1.9 Deprecated features

The following features are deprecated and are no longer supported from
R10.03:

• FAST/TOOLS Trend Module

This refers to the stand-alone trend application and not the
component in the operator interface. The stand-alone application
was intended to bridge trend requirements from the previous
generation of HMI software. It uses the DSS interface for historical
access and is not consistent with the trend component. The module
is no longer accessible from the FAST/TOOLS start menu and will
be removed entirely in the next release.

• Web HMI Java applet

8 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Notes on installation Overall information

Running the Web HMI as a Java Applet is no longer supported.

Running Java within the browser is considered a security risk and
should be disabled. The link to the applet is now removed from the
Web HMI landing page and the feature will be removed completely
in the next release. Note this does not affect Web Start
functionality, which uses zero-deployment technology to run the
Java application on the client machines and not within the browser.
Customers using the Java Applet are advised to switch to using
Web Start for launching Web HMI applications. This has no
implications for existing displays.

• Media player component

ActiveX is no longer supported in Windows 10. The browser
component has been updated with a JavaFX embedded browser
component that in addition to improving the features for rendering
web pages also supports media files and streaming media.
The media player component remains for upgrade purposes, but
will be removed or replaced in a future release. Refer to the chapter
on USER/FAST for more information.

1.10 Notes on installation

This section covers general points relating to all tools, with regard to the
installation and running of the tools.

1.10.1 Installation of FAST/TOOLS on Windows

Since Windows Vista, Windows operating systems contain some secu-

rity features intended to protect the user from malware and to ensure that
system administration tasks are only performed by authorized personnel.
Windows calls this security component User Account Control (abbrevi-
ated to UAC). These features also have an impact on the way software
is installed and where runtime data can be written. These changes are de-
scribed in the following points:
• The FAST/TOOLS installation is spread across two locations. The
software executables, configuration setup files and source files are
located under the program files folder as is normally the case with
Windows operating systems. However since applications are no
longer allowed to write runtime data to their installation folder, and

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 9

Overall information Notes on installation

FAST/TOOLS creates files that need to be shared with all users on

the system, a new folder is used to store the runtime data files and
displays. This location can be found under:

%PUBLIC%\Yokogawa\tls

where “%PUBLIC%” normally defaults to

C:\Users\Public.

• Applications that require privileged operations ask the user for

confirmation to run. This is called a UAC prompt. FAST/TOOLS
performs privileged actions such as allocation of shared memory
which causes UAC prompts to be presented when the FAST/
TOOLS service is started or stopped manually. In addition
applications like the licence wizard and setup file editor need to be
able to write to the installation folder and will also present a UAC
prompt when started. This is normal behavior and the prompts
should be confirmed.
• Manual actions in the FAST/TOOLS environment should be done
with a command prompt using the “Run as administrator” option.
This is necessary because changes to configuration files take place
in the installation folder which is a privileged operation.
• For large scale engineering activities it may be easier just to switch
off UAC completely, though it is recommended to reactivate it after
system commissioning. Deactivating UAC can be performed as
follows:

- Enter “UAC” into the Windows menu search field.

- Select “Change User Account Control Settings” from the search
results.
- In the dialog that appears, drag the slider all the way to the
bottom to select “Never notify” and press OK.
- Confirm the UAC prompt.

1.10.2 Alternative installation options

The Windows installer now supports explicit settings to deal with

situations where FAST/TOOLS should be installed in a single folder
away from the C:\ drive, or when using alternative locations for item
history. Refer to the readme file located in the folder of the Windows
installer on the FAST/TOOLS installation media for more information
on using special keys to provide additional control during the

10 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Notes on installation Overall information

installation process.

Note: When installing FAST/TOOLS outside the system default

installation drive (usually “C:\”), correct resolving of environment
variables requires that these paths do not contain spaces. The installer
will prevent you from doing this during the installation process.

1.10.3 License request and authorization for Linux

The Linux platform now comes with license request and license
validation wizards. License requests van now be made by running the
“jtoolslicreq” command from the command line directly from Linux,
without requiring a Window PC. Similarly “jtoolslic” can be run from
the command line which will launch a graphical license validation
wizard. Note that it is still possible to request licenses using the
Windows based request wizard and to validate licenses from the
command line using “ft_validate”.

