Interactive Whiteboard Lesson

For my interactive whiteboard lesson, I wanted to incorporate the children learning about the
body because I’m a physical education major. I chose to teach the digestive system which allows
the students to learn where their bodily organs are. I wanted the students to remember where
their organs are by going over them first with them and then getting them to match the names of
the organs to the blank spaces. After they had developed an understanding of where the organs
go in the body on the board I would get them to focus on their own bodies and see if they can
pick them out.

Working with the interactive whiteboard had its difficulties. The words were supposed to be able
to drag to the empty lines pointing at the body but the words did not move. Instead I had the
students write and draw lines to where they thought the word matched the organ. This turned out
to be fairly successful as they had more time to interact with the board and spend more time
thinking of what words go where as they could not see all the words. The children were very
responsive to the drawing lines. It gave them a chance to teach themselves how to use the
whiteboard as well.

The biggest strength of my lesson is the students realizing that the image on this whiteboard is
actually inside of them. They loved the fact that they could take the information that they have
learned and apply it to themselves personally. Another big strength is getting them to write on
the board. I think that was better than my original idea to just drag the words being they got to
work together to figure out how to label the organs. I felt the students gave me more of a reaction
when I got them to stand up and write what they thought matched with each part of the digestive
system.

My wording to the children needs to improve. I have a hard time talking to the children in a clear
and concise tone. I also have to develop a way to initially get the students attention instead of
just starting my lesson. If I taught this lesson again I would get a smart board that would be able
to drag the words so I could show them by dragging the words. Then after that I would get the
students to then draw the lines/words on where they believe they should go and see how they do.
After I feel they have mastered the digestive system then I would get them to drag the words just
to make sure they have a good grasp of the topic. Finally, I would teach the students where each
organ is on the body and get them to realize that their body is setup the same way as the diagram.
