here.” Then, Mawlawi Kar Baek
Tular asked Mawlawk Ar Kis if he would like to join the RSO. Mawlawi Kar Baek Tular talked about it
and convinced Mawlawi Ar Bis, and he agreed to join them. I didn’t know how much money the RSO
would give to the recruits, like him. This occurred about one month ago [mid-September, 2016].
About two weeks ago, in the same place, two other Bengalis - Mawlawi Adu Ra Man and Mawlawi
Mu Nit - persuasively talked to 30 young Bengali men, but only 10 of them decided to join the
militants at that time. [many more joined later]
Militant Training:
About 20 days ago there was training on land owned by Mawlawi Adu Ra Man. He taught karate
fighting techniques and other skills. Mawlawi Kar Baek Tular campaigned among the young men and
told them that they must take the militant training courses. I heard that they are also giving the
militant training in U Shay Kya village, but I don’t know how many Bengalis attended the training at
that time.
2. Mawlawi Ar Yu, age – 30, owner of shrimp pond, west U Shay Kya village
3. Eli Yeak, age – 35, medicine shopkeeper, west U Shay Kya village
4. Bar Bu Yar, age – 35, owner of shrimp pond, north U Shay Kya village
These 4 leaders were the main leaders, with the plans to attack the Nga Khu Ya Border Guard Police
Base. They called a lot of meetings in U Shay Kya village, to plan the attacks. And, I heard that 3
Bengalis arrived from Bangladesh and spent 3-4 days in U Shay Kya village, but I don’t know any
details about their visit. I worked in the village chief’s office, when I was living in the village, and I had
a good relationship with other people. I didn’t join those Bengalis when they called a secret meeting.
During the 2nd week of June, 2016, Mawlawi Kar Baek Tular, ( F ) Bar Shar, age 26, from center Nga
Khu Ya village, and Har Kat, ( F ) Mawlawi Mu Tunar, age 32, from north Nga Khu Ya village told me
that we would make a Rohingya State. That’s why we need more and more young Bengalis trained
with militant skills. The Bengalis who have already taken the militant training receive support money
that comes from Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Dubai.