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 11

General Introduction

2 General

2.1 Introduction
This chapter gives an overview of new features as well as bug fixes,
known bugs and product documentation errata not specific to a particu-
lar tool.

2.2 Functional improvements

2.2.1 Advanced Operator Graphics (AOG) library

USER/FAST comes equipped with a new library of standard symbols

and associated components for creating operator displays that meet the
ANSI/ISA-101 standard for HMI. These principles have been used to
create a new library for FAST/TOOLS containing static and dynamic
symbols and display templates that conform to this style.
The purpose of this standard is to improve operator efficiency and
situational awareness. Focus is created by applying colors and other
visual cues on what is important in the current process situation. It is also
intended to provide as much information about the process at a glance,
rather than relying on the operator to translate multiple raw process
values into meaningful information. This reduces cognitive overload
and reduces the likelihood of operator errors, to provide a safer
environment overall.
In addition to the software library, the product document also includes a
new “Getting Started” manual describing how to engineer operator
displays following the same style and principles as provided by the
library, including the ability to overrule certain settings if the project so
requires, and how to create new symbols that follow the same style.

2.2.2 OPC UA Server

Yokogawa FAST/TOOLS was once of the first products worldwide to

provide an OPC Foundation certified OPC UA client. This release sees

12 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Functional improvements General

the introduction of the OPC UA server to allow third party clients to

access FAST/TOOLS item, alarm and historical data. FAST/TOOLS
items are presented to clients following the same hierarchical structure
as the engineering tree, providing an information model containing a
variety of runtime and definition related properties. Please refer to the
chapter on ACCESS/FAST for more information.

2.2.3 Table component

A new component is provided for presenting and maintaining DSS

records in a tabular format. Traditionally the operator will use item,
alarm and history data in schematic process displays. This feature easily
allows information to be presented in a tabular format without having to
draw components for specific items or properties, and increases the
types of information that can be provided to the operator, such as audit
trail or project specific data set information. Properties that can be set on
the table include which data set to use, the fields to be shown, which
filter to apply and operations allowed on the data set. A variety of styling
options are also available to control layout, colors and header and footer
labels.

2.2.4 Objects-in-objects in the engineering tree

It is now possible to define objects logically below other objects from

within the engineering tree of the Engineering Module. This allows a
logical hierarchy of objects to be built-up using composition from
independent classes, rather than defining the strict relationships from
within the class definition itself. The Engineering Module will take of
maintaining consistency in this composition, by for example turning
deleted parent objects into sections in case these objects still have
children. This feature is also supported by quickload, allowing object
hierarchies and unit-based engineering configurations to be generated
autonomously.

2.2.5 Extended single-sign on support

Active Directory has been supported since R10.02 for servers and client
workstations. However other client applications particularly those
relying on a browser such as Web Start and the HTML5 interface were
not supported. These client applications connect to the same web server

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 13

General Functional improvements

but use different technologies that do not provide direct access to Active
Directory.
SPNEGO is a standard method for user authentication for web servers,
which extends support for Active Directory single sign-on to browser
environments, and other applications. Using SPENGO provides a single,
common authentication method in the web server and simplifies the
maintainability in supporting various client types, as well as
extensibility for future client developments.

2.2.6 HTML5 enhancement

The HTML5 interface has been redesigned with performance and

maintainability in mind. Rather than saving displays and symbols in
HTML5 as a monolithic entity, the component architecture follows the
same pattern as the Java components, with a re-usable and extensible
library containing the HTML5 equivalents of each of the supported
display components. Furthermore display layouts are now incorporated
directly when the graphics are saved and no longer require a separate
conversion phase. The server-side has been rewritten to provide a
message bus for obtaining FAST/TOOLS data and extended to provide
better support for error notifications.
The HTML5 feature tries to reflect the Java components as best as
possible in a browser environment. However due to differences between
Java and HTML technologies it is not possible to provide like-for-like
equivalents in all cases. As a result there are limitation to what the
interface can provide and what components are supported. Please refer
to the USER/FAST Editor User Manual for how to use the HTML5
capabilities and its supported feature set.
Note: The HTML5 function has been
restructured and updated, but is not
officially supported in R10.03. This
function will be supported in the next
service pack.

