PARTS OF SPEECH
The part of speech indicates how the word functions in meaning as
well as grammatically within the sentence.
There are eight parts of speech in the English language:

• Noun.
• Pronoun.
• Verb.
• Adjective.
• Adverb.
• Preposition.
• Conjunction.
• Interjection.

1. NOUN:
Noun is the name of person, place or thing for example: Man,
Woman, Teacher, Table, ETC.

There are several different types of noun:


  Proper noun Common noun.
 Concrete noun.
 Abstract noun.
 Collective nouns.
 Countable nouns.
 Uncountable nouns.

2. PRONOUNS:
The word, which is used in the place of noun. The term ‘pronoun’ covers
many words.

There are several kinds of pronouns.


 Demonstrative pronouns.
 Indefinite pronouns.
 Interrogative pronouns.
 Possessive pronouns.
 Absolute possessive.
 Reciprocal pronouns.
 Reflexive pronouns/empathetic pronouns.

3. VERB:
A verb is a word, which is used to describe an action, state, or
occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence,
For Example: She left in a hurry; she accepted the job offer, ETC. There are
several kinds of verb.
 Regular verb
 Irregular verb.
 Linking verb.
 Transitive verb.
 Intransitive verb.
 Finite verb.
 Infinite verb.
 Auxiliary verb.
 Action verbs.
 Modal verbs Auxiliary verbs.

4. Adjective:
Adjectives are words that describe or modify other words, making your
writing and speaking much more specific
there are several kinds of verb.
 Definite & Indefinite Articles.
 Possessive Adjectives.
 Demonstrative Adjectives.
Interrogative Adjectives.
 Indefinite Adjectives.

5. Preposition
Prepositions typically show how the noun, noun phrase, or pronoun is related to
another word in the sentence.
There are several kinds of preposition.
 Simple prepositions.
 Double prepositions.
 Compound prepositions.
 Participle prepositions.
 Phrase prepositions

7. Interjection
An interjection is a word that expresses a strong emotion. It expresses emotion of
joy, sorrow, excitement, wonder surprise, pain, sadness, happiness ETC.

There are several kinds of interjection.


 Interjections for Greeting
 Interjections for Joy
 Interjections for Approval and Praise
 Interjections for Surprise
 Interjections for Grief/Pain
 Interjections for Bidding Farwell
 Interjections for Expressing Doubt or Hesitation
8. Conjunction
A conjunction is the glue that holds words, phrases and clauses (both dependent and
independent) together.
The four types of conjunctions.

 Coordinating.
 Subordinating.
 Correlative.
 Adverbial.

 PRONOUNS
The word which is used in the place of noun is called
pronoun.
The term ‘pronoun’ covers many words.
There are nine different kinds of pronouns. In general, these do
not cause difficulties for native English speakers, but each type
has its quirks, which are covered on the main page about
pronouns. The list below is for quick reference.

There are several kinds of pronouns.


 Personal pronouns:
Personal pronouns are the pronouns that
associate primarily with a particular person, in the
grammatical sense. I.e. He, She, IT, etc.

EXAMPLES:
He is my best friend.
She is hardworking student.

Demonstrative pronouns:
That replace the noun
and identify something specific. i.e. This, That, These,
Those etc.
EXAMPLES:
These are intelligent boys.
Our teachers are very highly qualified.

Indefinite pronouns:
In which there is no surety of a
person or things. These are used for non-specific things.
I.e. Anyone, Nobody, Anybody, Everyone etc.

EXAMPLES:
Somebody ate my sandwich.
Everyone says she is beautiful.

Interrogative pronouns:
These are used for making
questions in any sentence. I.e. Which, What, Whom,
How, Where, etc.

EXAMPLES:
Which color do you prefer.
Who is driving the car

Possessive pronouns:
These pronouns are used to
show possession in the sentence. They are also
called adjective pronoun. They demonstrate the
owner ship. I.e. Yours, His, Mine, Hers etc.
EXAMPLES:
This dog is mine.
His shoes were old and worn.

Absolute possessive:
These are a particular type of
pronoun. Absolute possessive shows the possession
of nouns. I.e. Mine, Yours, His, Hers etc.

EXAMPLES:
I loved listening to his voice.

Reciprocal pronouns:
These shows mutual action
and relationship. i.e.: Each other, One another

EXAMPLES:
1: They talked to each other.
2: Ali and Nawaz make joke each other.

Reflexive pronouns/empathetic pronouns:

Reflexive pronouns end on self or selves. It refers to


another noun or pronoun in the sentence. I.e. Myself,
yourself, Himself, Ourselves etc.

EXAMPLES:
This work is done by myself.
These clothes are washed by herself.
Such word which are adding some information in the meaning of verb adverb produce the
information about flowing information

5. Adverb
Types of adverb
Adverb f manner
There adverb describe the manner of an action or way of occurrence

For Example
Nice, bad, good, rudely

Adverb of time
These adverbs describe about the time f occurrence f can action

For Example
Weekly, daily, usually

Adverb of place
These adverb describe express the pace of occurrence of an Action

For Example

There, somewhere, inside, outside

Adverb of frequency

These adverb describe how often or how many time action is occurred

For Example

Again and Again, often usually
