Network Bandwidth:

The results of our testing of ripped file size for


PCL6, PostScript 3, and Canon’s host-based
UFR II drivers are summarized below. PCL
and PostScript produce comparable size
ripped jobs for text oriented file, but PS has
significant spikes for documents with more
graphical content — PowerPoint and
especially Publisher.

Interestingly, host-based UFR, which outputs a


GDI stream, generates a thinner PowerPoint
file than PostScript. UFR performs more
evenly (and predictably) than PS, but with
larger size jobs for text oriented Word and
Excel files.

PCL performs the best of all the drivers, losing


out to UFR only in the case of the Acrobat job.
