iGRAS Candidate

INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT SCHEME (iGRAS)

APPLICATIONS CRITERIA (S)

1) This scheme is open to international postgraduate candidates in Master (full

research) and Doctorate programme at the University of Malaya.

2) Must be registered at the University of Malaya for any of the Master (full research)
or Doctorate programme. This scheme is applicable for :

i. Master Programme – 3rd semester and below

ii. Doctorate Programme – 5th semester and below

3) Must not be sponsored by any Federal/State/Statutory Bodies or any other

organization.

4) Must be free from any debt / outstanding fees with the University of Malaya.

5) Successful applicants will not be required to undertake any teaching workload

6) Applicants must be working as Research Assistant in the University of Malaya

for projects funded under the following grant scheme:

I. Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS)

II. Exploratory Research Grant Scheme (ERGS)
III. Prototype Research Grant Scheme (PRGS)
IV. Long-term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS)
V. University of Malaya Research Grant Scheme (UMRG)*
VI. UMRG Flagship Program*
VII. Research Acculturation Collaborative Effort (RACE)*
VIII. Program Penyelidikan Rakan Universiti Malaya (PRPUM)*
IX. Bantuan Kecil Penyelidikan (BKP)*

IMPORTANT:

[* applicable only for new GRA (international) application]

(* For existing International RA/GRA, they must complete current tenure before
applying for iGRAS)
(this scheme is only applicable for RAs appointed under IPPP only)

7) The eligibility of iGRAS application must be adhere to minimum salary of Research

Assistant under iGRA grant as follows :

Research Assistant Master Degree RM 1,500.00

Doctorate

8) The maximum of iGRAS period as follows:

*Two (2) years / four (4) semester for Master programme

*Three (3) years / six (6) semester for PhD programme

*The period of candidature will be determined based on the initial registration of the
programme.
*Provided that the candidate is working in the project for which the grant is still ective within
the priod of tenure ship .
*The appointment as Research Assistant is still active within the period. (at least 4 months
within the semester)

9) Supervisor must have an active grant which is sufficient to fund the project that
the iGRA will be working on.

10) Applications should be forwarded in the following order through the Supervisor,
Head of the Project, Dean/Director and Dean of Institute of Graduate Studies.
Application must attach together with documents certified true copy as follows:

i) Student card
ii) Research Assistantship (RA) appointment letter
iii) Research Assistantship (RA) acceptance letter
iv) Report duty letter as Research Assistant
v) Master/Doctorate research proposal

11) Incomplete/fraud application/unfulfilled criteria will be automatically rejected.

Decision of the selection of candidate for this scheme is final.
 iGRAS Candidate

EXTENSION OF CANDIDATURE

Candidate may apply for extension of iGRAS candidature. However, the extension is subject
to the terms and conditions as follows :
1) Must be registered for the applied semester.

2) Candidature of Master / Doctorate programme must be active.

3) The appoinment period of Research Assistant must be at least four (4) months for
the applied semester.

4) Must not be sponsored by any Federal/State/Statutory Bodies or any other

organization.

5) Must be free from any debt / outstanding fees with the University of Malaya.

6) Must submit a progress report with proof of publications at the end of each
semester. A good progress report will be considered for extension. Fail to submit
progress report on time, the application of extension will be automatically rejected.

7) The extension of iGRAS candidature will be rejected if the candidate had reached
their maximum of iGRAS period.

8) Application of extension should be forwarded in the following order through the

Supervisor, Head of the Project, Dean/Director, and Dean of Institute of Graduate
Studies.

9) Decision of the extension of candidate for this scheme is final.

Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

1) The candidate must adhere to the terms and conditions of KPI Publications.

2) The candidate must show proof of two (2) publications of ISI journal within the
iGRAS candidature. The status of publications are as follows:

No Semester Status of publications

1. 1-3 Submission

2. 4-5 Accepted/Published

3) The extension of iGRAS will be not considered and the salary of RA will be held if the
candidate fail to provide proof of publications within the iGRAS candidature.
 iGRAS Candidate

The application and extension form must be completed and submitted with a certified copy of
Research Assistantship (RA) appointment letter and a certified copy of student card to :
