INTRODUCTION

Solar energy is renewable energy. Renewable energy is energy whose source never runs out. We
can never use up the energy source completely. The energy from Sun in our personal timescale
never runs out. Solar system electricity or photovoltaic’s (PV) don’t need direct sunlight to
work. Even on a cloudy day, they can still generate electricity.

As we know, installing solar system in your own home costs a very high cost depends the size of
panel. In 2011, the international Energy Agency said that “the development of affordable,
inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies will have huge longer-term benefits. It will
increase countries energy security through reliance on an indigenous, inexhaustible and mostly
import independent resource, enhance sustainability, reduce pollution, lower the costs of
mitigating global warming and keep fossil fuel prices lower than otherwise. These advantages
are global. Hence the additional costs of the incentives for early deployment should be
considered learning investments.

By installing solar system in our homes we can help reduce the impact of greenhouses and
indirectly help reduce the electricity costs.
DEFINITION

Do you know what is Solar Energy? Solar energy is the energy obtained by capturing heat and
light from the Sun. energy from the sun is referred to as solar energy. Technology has provided
number of ways to utilize this abundant resource. It is considered a green technology because it
does not emit greenhouse gases. Solar energy is abundantly available and has been utilized since
long both as electricity and as a source of heat.

Solar technology can be broadly classified as,

 Active Solar – Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems,
concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy. Active solar is
directly consumed in activities such as drying clothes and warming of air.

 Passive Solar – Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun,
selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light dispersing properties and
designing spaces that naturally circulate air.
We can use that electricity to light up our homes, streets and businesses and power our machines
as well. The sun’s energy is in form of solar energy. Solar radiation makes the production of
solar electricity possible.

How does solar energy work? A photon is a basic unit that makes up all light. It is a bundle of
electromagnetic energy. When photons strike a solar cell, they loosen electrons from their atoms.
If we attach a conductor to cell’s negative and positive sides, we have an electrical circuit. When
the electrons flow through the circuit they generate electricity.
CHARACTERISTIC

The characteristic of solar energy is radiation from the sun capable of producing heat,
causing chemical or generating electricity. Second renewable energy is energy whose source
never runs out. The total amount of solar energy incident on Earth is vastly in excess of the
world’s current and anticipated energy requirements. If suitably harnessed, this highly diffused
source has the potential to satisfy all future energy needs. Third, in the 21st century solar energy
is expected to become increasingly attractive as a renewable energy source because of its
inexhaustible supply and its nonpolluting character, in stark contrast to the finite fossil fuels coal,
petroleum and natural gas.

The other characteristic is, photovoltaic power generation is a static operation with in moving
parts, longevity, no need or minimum maintenance.

Next, photovoltaic cells are a key component in solar power generation, so through research on
output characteristic is of far-reaching importance. The last one is, modular PV system, which
can be installed near electricity use, in areas far away from the grid can reduce transmission and
distribution costs, increasing the reliability of power supply facilities.
