English is one of the most famous languages in the world.

It is the most common

language that a lot number of people use it for sharing their ideas, making friends
and many more. In this era of globalisation where people could communicate with
others globally, English becomes way more important, because it is used as an
international language. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Indonesian people have a
low level of English skill.. The education system and culture are the main reasons for
these unwanted problems. According to Education First English proficiency Index
(EPI), Indonesia is falling behind Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnamese in terms of
English skill competency within ASEAN countries (Yasmine, 2016).

Our education system only focuses on grammar and certain aspect without
considering how students could be able to apply it in reality. They are lacking of
opportunity to use their skill that they have learned. Whereas, the most important
things in learning English is how students are able to use and have the confidence to
apply their skill in writing, listening, reading and speaking in real life. Furthermore,
the mindset of our people who said that people who use English in their daily life do
not love their own language and are not nationalists. This mindset causes people to
be afraid to apply their English skills in social life. As a consequence, people tend to
avoid learning English.

There are several methods to learn English properly. One of them is imitation
technique. The imitation technique gives you the chance to be better at speaking
English, as if you become a native English speaker. Imitating a native speaker can
improve your English pronunciation and expression faster than any other method.
For example is by singing your favourite song. There are some benefits by learning
English through music such as improving your vocabulary as song lyrics are
sometimes full of slang words, colloquialism, and modern English expression that
would never be learned in class.

You can also pretend to be your favourite actor in a movie. Watching movies is a
great way for you to improve English, especially your listening and speaking skills.
Movies are not purposely made for English language learners, therefore the
language content can be materials for learners to expand their knowledge, as they
are quite a challenge. Movies provide the learners with real life language input,
which may be difficult to receive otherwise in a non English-speaking environment
(Sari, 2015). By imitating the words, stress, pauses, intonation, facial expressions
and gestures of native English speakers, you are teaching yourself to communicate
in the most natural way. Just like babies learn how to speak by imitating their
parents.

Learning a new language is tough and most people can agree that the best way to
learn a language is by having a language partner. They give you an opportunity to
learn English in a better way and that is by speaking the language. Having a
conversation partner is crucial in learning English verbally besides going to classes.
Classes often offer important material as a base to learn English but the material can
be developed through practicing with partner.

The key in learning English is to love it first. Develop passion for learning. If you do,
you will never cease to grow (Anthony J.D’Angelo). If we already have a passion for
English, new lessons will be easier to be remembered and understood. Passionate
learners are engaged learners. They always seek knowledge in their explorations in
English. When we are passionate about English, we will train hard and succeed.

In this sophisticated era, a revolution in technology provides various opportunities

for studies and education that are accessed by everyone all around the world which
make it super easy and simple to do. Ever since the technology has taken over all
things, education has completely changed and become massive. The development of
social networking has intrigued educators, instructors, and even teachers to seek
their potential use in education, because these technologies are believed to have the
capability to endorse active learning.

We as young generation are very aware of millennial trends. Learning conditions in

the classroom sometimes do not encourage teenagers to learn new things eagerly.
They prefer to get lost on mobile phones, listen to the latest music, and watch high
rating movies. By using technology in classroom, the young generations are paying a
new way to study. They also can explore and experience the world not only from
assignments and books.

Based on that problem, we plan to create a phone application that could help people
who want to improve their English skill and apply it in real life. We choose to create
an application because in this modern era, technology has been growing rapidly in
the past few years, including communication technology. Its massive growth causes
people’s tendency to rely on it. By creating an application, people could have easy
access to learn English.
