Some Mistakes in the worship of Qurban

A great favor because on this day we are on a glorious day, the day of Nahr yaumun nahr (the day of
slaughtering of the qurban) and the yaumul Hajj al Akbar, the day where, at this time the "people" who
go to mekkah throw a jumrah 'aqabah after yesterday, "wukuf" in the fields of Arafat and mabit in
Muzdalifah.

Allah gives us so many favors, including healthy, long life, opportunities to worship, and also the blessings
of faith and Islam, the greatest blessings of Allah Ta'ala. Because of this great favor, we are commanded
to give thanks to Allah on a glorious day by dhikr and takbir. For Eid ul-Fitr, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
mentions,

And you should suffice the numbers and you should glorify Allah for His instructions given to you, so that
you give thanks. "(Surat al-Baqarah: 185)

For takbir since the beginning of Dhulhijjah mentioned

and celebrate the name of Allah during the appointed days ((QS. Al Hajj: 28).

So, the day of Eid al-Adha is used as a time for dhikr for people who go on Hajj. In the hadist mention:

Indeed, tawaaf in the Kaaba, performing sa'i between Safa and Marwah and throwing
"jumrah" is part of dhikrullah (dhikr of Allah). (HR. Abu Daud, no. 1888; Tirmidzi, no. 902;
Ahmad, 6: 46. Imam Tirmidzi said this hadits is hasan shahih)
Also in worship of Qurban is mentioned in the hadith,

The Prophet sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam once sacrificed (on Eid al-Adha) with two fat goats.
I saw him stepping on his feet at the base of the necks of the two goats. Then he read
bismillah and takbir, then he slaughtered his two qurban animals with his own hands.
"(Narrated by Bukhari, no. 5558, from the hadith of Anas bin Malik)
But one thing that must be remembered about the worship of qurban is that we should do it
sincerely/ikhlash only for Alloh, the goal is to achieve piety. In the Qur'an it is mentioned,

Neither their flesh, nor their blood, ever reaches Allah. What reaches Him is the
righteousness/ taqwa from you (QS. Al-Hajj: 37).

It should also be done according to the guidance of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.
Please consider the following story of a person who eats breakfast before the Eid al-Adha
prayer with his sacrificial animals.

Abu Burdah who is the uncle of Al Bara’ bin ‘Azib from his mother's path said,

"O Messenger of Allah, I have slaughtered my goat before the Eid al-Adha prayer. I know that
today is a day for eating and drinking. I'm happy if my goat is the first animal to be
slaughtered at my house. Therefore, I slaughtered it and I had breakfast with it before I
prayed Eid al-Adha. "

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam also said,

"Your goat is just an ordinary goat (which the meat is eaten, not a sacrificial goat)." (HR.
Bukhari, no. 955).

Look, his intention is good, but because it is done not according to the guidance of the Prophet,
the qurban is considered to be just ordinary meat, not meat of qurban. That means we have
to do good deeds but according to guidance, not just sincere/ikhash.

Therefore, it is appropriate that in this khotbah, we, as the khotib, reminded us of the
mistakes that often occur when performing worship of qurban.

First: Proud and arrogant in the qurban

Let us sacrifice with sincere intentions to reach Allah's pleasure, not to pursue social strata,
do not want to seek human praise, not want "sum'ah" and riya’.

‘Atha’ bin Yasar once asked Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari about the sacrifice carried out at the time of
the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam,
"How was the sacrifice at the time of the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam? It was said
that there was a person who sacrificed with one goat for himself and his family, he ate from
qurban and he gave alms (to the poor, pen.). But at that time people were proud of one
another as you see it. "(Narrated by Tirmidhi, no. 1505, shohih according to Shaykh Al-Albani).

If they were arrogant in the past, what about now? So, this ibadah Need real intention/ ikhas
in our sacrifice.

Second: Sodaqah is considered more important than sacrifice

This assumption is wrong.

