PE Pipe (Polyethylene)
Revaho

Revaho has been producing high-quality polyethylene (PE) pipes for

horticulture, industry, drinking water and sewage systems, recreational and
sports facilities, and applications with heating since 1988. PE pipes can be
outstandingly used where flexibility and a high impact strength are required.
PE has good resistance to acids, bases, non-aromatic hydrocarbons and
salts. Strict demands on starting materials, production methods and control
have ultimately led to the quality necessary for a reliable and durable
product meeting the latest applicable KIWA (drinking water), GASTEC QA (gases) and/or KOMO (sewage)
standards.

Polyethylene in various strengths

Polyethylene is available in various classes and is frequently specified with a number indicating the minimum
tensile strength of the material in N/mm² at 20°C over 50 years: PE40, PE63, PE80 and PE100. Colloquially we
often speak of CPE, LDPE, MDPE and HDPE. Those are more general terms, however, and say nothing about
the strength of a PE pipe.

Advantages of polyethylene
PE is a very strong and durable material with a good resistance to chemicals. It is very good for welding to
produce 100% pull-resistant and watertight joints. PE is UV-resistant and has a temperature range of -30°C
to 60°C. For LDPE we recommend max. 40°C and for HDPE max. 60°C, with decreasing maximum pressure.
Exposure to high temperatures will shorten the service life.
PE can be used underground and above ground and is frost-resistant. Larger diameters are preferably installed
underground in view of the expansion and shrinkage of PE under the influence of temperature fluctuations.
The material is easily recyclable and therefore better for the environment. PE generally has larger wall
thicknesses than e.g. PVC. This offers greater safety in combination with the toughness of PE.

PE is permeable to many gases (oxygen) and liquids (oils, solvents). This means that molecules of gases and
liquids can migrate through the wall into the medium. The water in the pipe can thus absorb oxygen over the
course of time (and therefore cause corrosion to metal parts of the pipework). Any contaminants in the ground
can make drinking water unsuitable for consumption (such as bromine, aromatics).

Quality comes first

Quality has a high priority at Revaho. The goods produced have to satisfy exacting demands. Several
inspections and tests are performed in order to be able to guarantee the quality. Revaho has a well-equipped
laboratory for this with the right apparatus to be able to carry out all the necessary inspections and tests in
accordance with the requirements of the various standards.

The most important standard inspections and tests are:

• Incoming inspection of the raw materials: On delivery, the raw materials are tested to determine whether
they satisfy the specified requirements and can thus be used for production;
• Production control by the operators: During production, the operators monitor the production
parameters;
• Inspection in laboratory: Random samples taken during production give additional assurance of the
quality of the produced pipe;

4.2
Version 17.1

• Release inspections performed by the laboratory: After production, all polyethylene orders produced are
tested for:

- Bursting pressure [EN 921]
- Tensile strength [ISO 6259]
- Leak-tightness [ISO 1183]
- Stress cracking [ISO 8796 and ASAE S435]
- Dimensions and appearance [NEN-EN-12201-2 and BRL K17105 KIWA]

With these tests it is possible to supply the consistent and reliable high quality that forms the basis of Revaho’s
success.

Certifications and standards, KIWA, GASTEC QA, KOMO certificate

Revaho has held the KIWA product certificate for PE40, PE80 and PE100 since 1993. The standards that we
have to satisfy are:

KIWA NEN-EN 12201-2: European drinking water standard

BRL K17105 KIWA (formerly BRL K533-03)

Revaho has held the GASTEC QA inspection criteria No. 8 certificate since 1998. The standards that we have
to satisfy are:

GASTEC QA NEN-EN-1555
PE80 certificate

Revaho has held the KOMO product certificate since 2009. The standards that we have to satisfy are:

KOMO NEN-EN 13244-02: European standard for plastic piping systems for general purposes,
drainage and sewerage
BRL 52203

As far as the classification and mechanical requirements are concerned, the requirements for BRL 52203 are
the same as those in NEN-EN 13244: "Plastic piping systems for buried and above-ground pressure systems for
water for general purposes, drainage and sewerage - Polyethylene (PE)".

The authority monitors Revaho to determine when the above standards are observed. This involves an
inspector from KIWA / GASTEC QA coming to inspect the documentation and measurement results several
times a year. The inspectors carry out random sample checks, examining pipes taken from stock and comparing
the results with the values documented by Revaho. The KIWA / GASTEC QA laboratory also carries out various
inspections, such as pressure tests on pipes produced by Revaho.

Over the course of the years, a quality system has been established that guarantees the reproducibility of the
quality and that meets the KIWA and GASTEC QA requirements. An important fact is that all non-certified
products manufactured by Revaho are also tested and handled according to the same strict standardisation.

Standards for PE pipes (including KIWA, GASTEC QA and KOMO)

These pipes include:

- HDPE
- LDPE
- Dripper hose
- Fogger hose
- SportsPro100
- Eco-irrigation
- EcoNaff (heating)
- Heating hoses (greenhouse and underfloor heating hoses, Naff3 pipes and geothermal heat loops)

These pipes are inspected for the same points as the certified pipes.

