“Passive Voice”

 Kalimat pasif adalah kalimat yang subyeknya dikenai pekerjaan atau tindakan
atau perbuatan.. Subyek dalam kalimat pasif berfungsi sebagai receiver atau penderita
sedangkan unsur obyeknya sebagai agent/doer atau pelaku. Tense dalam kalimat pasif
mengikuti Tense dalam kalimat aktif. Kalimat pasif memiliki pola umum sebagai
berikut:
To be + Verb-3 (past participle)

1. Present Simple dan Past Simple

1. Kata kerja-kata kerja berikut ini dapat dibuat bentuk pasif dalam konstruksi
kalimat khusus:
Acknowledge, assume, believe, claime, consider, estimate, feel, find, know,
presume, report, say, think, understand.
- It was reported that the robber was arrested by the policemen.
- It was said that he was jealous of her.
2. Kata kerja-kata kerja berikut ini dapat dibuat bentuk pasif dalam konstruksi
kalimat khusus:
Think, know, believe, understand, report, say, suppose
- He is thought to be living abroad.
- That man is believed as their hero in that village.
 Mengubah Kalimat Aktif menjadi Pasif
Mengubah kalimat dari aktif ke pasif dalam bahasa Inggris tidak turut
mengubah maknanya, tetapi mengalihkan penekanan dari subjek (pelaku
tindakan) kepada objek langsung (benda yang menerima tindakan). Untuk
mengubah kalimat ke bentuk pasif dalam bahasa Inggris, Anda perlu
menentukan tense kalimat terlebih dahulu karena penting untuk
menjaga tense yang tepat saat mengubah kalimat aktif menjadi pasif. Kedua,
identifikasi subjek, predikat, dan objek langsung kalimat. Terakhir, ubah format
sehingga kalimat dimulai dengan objek langsung dan berakhir dengan subjek.