2.2.7 Secure Host-Host communications

BUS/FAST provides facilities for communicating between different

nodes in a FAST/TOOLS system. This feature has been enhanced for
this release by providing secure communications between Host-Host
server environments using public/private key technology. Information

14 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Functional improvements General

on how to use this feature can be found in the BUS/FAST System

Integrator’s Manual.

2.2.8 Enterprise Engineering support for Linux

This feature was introduced in R10.02 for Windows platforms, to

support common engineering configurations across multiple FAST/
TOOLS projects and multi-tier organizations. With this release it is
possible to use Enterprise Engineering in heterogeneous environments
using both Windows and Linux server environments.

2.2.9 DCS FTExchange improvements

DCS FTExchange has been updated to remove inconsistencies in

faceplates and tuning panels for all supported function types.
Furthermore it has been adapted to make better use of the FAST/TOOLS
sections and information hierarchy capabilities when generating object
and tag definitions in FAST/TOOLS. Instead of a flat structure for all
data items in a tag, tags are now grouped into sections to provide a better
overview and faster location of a tag and its associated properties. The
object instance of a function block is now included in the section name,
with the associated data items found within it. Note that this has a side-
effect that the alarm item in a function block is always shown as
“ALRM” in the tag field of the alarm overview. The section field should
be used to see to which function block instance the data item belongs.

2.2.10 Remote database copy performance and

stability improvements

Performance and stability fixes have been applied to the remote database
copy interface (RDBC) of ACCESS/FAST so that up to 5000 data set
records and time-stamped item updates per second can be generated.

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 15

General Known bugs

2.2.12 Native 64-bit application

Modern operating systems releases have supported 64-bit applications

for some years. As of release R10.03, FAST/TOOLS is now built as a
native 64-bit application. This removes certain restrictions such as the
ability to address more than 3.5GB of memory and prepares the suite for
future expansion.
Some portions of FAST/TOOLS remain 32-bit because of the
dependency on third party libraries and frameworks and these are listed
below:
• ODBC interface
• Yokogawa VNet equipment manager
• Mitsubishi MELSEC equipment manager
• OPC DA Client
• OPC DA Server
• OPC AE Client
• OPC AE Server

2.3 Known bugs

• Windows Server 2016 can fail to update the list of program files
from the start menu immediately after installation. Please restart
Windows Server 2016 after FAST/TOOLS installation to complete
updating of the start menu.

• When running FAST/TOOLS interactively from the command line

on Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016, make sure you start the
command window with the “Run as administrator” option to ensure
the correct access rights at start-up.

• The use of custom fonts in combination with FAST/TOOLS can

lead to visual side-effects in the Engineering and Edit modules.

• Items and objects in the connection dialog of the Edit Module are
shown in strict alphabetical order in the selection dialogs of the
operator interface. This is inconsistent with the order shown in the
tree in the engineering module which always shows the section
names before items and objects.

16 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Product documentation errata General

• The Nullsoft installer used FAST/TOOLS has a limitation to the

maximum length allowed for strings. Fields longer 2048 characters
will be truncated. This can cause issues if the system %PATH%
environment variable is already very long, which is often the case
for Yokogawa engineers when multiple products are installed. If
you are not installing FAST/TOOLS on a clean system then it is
advisable to take the following steps prior to installation:

- Open System Properties->Advanced Settings and select the

button “Environment variables”
- Select “Path” from the list of System variables and click
“Edit...”
- Copy the entire contents of the path string and place it in a text
editor such as Notepad.
- Install FAST/TOOLS
- Open the properties for the “Path” environment variable again
and prefix the saved path string to the new string. The installer
should only add the new paths for the “tls” environment so take
care to remove any overlapping paths in the new complete
string.
- Click OK to save your changes.

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 17

ACCESS/FAST Introduction

3 ACCESS/FAST

3.1 Introduction
This chapter gives a description of new features, bug fixes, known bugs
and product documentation errata that apply to the tool ACCESS/FAST.

3.2 Functional improvements

3.2.1 OPC UA Server

Yokogawa FAST/TOOLS was once of the first products worldwide to

provide an OPC Foundation certified OPC UA client. This commitment
to OPC UA is further enhanced with the introduction of OPC UA server
functionality for FAST/TOOLS. The server exposes FAST/TOOLS
items and their properties in the form of a structured information model,
using both standard OPC Foundation data types and discoverable
custom types. The OPC UA Server supports not only the ability to read
and write attributes (equivalent in functionality to OPC classic DA), but
also to generate alarm and condition events (A&C) including support for
client defined filters, as well as time series historical data (HDA) for
item values. Please refer to the ACCESS/FAST System Integrator’s
Manual for more information.

