Task 3

Making an advert Maryam

Lesson (unit/page) Student teacher

MST Nadiya School Murbah

Class 7 Date October 29th 2019

Select
What standards or LOs were being addressed in the lesson?
How did you cater for learners with special needs, and for differentiation?
How did you use positive reinforcement? Methods? For what?
How did you sequence or scaffold activities so that they built gradually towards the learning
objectives?

This lesson the goals were to identify an advert and brainstorm adjectives and to produce and
write an advert. These learning objectives were identified to meet students needs and ability as it
was a part two lesson which students are familiar with some adjectives should be used for
adverts. I did sequence the lesson from the warming up, I started with the hangman game as they
had to predict the lesson title and then I identified students with the learning objectives. I began
the lesson with asking questions related to their prior knowledge so that I can observe their level
of understanding and their knowledge. Moving to the video, I asked them to focus on the
adjectives or words that will attract their attention based on that video, I asked each group to
make their mind-map then write three sentences about the topic. After they done with the
sentences, I heard each group sentences and asked them to choose one sentence and write it on
the board. I did that because I wanted them to think of the sentences they wrote and see whether
they were attractive and interesting sentences to use for adverts. After that, I did explain how to
make an attractive advert and showed them related pictures of different adverts. As a final and
achieving the learning objectives, I provided each group with different materials to use and create
their adverts based on the different topic they had inside the envelop. Students had time to
present their adverts and were so creative and interesting.

Overall aim and context of the lesson (that is, describe the lesson’s place in the unit of work. What
did students need to know before today’s LOs were addressed? What topic comes next and how did
today’s lesson prepare students for that?)
This lesson took a place after lesson 8 which was also about adverts part two. Students were
familiar with the adjectives as they could use it in their advert and during the lesson. They are
also familiar with linking words and how adverts look like. There are two lessons related to the
adverts where they have the first lesson which is reading about adverts and this one is making an
advert as I included in the learning objectives. These were the last lessons in the unit and they
have a review for the whole unit after this lesson. The lesson prepared students to learn how to
make their adverts as well as how to make it attractive.

Describe
Who is the lesson for?
Where did the lesson take place?
What were you aiming to achieve in your lesson?
What experiences did you provide to the students to help them to achieve your aims for them?

This lesson was for grade seven students which took a place in the classroom. I was aiming to
achieve classroom managements, time management, and good transition. I provided students
with different materials and tasks to be done through the lesson like the hangman game, video,
mind-map and the poster. For the time management, I gave students extra time for making their
adverts which was already enough time and did not go as I planned but all students got the time
to present their work even when the bell rang they wanted to share and present it.

Analyze
Were students excited, always occupied, and remained on task during the lesson?
Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

As I observed, students were excited from the warming up to identify the lesson title. Students
were interesting and they participated as groups during the tasks and had fun doing the advert in
creative way. I think, they responded that way because they were engaged and already familiar
with the topic. Also, I think they enjoyed the lesson because the warming up was attractive and
they started with a simple guessing game. This lesson was related to the students prior knowledge
like the adverts in general, attractive words or adjectives, and linking words.
Appraise
Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective.
Did your lesson meet your teaching goals? Use your students’ performance on the end of lesson
assessment as support (Give proof in your portfolio)
The students were engaged and encouraged to do the different activities as most of them were
done in groups. As I observed, students were able to write other adjectives and use them in
sentences but they did not know how to write attractive sentences until I explained and showed
them some samples. I think, the lesson met my teaching goals and both of us achieved and
reached what we wanted to as well as the students were able to present their work and speak
about their adverts.

Transform
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?
What are the implications for your professional practice of helping students to enhance their
learning in this particular way? (i.e. what skill will you have to develop or learn? What professional
development will you have to undertake?)

I think that, I could enhance this lesson in the future by having good transition between each
stage and I could ask questions at least to pay their attention to each stage and game.
Furthermore, I could link their prior knowledge more for instance, give them the chance to speak
about the adverts and what did they learn in part one. I do not think that I want to change the
activities because I noticed that students were engaged and motivated to learn and implement.
However, I could enhance the video part and ask students to focus on the words that attracted
them to that video instead of adjectives. As well as, the time that spent on the last activity was
extra so I do not think I will spend more than the ten minutes.
