a) Introduction :

Attention getter
By a show of hands, who here supports the capital punishment? Who doesn’t support it? Killing
someone! Just the sound of this sentence tells us that it is wrong. Killing can never be right. So
how come we support killing people? How come we allow the state to kill people?
Audience Justification
When we use the capital punishment, we are following the criminals’ example by doing
something equally as bad ourselves. We are taking one life for another life.
Credibility
I am Friska from Institute for Criminal Justice Reform and I do a lot of research about capital
punishment.

Thesis Statement

without parole
b) Problem
Capital punishment is injustice, immoral and ineffective way to deterrent criminals

abolished it will prevent innocent people at-risk within the criminal justice system.
e) Conclusion
In conclusion, capital punishment should be banned because its injustice, its immorality, and
its ineffectiveness as a deterrent to crime replacing it with life in prison without ever having
the possibility of parole.
By a show of hands, who here supports the capital punishment? Who doesn’t support
it? Killing someone! Just the sound of this sentence tells us that it is wrong. Killing can never
be right. So how come we support killing people? How come we allow the state to kill people?
I think we can all agree that murderers and rapists are monsters and do not even deserve to live.
Upon first glance, capital punishment may seem like the fairest and most logical answer to
dealing with murderers. But, there is no moral basis for it. When we use the capital punishment,
we are following the criminals’ example by doing something equally as bad ourselves. We are
taking one life for another life. There is also a chance that a mistake will be made, and the
wrong person will be put to death. Is this type of revenge worth such a risk?
I am Friska from Institute for Criminal Justice Reform. After doing tons of research and
carefully considering both sides of the argument, I am convinced that the capital punishment
should be banned. My arguments will address the following issues relative to capital
punishment: the injustice of capital punishment, the immorality of capital punishment, and
capital punishment as a deterrent to crime. First of all, allow me to discuss the injustice of
capital punishment.
Evidence shows that capital punishment is a discriminatory means of punishment. Some
refer to capital punishment as the poor man’s justice. In many countries, judicial institutions
and law enforcement officers are so bad that defendants cannot get a fair process. Even in the
United States, one of the world's largest democracies, capital punishment is far more often
applied to the poor and ethnic minority citizens. Most of those sentenced to death are Afro-
American citizens. In the US and many other countries that still apply the capital punishment,
many reports of "evidence" are falsified or hidden by investigators, just to ensure that the
defendant is sentenced.
In addition to being discriminatory, capital punishment is also immoral. No matter how
you look at it, killing, and murder is always wrong! Taking someone's life, unless in defense
of our own, is immoral, no matter what the circumstances are. The Bible says,
“Thou shalt not kill.” The Bible does not say, “Thou shalt not kill except in cases of murder,
treason or capital crimes.” It simply says, “Thou shalt not kill.”
But there is yet a third issue that we must confront, and that is whether capital punishment
is an effective deterrent to crime. But in truth, statistics from CNN show that capital
punishment does not prevent or decrease crime. The data shows that there were 16 executions
in the Habibie-SBY era, with an average of 1.8 executions per year. Meanwhile, in the Jokowi-
JK era there were 18 executions so that the average per year was 3.6.
Based on those 3 reasons, we should banned capital punishment. So how do we punish
criminals? Capital punishment can be replaced with life term without parole. Capital
punishment is arguably a less harsh punishment than a life term without parole. It can be argued
that a person who knows that they have to spend the rest of their lives imprisoned is worse off
than a person who knows that they will be executed after a few years in prison. The
hopelessness of a life in prison could be worse than the knowledge of imminent death. Life
without parole will deter criminal and decrease criminal rates.
We may never know how many people have been wrongly executed. So if capital
punishment abolished it will prevent innocent people at-risk within the criminal justice system.
Not only that, we can prevent the immoral law. Everyone makes some mistake during their
