AMISOM donates office equipment to Southwest State police stations

BAIDOA, 12 January, 2020 —The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on


Saturday donated an assortment of office furniture to five police stations in
Southwest State of Somalia as part of AMISOM support to aid operational efficiency
of the police to better serve the public.

The assortment of chairs, filing cabinets and tables will benefit Afgoye, Marka,
Baidoa, Hudur and Bardaale police stations all in the Southwest State of Somalia. The
donations will come in handy for the remote police stations where the government
plans to deploy more police officers.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony at Baidoa police station, Isaq Ali Subak,
the Southwest State Minister of Internal Security thanked AMISOM for the support
and said they plan to deploy more police officers in those areas.

"The equipment will be used for smooth running of the police stations. We are
grateful to AMISOM Police for supporting Southwest state police through training
courses, mentoring and various other day-to-day activities," Minister Isaq said.

"We have plans to expand our police program by recruiting and training 400 officers.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hiriga Dauda, the AMISOM Police Coordinating
Officer for Southwest State, said that the donated equipment is meant to improve
police operations and that he hopes the gesture will forge stronger working ties with
the Somali police.

"Today, as AMISOM police, through the Danish funded project, we have handed over
chairs, filing cabinets and tables to be distributed to the five police stations. This
furniture is meant to ease the work of the police officers and improve operational
capacities, which in turn will improve policing activities within the State," SSP Hiriga
affirmed.

As part of its mandate, AMISOM supports the Somali Security Forces by enhancing
their capacity through training and provision of material support to help improve
their work conditions.
