Wesleyan University-Philippines - Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) undergoes Regional Annual

Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI) conducted by the Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) of
the Philippine Army at WU-P Open Field last April 29.

Col. Ferdinand B. Lacadin CAV (MNSA) PA graced the event with his presence in behalf of Col. Enrico T.
Yuzon GSC (RES) PA as a guest of honor and speaker.

The RAATI is an annual activity which involves actual inspection of the ROTC units in the implementation
of the overall ROTC program.

According to Joe Nier Chiva, a Private First Class, the said activity is more of evaluation rather than a
competition of ROTC unit of all universities in the region. Although the result of inspection needs to be
rank school after school, the main reason why it is held is to test the quality of training attained by the
ROTC Cadets and Cadettes for the whole school year.

The inspection includes three categories such as Administrative, Tactical and Military. Under
administrative aspect is the overall inspection of office organization and management, that is basically
done to test the unit's degree of administrative efficiency. While in tactical aspect, there is a drill test that
comprises of ceremonial parade, rank inspection and company drill, and a theoretical examination that
involves comprehensive exam and practical exercises. This inspection aims to know the unit's level of
proficiency. And in military stake, it includes activities such as Military Courtesy and Discipline, Assembly
and Disassembly of M16 Rifle and Cal. 45 pistol, Map Reading, Disaster Response and Rescue Operations
and the Small Unit Tactics which intends to test the operational readiness of the ROTC units and allow the
cadets and cadettes to experience the real meaning of basic soldiery.

As a result, the ROTC Unit of the college garnered a total rating of 93.01% for their overall performance,
which is lower than the previous year. According to Roland Joshua Paraiso, a cadet officer, the decline is
due to the particular activities that gained a high point from last year but earned a lower point this year,
and vice versa.

There are 165 enrollees of ROTC. Thus, Paraiso wants to encourage all the students to join the organization
or to get involve in military trainings. According to him, it’s important for everyone to be well-aware of
what’s happening in our country and to be prepared for the unexpected things that about to happen.

"Tayo rin po kase ang kawawa kapag wala tayong alam" he said, referring to the war that may occur
between Philippines and the other country.

Moreover, aside from the knowledge and training that students or young people could possibly learn from
ROTC, it would also help them to develop their so-called self-discipline.

Importantly, military training teaches every trainee three m's: makisama, makibagay and makiramdam.
