TRANSIENT INN

​ transient inn is a​ safe, comforting and a peaceful shelter for the visitors​ of 
A
Mysore which includes foreigners and other tourists coming in for various reasons. It also 
includes ​a recreational block and other spaces​ ​which is also ​open​ to the ​public​, that 
integrates the foreigners and the localities. 
 
 
INTRODUCTION 
 
Mysore which is very famous for yoga, brings in number of foreigners from 24 
different countries, namely, france, china, germany, etc.to get trained in yoga. They have 
3 different course period, offering 1 year, 6 months and 1 month courses. Where some 
come in individually and some with family. It's a need to provide them with a comfortable 
and safe space, which may positively impact the localities, as well as the foreigners at a 
large extent. 
Mysore being a tourist destination provides a number of tourist spots that attracts a 
lot of tourists every year, including large number of student tourists. 
 
 
NEED FOR THE PROJECT 
 
Issues faced by the foreigners, 
Female foreigners being misused, molested, etc. 
Charging double or sometimes triple the normal charges, 
Security and comfort, 
Privacy being disturbed,etc 
Food and other requirements being fulfilled 
 
Issues faced by locatities, 
Their privacy being disturbed, 
Foreigners coming in with illegal visas and setting up their own business or 
involving in illegal activities.  
   
 
 
SITE 
 
● The project is a Transient inn in ​12.5 acres​ at ​GOKULAM, MYSORE. 
● This can be a project proposed to the Government, for the promotion of tourism, 
foreigners coming in and making mysore a real yoga capital and a proper platform for the 
local people and craftsmen. 
 
 
 
 

WHY GOKULAM  
 
● Gokulam is the spot where the yoga centres are more, and foreigners stay presently. 
● But then not a centre spot for tourists. But then it is considerably silent and peaceful than 
the tourist spots. 
Here, foreigners are given more preference as they stay here for a longer period of time so, to 
make their daily life easier. But not to compromise on tourists, because Mysore is a small city and 
every tourist spots are not more than 10 km.

AIM IS TO DESIGN, 
 
● For tourists a “destination stay”,  
● “A far-away home” for foreigners, 
● A space to promote and introduce local crafts and agriculture to tourists 
● A recreation space for the localities and tourists.  
● And mainly a platform for the integration of foreigners and localities. 

OBJECTIVES 

● A  vernacular  and  interactive  spaces  for  tourists  who  visit  Mysore  for  less  than  4 
days. A resort set-up which is enhanced with water bodies and green spaces. With 
recreational facilities. 
● For foreigners who stay there for more than a month to train yoga- “A homely feel” 
by  providing individual houses and hostels which is of vernacular style, interactive, 
peaceful  and  affordable  space  with  all  needed  amenities.  With  all  the  facilities 
needed for all age groups. 
● A  recreational  space,  with  both  indoor  and  outdoor  games,  where  even  localites 
are allowed.  
● A  multi  use  hall  for  localites  and  tourists.  Where  different  activities  and  occasions 
take  place,  and  the  space  can  adopt  itself  for  each.  Where  both  localities  and 
tourists can access accordingly. 
● A  bazaar  stretch  where  the  local  craftsmen  and  farmers  can  exhibit  their  works 
and  products.  Thus  creating  a  platform  for  the  localites  and  tourists  to  interact. 
Therefore  localites  can  promote  their  products, and for tourists, they can buy their 
trusted products. 
● Bazaar  space  has  a  common  park  and  a  relaxing  space  with  seating,  where 
people can have some good time. 
● A  restro-bar,  which  is  an  upcoming  trend  in  Mysore,  where  the  users  can  have  a 
good,  leisure  time.  Which  works  9am  to  12am.  By  making  this  space  quite 
happening. 
● Attached  to  this  is  a  pet  space,  where  people  are  allowed  to  pet  the  domestic 
animals and making the space more lively. 
● Ultimately  the  space  brings  in  all  the  tourists,  foreigners  and  the  localities  in 
one space. Where each contributes to the other. 

 
 
 

SCOPE, 
Scope is to design a space soothing to the tourists from different parts of the world, fulfilling 
all their needs in one space. The space zoned into 3 zones so that each set of users get their 
own privacy, and also that the users don't interrupt others' privacy. Each zone is content with its 
own amenities. This makes the space more inviting for the tourists. Thus contributing to the

● Exploring the vernacular style and local building materials of Mysore. 
● To create a home space for foreigners, a decent and peaceful space for tourists, where 
each will have their own privacy. 
● MAIN FOCUS WILL BE ON THE 3 PILLARS, “​ FOREIGNERS, INDIAN TOURISTS AND 
LOCATITIES​”.

● The project does not caters about structural details.

RIVER FRONT DEVELOPMENT  

TUNGA RIVER- SHIVAMOGGA 

 
Karnataka is well known for its natural resources, but in the name of development 
and urbanization, the natural resources are being destroyed. By considering the development in 
a positive way, the river side can be developed as a recreational space with socio cultural 
background which benefits in maintaining the ecosystem of the river passing through the city and 
riverside development.  

INTRODUCTION 
● Most of the rivers IN KARNATAKA are used as a pilgrimage place where many of the 
rituals are taken place, which is causing damage to the river water.  
● The study of this thesis topic is an exercise of developing the green spaces for the city. 
So that the people get to know about the importance of nature and conserve the lake and 
natural ecosystem from vanishing, pollution.  
● The riverfront have potential to become the cultural and heritage hubs of the city,and 
attract people from the city and also tourists to spend time. Thus river side have emerged 
as the lively urban core of the cities. 

NEED AND JUSTIFICATION:  

● The project emphasizes on improving the surrounding of the river while considering the 
culture, economic and social aspect​ as a fundamental process.   
● It will also contribute a multi-disciplinary approach while incorporating the complexity of 
the biogeography, social and economic problem.  
● Increase the local employment, conservation of biodiversity also increases health 
condition of surrounding people and increase the living standard of the people.  
● Also the availability of such a vast unused riverside land can be developed wisely. 
 
 

AIM: 
● “GLOBAL ECO TOURIST DESTINATION” 
● The main aim of the project is to protect the ecosystem of the site and surrounding.   
● To create the awareness about the culture of the city and natural resource.   
● As shivamogga is well known for its tourism, which is also known as gate way of malnad, 
the economy developed from this can be used for maintenance of the it and other 
supporting means.   
● Response to climate and energy consumption through eco design. 

OBJECTIVE:  
● The project is proposed to promote improvement of overall environmental condition of 
the city along the side of Tunga river within or part of the city.   
● Because of the availability of the river water and also moisture along the river side also 
helps in the development of the park for the maintenance of the ecosystem and tourism.   
● The main objective of the project is​ to provide the local employment and conservation 
of river biodiversity.  

SCOPE:   
 
 

The idea is to target the tourist for the economic development of the city. The success of the 
project can help in the development of the other recreational space in the city. The river side 
along with parks, recreational facilities, marketing spaces etc. possess wide range of scope. The 
project itself, initiate the people to develop the awareness about the natural resource.
