WINDOWS - GENERAL - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_____________________________________________
1. _______
General
Windows are installed in the aircraft cockpit and the cabin. The different
types and locations of the windows are:
- the cockpit windows (windshield, fixed and sliding side),
- the cabin windows,
- the cabin dummy windows,
- the passenger/crew door windows.

(2) Sliding Windows
(c) The windows are chemically strengthened and are resistant to hail
and bird-strike damage. Electrical heating elements give clear
vision in all conditions.
(d) The sliding side windows have a mechanism to open, close and to
lock them. The crew can use them as emergency exits.
B. Cabin Windows
R (1) Cabin windows are installed on both sides of the fuselage between the
R frames. The locations extend the length of the cabin.
(2) The window frames are made from forgings and are riveted to the
fuselage skin.
(4) A hole is included in the lower center of the inner pane. The hole
lets the pressure between the two-pane assembly stay the same as the
pressure in the cabin.
(5) A cabin window is installed in the top center of each emergency exit,
left and right.
R (1) Cabin dummy windows are made of aluminum installed in place of the
R cabin windows when necessary. They are installed in locations where
R furnishings or equipment block them (galleys, lavatories, stowages,
R etc.).
R (2) When you replace a cabin window assembly with a dummy window, use the
R same retainer ring, eye-bolts and nuts.

(3) Push the PARAMETER key (2) until parameter Ry is shown on the LCD
(4).
(4) Put the SURFACE TESTER (SJ201) in position on the window to make the
detector travel direction perpendicular to the scratch.
(6) Because the depth of the scratch can be different along its length,
measure the depth at a minimum of 3 locations along the scratch:
- at each end and in the middle of the scratch
- or more if it is a long scratch.
(7) Compare the largest depth value measured with the scratch depth limit
values given in the figure related to the scratch inspection
(Ref. TASK 56-11-11-200-001) or (Ref. TASK 56-11-12-200-001) or

(b) Do a check for burn spots.
(Ref. Fig. 608/TASK 56-11-12-991-013)
1
_ Put a light source at 45 deg. to the outer surface of the
window panel.
2
_ Do a check of the bus bar for burn spots.
1
_ Get a metal scale 150 mm (5.9 in.) long.
2
_ Put the metal scale perpendicular to the surface of the
R sliding window panel where you see the maximum depth of
R crazing.
3
_ Look at the scale reflection with an angle of vision of 45
deg. to find the apparent depth of the crazing damage.
4
_ The correct depth is approximately two times the apparent
depth.
R 5
_ Where the depth of crazing is minimum, a hand-held magnifying
R glass can be used as an optical aid.

R 4. _________
Operation
(Ref. Fig. 003)
A. Unlocking
- the operating lever is unlocked by pushing the pushbutton on the lever
- rotation of the lever towards the rear causes simultaneous rotation of
the aft bellcranks through the connecting rods.
This disengages the hooks from the locking pins which are fixed to the
structure.
B. Opening
- when the window is unlocked, the transversal guide roller, located at
the front, serves to disengage the window towards the inside of the
aircraft.
- the self-alignment of the bogies and the transversal guide roller in
the longitudinal rail enable the window to move towards the rear
- the rack holds the window in its fully or partially open position.
C. Closing
- action on the operating lever with the window in the open position
unlocks the window. This releases the rack.
- pushing forward on the lever gradually closes the window
- at the end of travel, the transversal guide roller brings the window
against the aircraft structure.
The hooks engage on the locking pins.
The operating lever is locked and prevents unwanted opening of the
window.
