On Plagiarism

It is to be expected that being in a university would entail accomplishing considerable


amounts of writing assignments, academic papers, and researches. It is pertinent,
therefore, that students uphold academic integrity at all times.

Plagiarism is a serious offense. Some may not even be aware that they are already
doing it. Follow the links in this module and read the articles carefully to be able to
consciously avoid plagiarism.

A. Common Misconceptions about Plagiarism


Unintentional plagiarism is not an acceptable excuse for plagiarizing other people’s
work. Some people may think that using quotation marks, summarizing, and/or
paraphrasing without properly citing the sources are enough. While others may not
even be aware that copying portions of their own previous work is considered
plagiarism.

It is possible that many people unknowingly plagiarize because of the misconceptions
