Coursework: Element 2
This submission for Element 2 of the coursework has the following 3 components

1. Spreadsheets and statistics: Analysing the population of Bristol;


The assessed submission for this component is the output and results from the spreadsheet practical. You
will hand in a series of three graphs presenting the results of your spreadsheet analysis.

Submission: Three graphs

2. Analysing House Prices 2000-2009


The assessed submission for this component is the presentation and interpretation of the descriptive
statistics you have calculated.

Submission: Descriptive statistics (½ a page)

3. Geographic Information System: Mapping the population of Bristol


The assessed submission for this component of the portfolio is the population density map you will create
during the GIS practical session.

Advice
Although you should be able to complete the components of the coursework during the timetabled
sessions, it will be worthwhile spending time refining your work to ensure your submission is of a high
standard, as this is an explicit assessment criterion. If you use the formative feedback opportunities, you
will already know what is suitable for submission and where you need to focus your efforts for
improvement. Remember that the module tutors are available to help you should you need assistance.

Spreadsheets, Statistics & GIS 60 marks
42-60 marks (>70%) - Excellent standard of work.

Excellent work throughout, all 3 graphs are completed with accurate analysis being evident. All 3
graphs are presented clearly and to a high standard, being appropriate in format and easily
interpreted. Statistics are comprehensive, clear and accurately calculated .Methods for the
statistical analysis is described suitably with a sensible and fully justified interpretation of the results
presented.GIS map is comprehensive and includes all the correct data and is suitably classified
information relating to the interpretation of the map is complete and overall presentation is of an
excellent standard.

36-41 marks (>60%)- Very good Standard of work.

Very good work- all 3 graphs are submitted with appropriate analysis being evident. All 3 graphs are
presented clearly and to a good standard, Graphs are in a suitable format although there may be
some areas that are not easily interpreted or with minor omissions or errors. Statistics are submitted,
and generally accurately calculated. Methods for the statistical analysis are described reasonably
well with an appropriate interpretation of the results presented. GIS map is complete and includes
the majority of the correct data being suitably classified with respect to information relating to the
interpretation of the map, overall presentation is of a very good standard.

30-35 marks (>50%)- Good Standard of work

Good Work- Suitable evidence of an ability to generate charts, calculate and consider statistics is
demonstrated together with and ability to prepare GIS maps. There may be some errors evident with
respect to correct data and production of charts, description and calculation and statistics, similarly
the GIS map may not be entirely accurate and complete in all respects. Reasonable level of
presentation and structure evident.

24-29marks (>40%)- Barely Acceptable standard

Work only just satisfies the requirements of the task- A basic attempt has been made at providing
Charts, statistical analysis and/or GIS Map, the submission may not be entirely complete, similarly
there are inaccuracies present throughout. Submission overall could be much improved.

18-23marks (>30%)- Poor Standard of work- Fail

An attempt has been made which falls well short of the basic task requirements. Limited response to
a number of key criteria. Significant errors or lack of content within the submission. Work is
incomplete in many areas.

0-17 marks (less than 30%)- Unacceptable standard of work

Unacceptable work- none or extremely limited response to requirements of the task set.
