1 SCOPE
This method statement describes the step by step procedure for application of SikaBit® PRO P 30-0 Sand
as bituminous membrane waterproofing.
2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Sikabit® PRO P 30-0 SAND is AN APP MODIFIED modified, bituminous, torch-applied, waterproofing
membrane. It is reinforced with a dimensionally stable non-woven polyester inlay. The underside has a thin
polyethylene burn-off film for easy application. It can be applied to wood, metal and concrete substrates
including over existing bitumen roofing membranes.
USES
Waterproofing membrane for:
Damp proofing of the exterior walls of basements against percolating water and damp soil
Flat roofs under protective layers or ballast
Balconies and terraces under tiles
Wet areas
Protection of various substrates in a wide range of applications
CHARACTERISTICS/ ADVANTAGES
Good water tightness
Good elongation and cold flexibility
Good mechanical properties (tensile, tear, shear)
Good resistance to impact
Easy to install by torching method
Choice of primers to suit substrate and weather conditions
3 APPLICATION

3.2 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
3.2.1. Surface Condition
The surface to be waterproofed must be completely dry, as smooth and flat as possible, and free from
foreign bodies or loose material, rough parts, residues, vegetation, etc. Any work necessary to fill crevices
or to create the ideal slope to drain off rainwater should be done with Sika MonoTop® Series. There must
be no sharp corners between vertical surfaces and horizontal surfaces; corners must be rounded off or
smoothed, according to the particular case, either with cement mortar or with special triangular or
trapezoid extruded metal or bitumen ‘tape’.
3.2.2. Priming
After having prepared and cleaned the surfaces as described above, a preferably
water based or solvent-based bitumen primer needs to be applied as an anti dust-
off treatment, either with a long-handled brush, roller or spray. The primer improves
the bonding of the membrane on the substrate. The coverage rate will depend on
the porosity of the surface (approx. 0.25 lites/m2 ). Allow the primer to dry. Please
note that for indoor applications only solvent-free primers should be applied. Do not
apply the primer in wet weather or under direct sunlight. Metal substrates need to
be treated with an anti-rust treatment before adding the bitumen primer. On
wooden substrates joints have to be treated with strips of membranes which get
nailed.

3.3.2. Arrangement of the Layers
Design of sheet overlaps:
Where a multilayer waterproofing system is to be laid, the
layers above the first one are always fully bonded to the
layer below, laying sheets in the same direction, but
staggering them to cover the joints in the previous layer,
to avoid puddling.
Membranes can be laid parallel or vertical to the
slope. On slopes > 3° (5%) they should always be
laid in direction to the slope.
The end laps should be at least 15 cm, the side
laps at least 8 cm.
Single layer waterproofing systems or mineral
slated finished membranes should even have end
and side overlaps of 10 cm.
The membranes of the second layer should be
arranged in parallel offset (in frontal & lateral
direction) to the ones of the first layer and must
be fully bonded among each other.

3.5 SAFETY
Ensure sufficient ventilation during application.
Keep away open light including welding.
Wear proper safety equipment (gloves, eye goggles) during application.
For information and advice on the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemical products, users
should refer to the most recent Material Safety Data Sheet containing physical, ecological,
toxicological and other safety-related data.
4 IMPORTANT NOTES
Substructure: Must be clean, even, dry and firm.
Primer: Acts as dust binding and adhesion promoter.
Fire protection regulations must be fulfilled.
Roof waterproofing have to have a slope of minimum 3%.
Drainage channels need a sufficient slope.
Through expansion joints separated roof surfaces must be drain aged apart.
Expansion joints must be visible on the support/base.

Insulation and vapor barrier are relevant parts of the moisture proofing and thermal protection of the
building/construction and need to be considered by the planer.
Planer has to think about: slope, load, selection of the right materials, type of installation,
maintenance.
Do application only if weather conditions and substrate are completely dry.