3.2.2 OPC A&E simple event support

The FAST/TOOLS OPC A&E client now provides support for simple
and tracking events. These can be selected as an option in the OPC AE
station definition and events arriving through this interface will generate
non-item based (INFO) events in the chronological alarm overview. It is
also possible to filter events based on the OPC event category number.

Bug fixes and minor modifications ACCESS/FAST

3.2.3 Remote database copy

Performance and stability fixes have been applied to the remote database
copy interface (RDBC) of ACCESS/FAST. The interface can now insert
up to 5000 data set records and time-stamped item updates per second
and up to 10,000 item updates excluding time-stamps.
The file-based buffering mechanism has been removed due to
performance issues and is replaced with a queuing mechanism to avoid
racing-conditions.

3.5 Known bugs

• OPC classic interfaces
When using the OPC classic interfaces for client and server on
Windows 2012 Server, it is advised to install the .NET 3.5
framework to be compatible with OPC components. You will
require the original Windows installation media for updating new
packages. For example, to install the .NET Framework 3.5 from
installation media located in the F:\sources\sxs directory, use the
following command from an admin command prompt:

DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 / All /Limi-

tAccess /Source:f:\sources\sxs

In addition you will need to re-run the OPC Core Components Redistrib-
utable located in %TLS_EXE_PATH%

• Classic OPC AE clients always need to specify a source name. For

items defined in the root and are not contained in a section (only
consist of a tag name), there is no corresponding source name. As
a result an item defined in the root (e.g. “ABC”) is shown in the
OPC clients preceded by a period (e.g. “.ABC”).
It is possible that some clients cannot correctly handle these items
as alarm sources. When using the FAST/TOOLS OPC AE server,
it is advised to have visible alarm sources always contains within a
section.

20 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Product documentation errata ACCESS/FAST

• Remote database copy will delay at least ten seconds before new
records written by FAST/TOOLS are available, in case the remote
database application reads the remote tables at the same time they
are being updated.

• The interval for item history updates in the remote database copy
can sometimes differ from the value set in the engineering module.
It is advised to use the “item values” exposure and periodic update
interval instead.

• Using the remote database copy to expose time-stamped data, such

as periodic item updates or time-based data sets such as
chronological alarms will create new records for each event. There
is currently no mechanism for limiting the size of the exposed
tables or removing records online. The table should be manually
cleaned of old records at regular intervals, by using an SQLite
management tool (such as the SQLite manager add-on for Firefox).
Stop ACCESS/FAST and open the “\tls\sav\dbcd_out.db” file with
the management tool. Select the relevant table and remove any old
records that have already been transferred to the remote system.
Then start ACCESS/FAST again.

• OPC UA Server redundancy

OPC UA client will not automatically fail-over to a redundant OPC
UA server. This is an OPC UA toolkit issue which will be solved in
the next release.

3.6 Product documentation errata

None.

4.3 Bug fixes and minor modifications

4.3.1 Changed default alarm in memory/disk settings

for ALH

The default settings for ALH have been changed so that are all events
are stored to disk. The MEM-WRT keyword is now not active by
default. This aids in bringing the alarm overview up to date after a
system restart or switch-over of a redundant server, by having the last
known item status available on disk.

4.4 Updates

ALARM/FAST.
• Update: 1002.0014-i11742
Correct copy of alm_evt in module alhi_cur_his of ALH.

4.5 Known bugs

• Alarm shelving does not support restriction of shelving of OPC AE
related items based on status or type. OPC AE does not use FAST/
TOOLS alarm limits so it is not possible to define any restriction to
alarm states.
• Alarm shelving does not recover correctly from queue overflows on
the DURM communication line when trying to shelve more than
500 alarms. In case of connection loss between a HMI station and
a server it is advised to restart the shelf overview.
• Alarm shelving is currently not part of the Schemes feature of
FAST/TOOLS and these fields are always visible in the
Engineering Module.
• The alarm group functions, including the old-style alarm events and
ARRAY keywords have been removed and are no longer supported
for alarm destinations. Alarm groups are deprecated and replaced

REPORT/FAST Introduction

13 REPORT/FAST

13.1 Introduction
This chapter gives a description of bug fixes, known bugs and product
documentation errata that apply to the tool REPORT/FAST.

