Educational Philosophy on Preschool Children By Lois Walters

I believe that as an Early Childhood Educator, it is my responsibility to provide each child with the tools
and support they need to succeed in life. To help them see their own worth and to help them realize
that they are a valued member of society and that they can make a positive difference in the world.

My philosophy is based on life experiences and a little bit of each one of the great theorists. I have
always used techniques that go back to the theorists without even knowing that was where they
originated. I have been very blessed to have met and worked for many parents over the years and I have
learned a lot by watching how each one handles different situations whether good or bad. I have taken
my observations along with my own personal experience and the knowledge I have gained from the
classes I have taken to put together my philosophy. I will continue to learn new ways to handle issues
that may arise throughout my career, but this is my foundation to build on.

My policy on handling unwanted behaviors is to guide the child through the mistaken behavior and
teach them a better and more appropriate way to handle whatever the problem may be. Instead of
punishing the inappropriate behavior, teach them a better way to work through their problem and build
the skills they need to make better choices in the future.

My role as a teacher is to provide my children with positive learning experiences that will enable them
to reach their full potential. Children are motivated by new and exciting experiences and will retain
more if they are interested in the activities that are available to them.

I always try to be aware of what interests the children have at all times so I can arrange the environment
in a way to meet the needs of each one in new and interesting ways.

My goals as a teacher are to continue to educate myself and learn new ways to incorporate the different
cultures and backgrounds and be able to provide a diverse learning atmosphere for all.

In my years of experience, I have come to realize that kids just want to be kids. I want them to be
themselves to their highest potential. I want every child to be given every opportunity to succeed at
whatever they dream up.

As a teacher, I will strive to build relationships with all families that are based on trust. I believe the
ultimate child care revolves around every important person in a child’s life communicating and doing
what is best for that child.

I have always had a great connection with children and have gotten good results in behavior and
development. I will always strive to do my best at instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment in each
and every child.

This is my dream job. My passion in life. I will spend the rest of my life educating myself and making a
difference in the lives of all my charges. With a little encouragement and a lot of love, anyone can do
anything.
