Reflection

Throughout the course of this class, many of my online skills have been tested and

refined. Over this course, I have learned many new skills due to the creation of my Weebly

website. Some of these skills include approaching new computer-based tasks more easily and

with greater confidence, locate, open, and use the following software applications at an

intermediate level, and navigate and research the internet for information, assess and document

the validity and reliability of the information gathered.

Due to my time with this course, I have become able to approach new computer-based

tasks more easily with a greater confidence than I had previous to taking this class. I have never

been one who fancies computers, and due to this, I have always had a worse ability to complete

computer-based tasks than my peers and friends did. However, due to this class, I now have a

new sense of confidence because I have experimented and used multiple sources of computer

programs to solve and participate in the activities which have been laid out throughout the

course. If I were to be given an assignment in any aspect of my life which requires me to use my

computer or some computer program, I am much more confident as I have the skills to complete

these tasks.

This course has also to use software applications at a much higher level than before.

Before taking this class, I had only used software such as Google Drive and Microsoft Excel

very mildly and avoiding them often. However, the assignments which involved Google Drive

and Microsoft Excel were eye opening. Those assignments taught me how to use these software

much more efficiently and with much more finesse. This was my lightbulb moment. Google

Drive and Microsoft Excel are both programs which are very useful programs when presenting

information. I will be sure to best use these programs in my future. Both the Google Drive and

Microsoft Excel assignments were the most fun and most informative.

An underlying aspect of this course which I am taking the most away from is being able

to navigate the internet for information and the validity and reliability of the sources of

information. This course often required the use of research in certain assignments, such as the

infographics assignment, and put a heavy emphasis on how to find reliable sources of

information. By requiring valid and reliable sources of information, this course has helped me

discover useful websites and databases which house a multitude of different reliable resources.

For instance, in my infographic assignment, I discovered many reliable and unreliable sources of

information and was able to accurately determine which information to use due to many

resources of this course. For the infographic assignment, I researched populations of cities. I was

able to determine that government websites are the most reliable source of information for this

topic because of the Census Bureau which publishes purely analytical information regarding

populations of counties, states, and the country.

This course has helped shape my experience with computer and online technologies.

Before taking this course, my knowledge and confidence with using many different computer

software and resources was very low; however, this course has taught me confidence as now I

am able to develop my computer skills. This course has taught me how to approach new

computer-based tasks more easily and with greater confidence, locate, open, and use the

following software applications at an intermediate level, and navigate and research the internet

for information, assess and document the validity and reliability of the information gathered.