13.2 Functional improvements

13.2.1 Report prompts

REPORT/FAST now supports metadata features that are used to make

the prompts of ad-hoc reports more user friendly for common types of
user input. The metadata is provided as a keyword in braces at the start
of the prompt definition (@P0-@P7) when defining the prompt ques-
tions for a report. Using this metadata will cause a control to be dis-
played when entering input data for the report instead of a text field. The
following types of controls are supported:

• ITEM
Provides a tree selector for navigating and selecting an item. A
filter can also be supplied to limit the selection tree to a specific set
of items.
• OBJECT
Provides a selection box for selecting an object. The class to which
the object should belong can be passed as a filter.
• DATE
Presents a calendar control for entering a date. The GMT time for
the first second of the selected date will be passed as UTC integer
value to the report
• TIME
Presents a time selector control for selecting a time. The GMT time
will be passed as UTC integer value to the report.

Please refer to the REPORT/FAST Language Manual and the USER/

FAST User Manual for more information.

USER/FAST Introduction

14 USER/FAST

14.1 Introduction
This chapter gives a description of bug fixes, known bugs and product
documentation errata that apply to the tool USER/FAST.

14.2 Functional improvements

14.2.1 Advanced Operator Graphics (AOG) library

The new Advanced Operator Graphics library adheres to the principles

described in the ANSI/ISA-101 standard for HMI, to improve
situational awareness and reduce cognitive load on operators. A new
library of symbols and a set of template displays allows project
engineers to create displays that adhere to these principles. In addition
the Advanced Operator Graphics Getting Started manual aids the
engineer in creating their own symbols, or changing the defaults in the
library’s symbols and classes according to customer requirements.
In order to support the High Performance HMI functions, some new
components have been added to the graphical editor:
• Radial chart
Shows a set of data points as a radar chart. This is particularly
useful for representing the relation between a set of KPI values. The
chart supports between 3 and 10 pens and fill options based on the
limits of the trend pen items.
• Data bar
Shows the position of a the value graphically as a bar within a set
of defined ranges.
• Micro trend
Presents a small trend graph along with the current value, allowing
an operator to get a feel at a glance for the direction in which the
value is travelling. The component supports up to 4 pens and
configurable history fetch and displayed time period.
Please read the Advanced Operator Graphics Getting Started Manual for
more information.

50 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Functional improvements USER/FAST

14.2.2 Table Component

This new component allows records from data sets to be presented to the
operator in a tabular format, providing the operator with access to more
types of FAST/TOOLS data, including time series data such as audit
trail and message logging, as well as application specific custom data
sets. The component supports full DSS filtering to define which set of
records and fields from a data set should be visible. The component can
be configured to be read-only or support update and insert functionality,
provided the user has these rights on the data set. The table can be
formatted in a variety of appearance and coloring options, supports
headers and footers and can be set to update dynamically on data set
changes. In addition the fields of a selected record in the table are
available as parameters to other components, allowing linking of records
with other tables using key values and controlling properties of other
components.
For more information on the table component please refer to the USER/
FAST Editor User Manual.

14.2.3 Object-in-Object

The tree in the engineering module now supports the ability to create
objects hierarchically nested within other objects. This is particularly
useful when modelling a plant and its units using composition, rather
than defining fixed parent/child class relationship in the class code itself.
The parent and child objects are loosely coupled and do not share any
properties other than their hierarchy. The parent class acts as a
“container” for other objects in the tree, to the extent that if a parent
object is deleted it will automatically be turned into a section to protect
the referential integrity of underlying objects. Item created by these
objects will be created and can be addressed under their parent object in
the usual way.

14.2.4 Extended single-sign on support (SPNEGO)

Single sign-on support in FAST/TOOLS is further extended in this

release to support non Web-HMI components. The SPNEGO protocol
facilitates local user authentication from the web browser to the web
server, allowing features such as Web Start components, the Excel add-
in and HTML5 interface which rely on the browser technology to

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 51

USER/FAST Functional improvements

support single sign-on environments using Active Directory.

