ABSTRACT
This survey based research report define the opinions and response of students and other members
of the university against the behaviour of the administrative staff. This report is produced by
conducting questionnaire and interviews from students and other members of the university
including 5 male and 5 female. The literature review how the students deal by the administration
of the university whether the behaviour of administrative staff is cooperative or rude towards the
students and other members of the university. It describe that what are the basic reasons due to
which the behaviour of administration is rude towards the students. It also describe that how the
administration can avoid rude behaviour and what kind of behaviour they should have with the
students.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
In a university good behaviour of administrative staff can contribute positively to creating a
productive and harmonious environment in which students can be inspired and achieve their full
potential However, when behaviour is rude or dysfunctional it can have serious consequences on
productivity. Administrative staff of the university have a duty of care towards the student and all
other members of the university. The upper management is responsible to prevent and minimize
the rude behaviour of staff which may affect the harmony and discourage the students. The
administration of the university is there to resolve the problems of the students. Administrative
staff required to focus on the situation, issue, and the problem of the student not the person, his
colour, age, gender, language and nationality. Upper management have a responsibility to take
action against rude behaviour. There will be a responsible person who inform upper management
about the rude behaviour of the administrative staff.
The administration of any university responsible to help the students and resolve their problems
regarding academics examinations or financial issues it is the duty of administration to treat the
students respectfully and professionally the administration must have to create a climate where
students are able to share their ideas. Administration of university are expected to practice and
model ethical and professional behaviour in all aspects of their work. It is expected from
administration to deal with students respectfully, ethically, honestly, professionally, lawfully,
impartially, fairly, responsibly and lawfully. Rude behaviour will be unacceptable and will not be
tolerated at university. It is strictly prohibited to treat the student on the basis of colour, race, age,
gender, nationality, religion, disability, as well as other classifications. VC or Rector have a
responsibility to take action in relation to rude behaviour.
RUDE BEHAIOUR
Behaviour which would be considered rude includes the following.
 using of abusive or offensive language
 abusive or Aggressive behaviour
 threatening language or action
 insulting someone
 behaviour which may discourage the student
 unreasonable criticism
 Offensive gestures
 Malicious gossips
 Unwelcome physical gestures
 providing incorrect information
 Bullying
 screaming
 Undermining someone

1.2 RESEARCH QUESTION
What are the basic reasons of rude behaviour of administration?

1.3 OBJECTIVE
 To find out whether the behaviour of administrative staff is cooperative, normal, or rude.
 If their behaviour is rude then what are the basic reasons of their rude behaviour.
 To get views from students that what type of behaviour of the administrative staff should
have.

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE
This report relates the behaviour of administrative staff towards all the members of the University
community such as (students, visitors and other members of the university). This report elaborates
on the opinion of the members of the university especially the students and visitors to find whether
the behaviour of the administrative staff is cooperative or rude. The report will assist the
administrative staff to recognise workplace behaviour and to take action against rude behaviour

In the theses paper managing school behaviour: a qualitative case study, the author describe that
“To what extent do administrators have access to behaviour data that inform their decisions and
how we can improve student success in school and society? To what extent do administrators use

current efforts to improve students’ success in school and society?” (Dodge, P amela R.,

In a research article by Jariah Masood (University Putra Malaysia) it is described that what kind
of financial problems students faced in a university and how they deal by the administration
administration. By knowing what problems students encounter, it is possible for educators to offer
a course that teaches the financial skills necessary to overcome these problems. (Jariah Masood
January 2004)
The workplace behaviour statement describe that University governing body should describe code
of conduct for the behaviour of administrative staff. It explain the options to avoid rude behaviour
“All members of the University community have a duty of care to each other and must comply at
all times with the Code. The University aims to prevent and minimise behaviour which may
adversely affect the harmony of the workplace and/or cause harm or injury to others.” (Workplace
behaviour statement university of Sydney)

(Quantitative and qualitative Approach, Tools, Data collection and sample)
By considering the need, nature and objectives of this research project, survey research method
has been used to verify the views of students about the behavioural issues among university
administration. Survey research methodology is adopted to get the information about the point of
view and thinking of students about administration.
3.1 POPULATION
Population is the students of National University of modern languages Islamabad (NUML).
Student from different departments of NUML Islamabad.
3.2 SAMPLE
Questionnaire is used to collect data. Ten questions are used in the questionnaire included eight
closed ended question and two open ended question. The number of students who filled this
questionnaire was ten in numbers included male and female students.
3.3 TOOLS
Interviews were conducted from students of different departments of the university.MS word and
MS excel are used for writing text, designing charts, tables, graphs, and composing the report
questionnaires were used as a basic tools for this survey based research report.
3.4 DATA REPRESENTSTION
As the questionnaire contain both closed ended and open ended questions. The quantitative
analysis of the results of closed ended questions is presented in numerical percentages, tables and
graphs. The qualitative analysis of results of open ended questions is presented in descriptive form.

