Ahmed contributes to group activities

Child/Tama: Ahmed. Teachers/Kaiako: Jane. Date: 15 December/ Hakihea 2019

You have enjoyed our term theme about

relationships. You joined in the activity of
gluing your family into your house, with the
other children. I gave you each figure and said:
That’s Mama, that’s you, that’s your brother
and your sister. You looked at me and asked:
Baba? Baba? Of course , he is part of your
family, too. I gave you the green Baba and you
glued him into your house. You were
interested in the different looks of the families
of the other children compared to yours. Some
were bigger. Some were smaller. Some had
only girls and some had only boys.
Subhanallah.
At mat time I asked who would like to share
something about their family. You were very
eager. You stood beside me in front of the
other tamariki and told us: Baba in jannah. May
Allah accept his shahadah, Ahmed, and
reunite you all with him in jannah.

Another mat time we learned the following

beautiful hadith about our mothers: Abu Hurairah
(May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A
person came to the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬and
asked, "Who among people is most deserving of
my fine treatment?" He (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Your mother".
He again asked, ''Who next?" "Your mother", the
Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬replied again. He asked, "Who
next?" He (the Prophet (‫ ))ﷺ‬said again, "Your
mother." He again asked, "Then who?"
Thereupon he (‫ )ﷺ‬said," Then your father."
After we heard that hadith we decided to make a
collage of our mothers and that is yours in the
photo. T Maryam asked you to tell her about your
Mum and you said: ‫ماما بتروح عالمدرسة وبتعمل أكل وبتنام‬
‫( وبدي أنام مع ماما‬Mama goes to school and makes
food and sleeps and I want to sleep with Mama.)
It’s so comforting sleeping close to Mama, isn’t
it? We hung all the collages from the ceiling and
you were proud to see your beautiful Mum up there with all the other mothers. 3 Dec 19
As well as being part of your family, you are also part of our pre school community. You have
made friends with the tamariki and you join in and contribute to activities. You play and learn
together with the children and your kaiako. Nearly all of the tamariki did a painting of
themselves at childcare. There were a lot of children at
the painting table. T Maryam encouraged you to say: Can
I have a turn, please? You repeated the phrase and the
children made room for you. You made this interesting
blue and yellow boy. He ataahua to pikitia - Your picture
is beautiful. You wanted to paint more, but other children
were waiting for a turn. Thank you for being responsible
and letting them have a turn. Later it wasn’t busy and you
were able to come and paint some more. I asked you to
tell me what you like about childcare. You said: The car.
The water. I play the sand. 5 Dec 19.

Water play is irresistible, isn’t it, Ahmed? I have lots of

photos from different days of you joining in water play. On
this warm day I squirted some shaving cream in the
water. You and the other children were intrigued by the
feel of it and how you could make it disappear into the
water. A child asked: What’s that? I said that
it is shaving cream. What’s that? You asked.
I said that maybe some of the fathers use it
on their faces before they shave and I mimed
putting some on my face. You saw Abdi
putting some on his cheeks and you copied
him. It was very funny. Kei te kata koe - you
are laughing. 3 Dec 19.

T Naema could see you wanted

to join in at the water trough. She
modelled the phrase: Can I help,
please? You repeated it. Thank
you for helping to clean our
outdoor toys, Ahmed. That is
really responsible. We want the toys to be clean when we pack them away for the holiday. I
like the way you are setting a good example by wearing a sunhat. 12 Dec 19

It’s special when Susan comes from City libraries and reads stories from books to us. She
always has some interactive stories on her laptop as well. This time she brought her friend
Veronica with her. In the stories there were questions to wonder about, moments of suspense
and surprise and funny things too. We love stories and I love how invested you were in the
stories, Ahmed. 28 Nov 19
What learning has occurred?
Your learning pathway for Term 4 is ways of contributing to groups and group well being as
you play and learn. ِAhmed, you are gaining in responsibility and patience. You have learned
about fairness. We work together and share resources; you always get a turn and so does
everyone else. You are invested in your play and learning. You share information and ideas
with your kaiako and the other children. You are setting a good example for the other children
with your enthusiasm and by the way you help take care of the centre toys. You have learned
that when you ask, your needs will be met.

Next Steps....from previous month

You’ve made a great start to preschool, Ahmed. He Hararei nui - Have a wonderful holiday
and we look forward to seeing you next year. You will have lots of new stories to tell us about
your adventures in the holidays.
Your kaiako have noticed that you often learn by doing and by trial and error. When you return
your new learning pathway will be exploring the world around you to discover and make sense.