Ibnul Qayyim rahimahullah said, "The slaughter carried out in a noble time is more important
than sodaqah as much as the slaughter. (value or size)

Therefore, if someone does sodaqah to replace the obligation of slaughtering during the rituals
of tamattu 'and qiran, even with sodaqah which has multiple values, it certainly cannot equal
its superiority) (See Talkhish Kitab Ahkam Al-Udhiyyah wa Adz-Dzakaah, page. 11-12)

Why is qurban more important than sodaqah even though it is the same size? The reason is
because of the problem of worship conducted at the noble time ( idul adha). Just like after
prayer is more important for dhikr than reading the Qur'an.

Third: Sacrifice is considered only once in a lifetime

In fact, every time we see the new moon of Dhulhijjah (beginning of the month of Dhulhijjah),
we are expected to have the desire to sacrifice. In the hadith mentioned,

"If you enter the month of Dhul-Hijah and one of you wants to slaughter the qurban, then let
him not cut the slightest of his hair and nails." (HR. Muslim no. 1977, from Umm Salamah).

Those who are capable, keep sacrifice. Imam Shafi'i who considers the qurban law to be
sunnah, He states,

َ
"I do not give relief to leave the sacrifice for those who can fulfill it."

So who can afford every year to sacrifice, set aside wealth to sacrifice. We hope that this
person's fortune will continue to be blessed.

Fourth: Too much consideration for spending money to sacrifice

In fact, the qurban is presented sincerely to Allah who gives sustenance to us all.
Remember what Allah promised,

Anything you spend, He will replace it. He is the Best of providers." (QS. Saba ': 39).

Why are we afraid to sacrifice the qurban while the qurban includes sodaqah which makes
our wealth more blessing. It is mentioned in the hadith,

َ ‫ن‬
"Sadaqah does not reduce wealth." (HR. Muslim, no. 2558)

We are also instructed to keep on being sodaqah when we are in good health even though we
are afraid of being poor. In the Hadith Abu Hurairah mentioned about the most rewarding
sodaqah,

"O Messenger of Allah, which charity is the greater reward?" He replied, "You give charity
while you are still healthy, when you are afraid to be poor, and when you wish to become rich.
And do not delay the sodaqah, until when your life has reached the throat, you just say, "For
this person as much as this and fthis person as much as this, and the property has become

fulan property." (Muttafaqun 'alaih. HR. Bukhari, no. 1419 ; Muslim, no. 1032) .
Fifth (last): Selling qurban meat

Because this sacrifice is a dish for Allah,

"Verily my prayer, my qurb, my life and my death are only for Allah, the Rabb of the worlds."
(Surat al-An'am: 162)

Therefore according to jumhur (majority) scholars including Shafi'i schools, qurban meat
should not be traded at all, including leather. Why? Because everything is for Lillahi Ta'ala.

From Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu ‘anhu, the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam said,

"Whoever sells leather from the sacrifice of qurban, then there is no sacrifice for him." (HR.
Al-Hakim. Shaykh Al-Albani says that this hadith is hasan. See Sahih At-Targhib wa At-Tarhib,
no. 1088)

But the meat of the sacrificial qurban (not nadzar) can be eaten by shahibul qurban (even if
only one bite), some of it may be used for sodaqah, partly given to someone who is able. It
is mentioned in the Qur'an,

So eat from it, and feed the unfortunate poor (QS. Al-Hajj: 28)

One more thing that should not be done is to give payment in the form of qurban meat to the
butchers. That may be, the payment is taken from his own pocket, from the committee's
pocket, or from the mosque's treasury.

Ali ibn Abi Talib radhiyallahu ‘anhu once stated,

"The Prophet sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam ordered me to take care of his camel qurban. I
offered the flesh, the skin, and the veil (the skin that was put on the camel's back to protect
it from the cold). I did not give anything from the sacrifice of the sacrifice to the butcher. He
said,

We will pay the butcher for our own money. "(HR. Muslim, no. 1317)

May Allah keep us away from the mistakes above during the sacrifice. may our worship be
accepted in the sight of Allah.

Let us close this Eid al-Adha sermon with prayer. Hopefully with this blessed day, every prayer
we are allowed by Allah.