Table 3.1 and 3.2 depicts the age and gender of respondents for this survey.

The main findings of this survey based research are as follows.

The responses regarding the question do you visit university administration? 50% student
responses often and 50% student response sometimes. The response against the choice “never” is
0 percent. By analysing these answers we can say that most of the student visit administration.

The responses regarding the question for what purpose you visit administration? 70% students
answer for academic 20% for examination 10% for financial purpose. By analysing these answers
of the students we can say that most of the students visit administration for academic purposes.
But the students also visit administration for financial, examination, purposes depend upon their
issues.

For the question what was the behaviour of administrative staff? 60% students replied rude 40 %
students replied normal and the response against the choice cooperative is zero so its mean that the
behaviour of administrative staff is almost rude with many students.

replied sometimes 20% students replied often and 10% students replied never. By analysing
these answers we can say that the administration of the university is sometime cooperative and
non-cooperative with students often.

For the question do you think that the administrative staff of your university is gender biased?
50% students replied never 30% students replied always 20% students replied sometimes. By
analysing these answers we can say that all administration is not gender biased but from the
answer always which is 30% and sometimes which is 20% we can say that some of the
administrative staff is gender biased not all of them.

For the question do you think that reference of some known personality is important for
resolving your administrative issues? Most of the student’s response always and thirty percent
students answered never so by analysing these answers of the students we conclude that the
administrative of the university is reference biased and without approach the administrative staff
cannot resolve the problems of the students.

intentional/personal? Fifty percent students replied always twenty percent replied sometimes and
thirty percent replied never by analysing these answers of the students we concluded that the
rude behaviour of the administrative is intentional/personal because most of the students think
that the rude behaviour of administration is intentional/personal.

For the question what is the reason of rude behaviour of administrative staff? Thirty percent
student replied due to burden of work, thirty percent students replied that due to laziness but
thirty percent students also replied that it may be due to other reasons. So the response of the
students is different against this question so we can conclude that the reason of rude behaviour of
administration is sometimes due to burden of work and sometime due to laziness.

4.2 QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS


Two open ended questions asked from the students that what you think that what kind of
behaviour they should have with the students? In response to this question most of the people
view that the administration should be cooperative with students because students needs their
cooperation. If they don’t resolve their problems it would be a great trouble for them. They must
fulfil the needs of the students. They must have to provide a right guidance to the students and
should resolve their problems. They should be cooperative because they are there for the help and
support of the students. First of all they have to welcome students respectfully and then asked from
the students how I can help you? And lesson the issue of the students and should try to resolve the
issue of the student. They should have to behave with students in a good manner and friendly. The
other question was about getting opinion of the people that do you think due to rude behaviour
of many administration, students prefer to avoid their interaction? In response to this open
ended question the collective view of the students with rude behaviour people surely want to stay
at a distance. Due to their rude behaviour students surely would prefer to avoid their interaction.
Due to rude behaviour of administrative staff students hesitate and they feel shock and become
disappointment therefore they prefer to avoid their interaction.

(CONCLUSION)

It is concluded from the survey that the behaviour of administration is rude. They are not
cooperative with the students and they are don’t interested to resolve the problems of the students
regarding academic, examination, financial, or some other issues. Some of the administration is
also gender biased. The main problem regarding to administration, they are reference biased and
therefore the students who don’t have any reference of some known person they don’t able to
resolve their problems in this way they lost their right. The rude behaviour of the administration is
due to just of laziness nothing else. Due to the rude behaviour of administration students prefer to
avoid their interaction.
(Recommendation)
The following recommendations are made in the light of findings and conclusion of the report.
 The behaviour of the administration will be cooperative towards the students.
 The administrative staff should be unbiased in term of gender discrimination.
 It is strictly prohibited to treat the student on the basis of colour, race, age, gender,
nationality, religion, disability, as well as other classifications.
 Rector and DG of the university have a responsibility to take action in relation to rude
behaviour such action may include disciplinary action.
