Reaction Paper

Munting Tinig or Small Voices a Teamwork Production directed by Gil M. Portes,

DGPI. Alessandra De Rossi as Melinda, the lead character, who made a difference of the

lives of the people in the community. She is a substitute teacher who teaches music. The

film talks about the live of the teachers and the lives of the students of Malawig

Elementary School. The film shows the situation or lives of the people of the far-flung

area. Melinda, a dedicated teacher and a teacher that wants to be heard. She let her

students to dream and she does not want them to have hindrances towards their dreams.

The film also shows that the school is neglected from opportunities to have sufficient

books and funs to repair their classrooms because it a far and not safe area. It also shows

that the parents are not giving the importance of education because they believe that to

have food to eat is more important than to finish school, that is why students are always

absent because they need to work. The main point of the film is the values and

importance of a teacher and making a difference.

This film conveys important life message especially to me as a newly hired teacher.

The fil shows how people treated teachers. Teachers for them is just a person who will

teach their children how to read and write. For others, teaching is the last option as a

job. What the society wants and sees teacher to be the teachers just do or act on it what

the society wants them to be.

The film is related to the problem in our present-day because of child labor – in

the film the parents let their children to work in the film rather than to go to school. The

parents deprive their children from opportunities to learn more or even to finish their

study and to go for a higher education. Because they believed that it is enough to just

know how to write and read. But because of Melinda, she made a difference. She let her
everyone see that education is important and she let her students dream more to be

successful in life. And I think the film also shows that teachers are under paid. It is that

teacher’s salary and compensation are too low compared to the task and dedication that

he/she gives to the school and community. That is why teachers sells snacks/foods inside

the classroom to compensate the needs of their family. But it is really sad because

teachers use their power or used grades to scare and oblige students. The part that really

made me cry was the degrading of teachers, they always say – Teacher ka lang! –

Teacher lang tayo! Teaching is the noblest profession. Take pride of it. It takes a strong

heart and mind to build one. We should always put it in our minds and hearts that it is

best profession, for without us, there can be no other profession.

The important point of the film, “Munting Tinig”, are; to be an effective teacher is

to be a good listener. Teachers should always be ready to lend ears no matter how

stressful and disappointing may it be; Taking pride as a teacher, teachers are not just to

teach but teachers mold learners to be an asset in the society; Be determined, nothing

should stop you from achieving one’s dreams despite of the difficulties and challenges in

life for determination is the key to success. Watch the film to remember how to make a

difference and to be better in the profession. Let us teach with a heart. The topic is highly

recommended for teachers and teachers to be. Let us make a difference with the lives

our learners to remember us that we are one of the people that helps and mold them to

be a better citizen in the society.