4.3
Version 17.1
Because the pipe has a specific application, Revaho has established critical works standards for this that guar-
antee the quality. A classification (PE40, PE63, PE80 and PE100) can be assigned to non-certified pipes so that
their working pressure can be determined.

Traceability
All production runs are assigned a unique number. This unique number is printed on the pipe and also used in
all production and inspection documents. All the data are stored according to this number and kept for 10 years.
In the event of complaints, the production history can be traced back using this order number.

Availability
The possibilities offered by our production department are very broad. PE pipes can be produced for a very
large number of applications and in a very wide variety of dimensions, pressure classes and wall thicknesses.
The availability is indicated in the price list by a code.

Article code A : Standard article, available from stock.

Article code O : Related articles, delivery time is dependent on the production of the standard article.
Article code P : Product on demand: Production only above a minimum quantity.

LDPE pipe
Revaho

In addition to HDPE pipe, there are also a wide range of possibilities with
LDPE pipe. LDPE has a slightly lower density and is therefore more flexible
in use. LDPE is used for smaller diameters with different maximum working
pressures.

General characteristics
• LDPE pipe: diameters 5 to 63 mm
• Resistant to solid and liquid fertilisers and chemicals used in horticulture
• Sufficiently flexible and corrosion-resistant

General applications
LDPE has a wide array of fields of application in irrigation systems, mat and underfloor heating or other trans-
port pipelines. The pipe is also used as protective conduit for cables or PVC pipes or as a driver to support
moving covers.

Dripper hose
A specific LDPE hose is available for the installation of drippers, sprinklers and PE hoses. This dripper hose is
made from a special composition of raw materials giving it the ideal properties for use as a dripper hose. The
hose can be punched for the installation of drippers or sprinklers. Before delivery, dripper hoses undergo a
stress cracking test according to standard ASAE S435, a tensile test according to NEN-EN 6299-1 and a
pressure test according to NEN-EN 921.

Dripper hoses are available in both black and black/white. Black/white hose reflects the majority of the incident
light, thus reducing heating of the hose due to sunlight, and hence the heating of the irrigation water. Black/white
PE hose is produced to the same standard as black PE pipe.
Dripper hoses can be supplied cut to length. Where possible, several lengths are installed on a reel with a
length of ‘blind’ hose in between the lengths for simple installation on the distribution lines. Dripper hoses can
also be supplied as whole coils.

Dripper hose characteristics

• Diameters 16 to 32 mm, black/white and black
• Made from a special composition of raw materials for application as dripper hose with good sealing effect
• Possibility of automatic punching and/or installation of drippers

Dripper hose application

In dripper, sprinkler or other irrigation installations where a punchable hose is required. For use with i.a.
Kameleon, Cobra, CNL, Bubbler, Capillary, Capinet and Woodpecker drippers. In irrigation systems, this hose is
used where sprinklers are fitted using barb/superstart connectors (e.g. DAN Bridgeless and Mamkad sprinklers).

PE heater pipe
Revaho

PE pipes can be used as heater pipes. Heater pipes are characterised by a

higher heat resistance. Black/white heater pipe is a black HDPE pipe with
white sheath. The hose is not diffusion-tight, the PE wall is permeable.
Oxygen for example can thus pass through the wall. We recommend
protecting the central heating installation against oxygen by using e.g. a
stainless steel heat exchanger.

Characteristics
• Heater pipe with high heat resistance for i.a. greenhouse horticulture, concrete floors and sports fields
• Not standardised or certified
• Not diffusion-tight
• All heater hoses are pressure-tested with compressed air

Application as greenhouse heater hose

The greenhouse heater hose is an HDPE hose that is used to selectively bring extra heat to the crop or root
area. If the hose is suspended, it must be sufficiently supported to prevent sagging. The choice of wall thickness
depends on the desired heat output and pressure class. This hose has a higher heat output due to the thinner
wall. The white greenhouse heater hose has a white sheath.

Application as underfloor heater hose

Underfloor heater hoses are used e.g. in concrete floors for ebb and flood systems. The most common sizes are
the 20 and 25 mm diameter hoses. These hoses are available with different wall thicknesses so that the right
hose can be chosen for every application. Hoses with larger wall thicknesses are resistant to higher pressures
and have a lower heat dissipation coefficient so that longer lengths are possible. Underfloor heater hoses with
a wall thickness or 2.2 or 2.7 mm are therefore preferred.

Application as Naff3 pipe

Specially for heating and keeping sports fields free of snow, Revaho has developed a field heater hose that
maintains its characteristics at a higher temperature over a longer period and at higher pressure (5 years, 50°C,
5 bar). Ask Revaho for the possibilities.

Application for EcoNaff heating

As field heater hose for soil-grown crops such as asparagus. This hose has a slower heat transfer due to the
larger wall thickness.