Note that the method for mapping the Active Directory user group to
FAST/TOOLS roles has been changed for R10.03. This release uses the
new user profile field “Directory group” to manage the mapping
between Active Directory group definitions and FAST/TOOLS roles,
which removes the 32 character AD group name restriction.
Instructions for setting Active Directory for FAST/TOOLS can be found
in the USER/FAST User Manual.

14.2.5 EES enhancements and Linux support

Enterprise Engineering was introduced for the Windows platform with

R10.02. Red Hat Linux support was added in R10.02 SP1 and is now
available in R10.03. In addition the enterprise run-time item
synchronization now supports sharing of alarm indications between
enterprise servers.

14.2.6 HTML5

This release introduces improvements to the feature of saving displays

created using the Edit module in HTML5. The architecture has been
redesigned to follow the same pattern as the Java components, using a
library containing functionality and markup for each component type, a
new data bus between the FAST/TOOLS data sources and browser
runtime as well as support for pop-up displays, display parameters and
operator error message handling.
Note that this feature is intended for lightweight operation applications
and mobile environments and does not provide a 100% conversion from
the Java based displays and symbols. Please refer to the USER/FAST
Editor User Manual for more information and list of supported features
and properties.

14.2.7 JavaScript scripting function

The graphical editor now comes equipped with a scripting function

component. This allows scripting to be used within the HMI client
instance to perform calculations and control component properties. The
scripting component is based on the Nashorn JavaScript engine of the
Oracle Java Virtual Machine, and allows JavaScript to be used to

52 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Functional improvements USER/FAST

transform a defined set of input parameters into a set of output types.

Scripts are scheduled to evaluate input values and generate outputs at
fixed intervals and given a limited time to run to prevent processor
hogging and performance degradation. Please refer to the USER/FAST
Editor User Manual for more information on the scripting component.

14.2.8 Process area filter for item search

The item search utility now supports a process area filter. In the set-up
file jhmiset.sup it is now possible to specify that only items that are
present in the logged-in user’s process areas are shown in result sets.
This feature can be used to limit returned results to a user’s area of
responsibility, without having to enter additional filter expressions.

14.2.9 ActiveX Browser and Media player

component updates

As of Windows 10, ActiveX components are no longer supported. Both

the media player and browser components relied on ActiveX
technology. To compensate for this the browser component has now
been updated to a JavaFX based control. As well as removing the
ActiveX dependency, the new browser component has a much richer
feature set based on the WebKit engine used by some modern browsers.
It supports Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, media playback,
and HTML5 tags, that were not supported by the old component.
For the media player component there is no direct replacement.
However the rich functionality of the browser component supports
media playback which allows this also to be used for playing video and
audio files and streams. It is advised to use the browser component for
playing video, audio files and streams. The browser supports AAC,
MP3, MP4 H.264/AVC and Flash Video (VP6/MP3) media types.

server WFLADI. This allows events that use this event type such as
Foundation Fieldbus events to be visible in the historical overview of the
operator interface without additional configuration.

14.3.2 Item priority

As part of the support for High-Performance HMI displays, the USER/

USER/FAST Known bugs and limitations

14.5.2 Limitations of Web HMI

• There is a known issue in Java when reading data over network

connections that may cause starting the Operator Interface via Web
Start to fail initially. There is no fix for this other than to retry, or to
clear the Java cache as a workaround. To do this, proceed as
follows:
- Open the Java control panel on the client machine.
- In the section “Temporary internet files”, press the “Settings...”
button and then the “Delete files...” button to clear all files from
the cache.
- Try again to open the operator interface from Web Start.
• Single sign-on functions support Active Directory only and are
therefore only supported on Windows platforms.
• The table component has no “undo” feature in case the component
is used for data set operations other than reading.
• The auto-login option of USER/FAST is supported for applications
running on a server or Web HMI server only. By design it is not
supported when used in combination with Java Web Start for
security reasons.
• Java generates an “Application blocked” message when the .JNLP
file is accessed over HTTPS. This error message is misleading
because the HTTPS certificate of the web server is self-signed and
it is NOT because the application itself is self-signed.
Solve this one of two ways: either install a valid certificate for the
web browser based on its IP address from a CA or Windows
domain server, or add https://localhost:8443 to the exception list of
trusted sites within the browser. Note the second method is
potentially dangerous since if a malicious application hijacks the
same URL then HTTPS security will be circumvented.
• When entering displays names remotely through the Web HMI
interface, display names are case sensitive. This is normal behavior
for remote file access through a web enabled interface.
• For projects that require customer Java components these
component must be submitted to Yokogawa for digital signing
before it can be used. Contact Yokogawa for details when
considering building your own Java components.
• In an enterprise trend, a tag name can be the same when data is
accessed from different servers, but there is currently no way to see
from which server the tag is coming from, either in the legend or
the pen source.
• Trying to drag a frame out of the Engineering Module causes the
cursor to change to different icons.

