First of all, what do you know about plagiarism? How does it affect us in our
studies? Do we really need to prevent it? That is the topic I¶m going to discuss.

Now let¶s define plagiarism. The Oxford English Dictionary says it means x

x

  x (OED
1987).? Universities define plagiarism in their regulations to avoid misunderstanding
between the students and the lecturers. The word plagiarism is actually comes from a
Latin verb that means, ³to kidnap.´

Plagiarism is very serious and it can be grounds for failure in a course. On the other
hand, As a College student you are expected to have your own ideas because the progress
in your education the standards become higher.?To read information and to explain it in
your words. If you finish an assignment by copying the material (plagiarize), you are not
showing that you understand something in the syllables. The only thing u do is just repeat
what the textbook or material says. You are just show plagiarism to your lecturer, and the
only thing he/she will do is just fail your coursework!

Normally, a student is not?caught because of direct plagiarism but more often

plagiarizing by accident. Unfortunately, it is too easy to do this when you are carrying out
extensive or wide research because you will be making copious notes which may be
incorporating others ideals with your own in order to create a balanced argument and an
overview of other research done in the area of the topic you write. If this is carried out in
a rush, as an essay you did not allow enough time for or for some reason were interrupted
in your work, or over the period of time given by the lecturer, as with a thesis or
dissertation, then it is easy to make you forget where your ideas end and another¶s begin,
This is where accidental plagiarism can all too easily occur in among of the college
students.

Now we are going to talk about how to avoid plagiarism among students. I hardly
believe there are nobody has the intention to plagiarize. But somehow, mistakes still
happens. All this just because of the attend of the internet, where it became a very
popular source of information.

There are few ways to avoid it. First, you must always acknowledge all of yours
sources and citing them correctly. You can cite them in both way, the text and the
bibliography. Next, always put quotes in quotation marks and indent quotes of significant
length so they stand out from the rest of the text. This marks them as not your own words.

Besides, you must not leave your work until the last minute to finish it, in order to
avoid panic plagiarism. You may ask your lecturer for a marking or clarification if you
are unsure of your assignment.?rhere paraphrasing an individual always acknowledge
them as the source of the ideas.

If you have a student handbook, you can look for it for guidance regarding the
favored reference and citation conventions for your subject or topic area. The last method
is by paraphrase. Paraphrase mean using someone¶s ideas, but putting them in your own
words. This is probably the skill you will use most when incorporating sources into your
writing. Make sure you are not just rearranging or replacing any few words. Instead, read
all over what you want to paraphrase carefully; cover up the text with your hand, or close
the text so you can¶t see any of it. Then, write down the idea in mind with your own
words without peeking. After that, please check your paraphrase against the original text
to be sure you have not accidentally used the same phrases or words, and that the
information is accurate.

The second technique is the lecturer will try to hold a conference with the student
writer who been suspected and study the paper to compare the studentxs familiarity with
his/her owns paper and its concepts.

The third method might use by the lecturer is using detection tools. Viper
( plagiarism detector), iThenticate Plagiarism Checker, and many more. This is the fastest
way to detect a plagiarism. This method must be used by the trained people. These
software needs skilled people to master it.

rhen you are trying to detect the assignment, try removing the quotes and search
by the net. This will help to detect situations where the student copied a segment, but
made few minor changes. This method always return o big number of pages, but just the
first 8 pages or so likely to be the source. Try locate the similar sections then determine
how close they match!