PP heater pipe (corrugated)

Corrugated heater hose is made from polypropylene and is used as a

heater hose on, for example, growing racks or in/on the ground as soil/root
heater. By supplying the heat where it is needed, for example to the roots,
the room heating temperature can often be reduced, allowing costs to be
saved. The raw materials for this pipe are 100% virgin materials. This
makes the pipe resistant to higher temperatures. We recommend using the
pipe up to 50°C, as this prolongs the service life. Thanks to the blending
with carbon, this pipe has a good resistance to UV radiation. This hose can also be suspended.

These hoses are also increasingly being used to heat cold water using sunlight. In this case a spiral is laid on
the roof in the sun.

Characteristics
• Large wall surface area / heat transfer
• Thin wall, allowing a better heat exchange between water and air
• Easy to install

Application
Heater hose on, for example, growing racks or in/on the ground as soil/root heater.

Technical data

PE geothermal heat loops
Revaho

Geothermal heat is heat that is extracted from the heat of the earth. It can
be used to heat and/or cool any building. A closed-centre well system is
used to feed the heat extracted to the heat pump.

A closed-centre well system functions on the basis of circulation. Closed

lines (borehole heat exchangers) are installed in the ground through which
a glycol solution (antifreeze) is continuously circulated. During the circulation
process, the glycol solution absorbs the heat and transports it to the heat pump. A very efficient and sturdy
system. The advantage of a vertical system is that the risk of damage to the pipes is minimised and only a
limited working space is required. Furthermore, geothermal heat exchangers require little maintenance.

Revaho supplies tailor-made single or double borehole heat exchangers. The loops can be supplied with any
desired length. In order to distinguish clearly between the supply and return line, the heat exchanger has two
colours; black PE100 pipe for the supply line and black PE100 pipe with red stripe for the return line.
The Revaho borehole heat exchangers for a closed-centre well system are supplied with 180° U-coupling
assembled on a reel, pressure tested to 8 bar, in accordance with standard NEN-EN 12201-2.

Flatnet
Netafim

Flatnet is a fibre-reinforced, flexible and rollable PE hose. It is available with

or without preassembled ½” fittings. Flatnet is used in both greenhouse
horticulture, outdoor growing and agricultural crops.
Depending on the wishes and requirements, this hose is used as main line,
distribution line and transport line, as temporary/seasonal line or permanent
line.

Flatnet offers a cost reduction in the field of transport, storage and assembly. Flatnet is supported by a broad
range of fittings. These are available with a pillar/hose clamp connection. The Flatnet is generally installed
above ground or underground. The standard tools are sufficient for assembly. Installation can even be carried
out in frosty or rainy weather. As no glue is used, the system can be immediately pressurised after assembly.

Characteristics
• Diameters of 2”, 3” and 4”
• Recognisable from the white outside with red stripe
• Very easy to assemble with simple tools
• Very compact and easy to transport
• Up to 80% lighter than comparable pipe systems
• The white outside reflects sunlight and has a high UV resistance
• The black PE on the inside provides sufficient protection against the chemicals commonly used in
horticulture
• The reinforcement fibres minimise expansion, and elongation and twisting at changes in pressure are
eliminated

Application
Thanks to the high working pressure in combination with the ½” connections, this hose is suitable for a large
number of installations, such as:
• Inline dripper systems (also pressure-compensated and self-closing)
• Outline dripper systems (also pressure-compensated and self-closing)
• Outdoor sprinkler systems (also pressure-compensated and self-closing)
• Ebb and flood systems on roller containers

Drainage pipes

In some cases, water can cause a great deal of nuisance: A garden is

turned into a pool of mud, crops are ruined and fields become impassable.
But this can be avoided: Drainage systems can improve the dewatering of
your land. Revaho can supply you with flexible drainage pipes for such
applications. They are made of PE (polyethylene) or PP (polypropylene)
raw materials and can be supplied in various diameters and with a variety
of sheaths. They can also be used to discharge gases that may form under
plastic liner films.

The various sheaths for drainage pipes are distinguished according to an O90 value. The basis for this system
is the filter tightness per sheath, indicated as a degree of filtration. The O90 value is a measure of the pore size
or the indication of the degree of sand-tightness of the sheath material. The tighter the structure of the sheath,
the lower the O90 value. Due to its tight structure, a sheath with a low O90 value can, under certain circum-
stances, become more quickly clogged than a sheath with a higher O90 value. Plastic sheaths have – in theory
and in practice – a longer service life than organic sheaths (coconut). These plastic fibres are suitable for clay
and sandy soils. Coconut can be used in peaty soils and/or sandy soils (no lime).

Characteristics of drainage pipes

• Durable
• Flexible
• High resistance to chemicals
• Resistant to high and low temperatures
• Recycled / recyclable material with less environmental impact than PVC

Characteristics of fittings
• Available in the most common forms: Sockets, tapers, T-pieces and end caps. Click fittings (snap-in fittings)
are also available
• Made of i.a. PP and PE