66 FAST/TOOLS Release Notes

Known bugs and limitations USER/FAST

• When using the item properties editor for a symbol in the Edit
module, the font size of the “Value” field is not calculated properly
making it difficult to enter new values.
• When using the “Update item/parameter” action from the
“Attributes” sheet, the first change does not effect. As a
workaround, repeat the operation or use the Actions sheet to set
item/parameter actions instead.
• When a display contains a symbol with a custom property that
coincides with the name of a fixed property of a component (for
example custom property “Format” for a symbol), an error message
is shown about a duplicate entry in case both properties are
selected. Avoid using custom property names with the same name
as an existing property.
• After selecting 'Open display' from the Action combo box of an
event, a duplicate event is added to the component. This additional
event should removed manually.
• Function components should be drawn within the visual area of a
display or symbol and not outside the drawing area. Also they
should not be grouped. Failure to do so will result in incorrect
alignment of components when the display is activated.
• Labels using the same font size can show rounding issues and be
rendered in slightly different font sizes. This is particularly
noticeable when labels are drawn below each other in a list. This is
an issue with anti-aliasing in Java. As a workaround consider using
the “Apply text smoothing” option in the web-HMI web server
setup file or set the zoom level of the display to a non-integer value
(e.g. 99.999% instead of 100%).

14.5.3 Limitations of HTML5

The HTML5 feature provides a user interface aimed at mobile devices

and lightweight HMI functions using a browser. The limitations of the
functionality, including which components and which properties are
supported is included the USER/FAST Edit Manual.
In addition the following known limitations exist:
• AOG components are currently not supported by the HTML5
interface.
• There is no equivalent for the trend component in this release. This
will be addressed in a future service pack.
• Unlike the POI, the currently logged in user is not displayed in the
status bar

• The borderStyle:line property of a Frame in the Layouts.xml file is

not rendered correctly in all cases. The following border style
mappings are applicable:

- Bevel raised

• When a rendered page is zoomed from within Windows the page is

not drawn correctly. Zooming back to 100% will repair this. The
zoom factor should be set to 100%, which you can find the default
zoom factor under Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items ->
Display. If the default Windows scaling is “Medium - 125%” then
this must be set to “Smaller - 100%”. In general it is considered
good practice to create displays according to the target form factor
to avoid the use of zooming.
• Rotation properties are not supported for the alarm overview and
shelved alarm overview components. In general, please refer to the
USER/FAST Editor User Manual to see the limitations of HTML5
components.
• Transparency properties have no effect.
• Margin property has no effect.
• Column filters are not supported for alarm and shelved alarm
overviews.

14.6 Product documentation errata

• USER/FAST Trending Manual
Although the trend application is no longer provided with FAST/
TOOLS, the manual describing it remains, since the behavior of the
trend component in a display is practically identical. The
documentation text has been updated to reflect this change, but
some screen shots still make reference to the trend application.

Introduction Upgrading to FAST/TOOLS R10.03

15 Upgrading to FAST/TOOLS
R10.03

15.1 Introduction
This chapter describes how to upgrade an existing FAST/TOOLS
R10.02 system to FAST/TOOLS version R10.03. Upgrade is supported
for R10.02 with or without service packs SP1, SP2 or SP3 installed.

15.2 Before you install FAST/TOOLS...

15.2.1 Backup first!

Before you do anything else, first backup your existing FAST/TOOLS

system. A backup of the entire FAST/TOOLS environment must be
made. Note that you must stop your FAST/TOOLS system before mak-
ing the backup.

15.2.2 FAST/TOOLS R10.03 Licensing

The FAST/TOOLS R10.03 release requires new licence numbers.

Please contact your FAST/TOOLS supplier to obtain a new set of li-
cence numbers.
Note: It is important to use the same node name
and node number when upgrading an
existing project to FAST/TOOLS R10.03
In case of systems containing a separate Web-HMI server or Web-HMI
workstation, always disconnect the Web-HMI components and upgrade
the server components first, before upgrading the Web-HMI
components.

