Vocabulary Words:
Please know spelling and definitions
of the words below:
photosynthesis: the process plants use to make their
own food. Light energy is captured and used to
convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and
glucose. *You will be asked to describe this process.
xylem tubes: the system of tubes in a plant that
transports water and dissolved minerals. This begins
in the roots of the plant.
phloem tubes: the tissues in a plant responsible for
the transport of sugars.
absorbs: to take in or soak up.
stomata: microscopic pores on the leaf of a plant
that are responsible for the gas exchange.

This Week’s Objectives
Reading/Writing: We will continue the study of
inventors and their inventions, with a deep dive
into Garrett Morgan and the traffic signal, and
the Wright Brothers and the airplane. We will
continue to answer the unit question: How do
new and improved technologies meet societal
needs? When finished with this, we will begin an
informative essay based on our science unit.
Grammar: commas in a series
Math: We will continue our work with fractions
as we work our way through Module 3, and
begin Module 4 next week.
Science: We will continue our new science unit,
Web of Life, with a deep dive and study of food
webs, and systems.
Social Studies: Looking ahead, our next unit is
Colonial America – more to come after Winter
Break.
Health: Being Assertive-- Being assertive
means asking for what you want or need in a
calm, firm, respectful voice.
