LED TEA LIGHT SNOWFLAKE CROCHET

CENTREPIECE
INSPIRED AND ADAPTED FROM THE FREE PATTERN OF
THE SNOWCATCHER
by: Annabella Crochet

Isn't this snowflake just so pretty! I've been searching for the perfect one to transform
into a stunning Christmas centrepiece for the table this year.
Here I show you how to crochet the tea light cupping, even where to leave the ideal space
for an LED switch.
The pattern ends with the adaptations made for the Snowflake to fit just nicely around the
cupping, then there will be a link to the original pattern by the designer, Snowcatcher, so
you can finish the pattern there.
Okay, let's get started!

MATERIALS USED:
Moda Vera Gelato Cotton 4ply Yarn in Red, Green or White
3mm Hook
Darning Needle

STITCHES USED:
SS, CH, SC, INC SC, BLSC, FLSC, HDC, DC and TREBLE

THE TEA LIGHT CUPPING

(After Magic Circle, all stitches are worked in the round with SS and CH 1
to end each Round)

BASE
Round 1 - With 3mm Hook make 6SC into a Magic Ring, pull to close,

Round 2 - INC SC all around (12SC)

Round 3 - *INC SC, SC* all around (18SC)

Note: this next round is where there will be 2 stitches left unworked to
make the gap for the tea light switch. SEE PHOTOS ATTACHED.

Round 4 - *INC SC, SC, SC* once more, INC SC, CH 3, SK 2 stitches,
*INC SC, SC, SC* 2 more times. (22SC & CH3)
Round 5 - *INC SC, SC, SC, SC* once more, INC SC, SC,
3SC into CH 3 space, SK next SC, *INC SC, SC, SC, SC* once more,
INC SC, SC, SC. (30SC)

START OF CUPPING

Round 6 - Working in all back loops, SC all around. (30SC)

Rnds 7-10 SC all around (30SC)

Note: Instead of SS to finish in Round 10, I used the Invisible Join

technique for a really nice seamless rim.
Simply cut after last SC made, thread tail onto your darning needle
and go through the top of your beginning SC, from front through
to back to close at front.
To close back of work, bring your needle up to poke through the
centre of last SC. This method creates a lovely top stitch that
matches the rest of your SC's, voila!
Weave in both tails, particularly your 2nd one gently, to keep the
invisible join stitch looking even with the rest.

Julie has a great video to help guide you with this technique.

KINGS CROWN SNOWFLAKE - ADAPTATION TO FIRST 4 ROUNDS

Note: Now that your tealight cupping is done, you will be working
those Front Loops from Round 6 to start your Snowflake.
MAKE SURE YOUR CUPPING IS FACING YOU, MORE PHOTOS PROVIDED.

Round 1 - Join with any FL stitch and continue to INC from Round 6 with
*INC SC, SC, SC, SC, SC* 5 more times. (36SC)

Round 2 - CH 3, 2DC into same stitch as SS, *CH 6, SK 5, 3DC into next*
4 more times, ending with CH 2 then TREBLE into top of CH 3.
Round 3 - (CH 3, 1DC, CH 3, 2DC) all in same TR/CH 2 space, CH 6,
1SC into next 3DC, CH 6, *(2DC, CH 3, 2DC) in CH 6 space,
CH 6, 1SC into next 3DC, CH 6* 4 more times, SS to top of CH 3.

Round 4 - I will now leave the link to the Original Pattern of the
Snowcatcher called, Kings Crown Snowflake, so you can
continue finishing your Centerpiece!

Please follow ALL of Round 5 ONLY for this Round 4 to be completed.

You will be crocheting one snowflake petal at a time until 6 are made.
Once done, I recommend using a blocking method of your choice.
I used a lighter method with pins and ironing starch for mine.