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 69

Upgrading to FAST/TOOLS R10.03 Before you install FAST/TOOLS...

15.2.3 Upgrade procedure

The steps provided in this section should be performed in the described

order to upgrade a FAST/TOOLS R10.02 system to FAST/TOOLS
R10.03. When it comes to the actual installation of the new release, de-
tails about the installation of the FAST/TOOLS product can be found in
the FAST/TOOLS Installation Manual.

Note: Do not uninstall the previous FAST/

TOOLS release when upgrading. Instead
install the new release over the previous
release.

1 The setup files located in %TLS_ROOT_PATH%\tls\sup must be

preserved and later merged with the FAST/TOOLS R10.03 setup
files. Make a separate copy or the one from the backup is readily
available.
In case of a Web HMI server or workstation, make a backup of the
%TLS_ALLUSERS_PATH%\tls\wap folder too.

2 For a distributed FAST/TOOLS system make sure that the current

FAST/TOOLS R10.02 environment is consistent:

-Perform a database consistency check using the command

“dsschk”.
If problems are reported then repair them using the command
“dsschk –r”.
-Check the internal consistency with the command “dsschk –e”.
If problems are reported then fix them with the command
“dsschk –e –r”.

3 Stop FAST/TOOLS.

4 Delete all the files located on %TLS_SAV_PATH% that start with

“eqp” and end with “_main.sav”, “_main.d01”, “_main.k01”,
“_item.sav”, “_item.d01” or “_item.k01”.
Do the same for files that start with “opx” and end with “.sav”, “.d01”
or “.k01”.

5 Install FAST/TOOLS R10.03 on top of FAST/TOOLS R10.02. Do

not uninstall first. When installation is complete do not start FAST/

TOOLS immediately!

6 When installation is complete start the setup file editor and open the
file "nse.sup". Check the option “Duplicate file names allowed”.

7 Start FAST/TOOLS.

8 Issue the command “dsschk –e –r” three times to perform an

extended data set check and cope with forward references

9 Make any setup file modifications by merging the new setup files
with the backup versions from the project.

10 Complete any other project specific actions such as data set

modifications and custom scripts. Consider the following points:

- The default settings for the FAST/TOOLS service will be reset to

Manual/Local SYSTEM account. Please set this to Automatic as
and to the FAST/TOOLS service account as appropriate for your
project.

15.2.4 Additional remarks

The following points concern various differences and effects that may
need to be dealt with after upgrading to FAST/TOOLS R10.03:

• The Active Directory broker mapping schema is changed and an

upgrade utility is provided. Only in case of upgrading from R10.02
to R10.03 you should run this upgrade tool manually once to update
this mapping. To do this open a command prompt, navigate to the
FAST/TOOLS tls\exe folder and execute the command:

adb_u1003.exe.

• ActiveX is no longer supported in Windows 10. The browser

component has now been upgraded and is suitable for both
rendering of web pages and playing multimedia files. If you are
using these components in your displays, please verify that your

FAST/TOOLS Release Notes 71

Upgrading to FAST/TOOLS R10.03 Before you install FAST/TOOLS...

web pages are rendered correctly and in case of the media player
component, switch to using the new browser component instead.

• The installer now supports explicit settings to deal with situations

where FAST/TOOLS has been installed in a single folder away
from the C:\ drive, or when using alternative locations for item
history. Refer to the readme file located in the folder of the
Windows installer on the FAST/TOOLS installation media for
more information.

• In R10.02 when the priority of a history group of collection/storage

type “Aggregation” is the same or higher than other history groups,
then this can have the effect that no values can be read. This issue
is repaired in R10.03 but can be an issue in case of upgrading from
R10.02. To fix this issue the ITH recover command must be run for
each item history group of collection/storage type “Aggregation”.
To do this open a command prompt, navigate to the FAST/TOOLS
tls\his folder and execute the following command for each
aggregation history group:

ithrecover <group name>

• Displays created with FAST/TOOLS R10.02 are compatible with

FAST/TOOLS R10.03

• Report definitions from older projects that refer to the old fixed
installation and units instead of sections will still operate correctly
since the installation and unit data sets are maintained for
compatibility and represent the first and second levels in the
