1. Scope of Works

Scope of Activities

This scope defines the minimum standards to be adopted when installing Light
Fixture in Hotel Guest Room, Corridor, Foyer, Front of House (FOH) and Back of
House (BOH). A light fixture or luminaire is an electrical device used to create
artificial light or illumination. A complete lighting fixture unit consists of the light
source or lamp, the reflector for directing the light, an aperture (with or without a
lens), the outer shell or housing for lamp alignment and protection, an electrical
ballast, if required, and connection to a power source.

Site Procedure

Site mobilization shall be done with real time monitoring the conditions & progress of
builder works. Before commencement of the work, carry out examination of the
physical condition of the area. Photographs should be taken where necessary, prior
to commencement and during works.
METHOD STATEMENT

I. Preparation stage

a. Engineer in-charge shall check to ensure that the Light Fixtures

manufacturing, complies with specification and drawings.

b. Engineer shall check to ensure that when installing Light Fixture in Hotel
Guest Room, Corridor, Foyer, Front of House (FOH) and Back of House
(BOH), architectural finishing work is completed.

c. Ensure there is any physical obstruction during the delivery light fixtures.

d. Ensure that the Light fixture design/equipment provided all are fully comply
with the specification.

e. Supplier shall deliver light fixtures unit to site and store it designated place.

f. Handle the light fixture unit with care to avoid damage to components, frame
and finish.

g. When the light fixtures unit is received, unpack it sufficiently to inspect it for
concealed damage to determine that the shipment is complete and correct.

h. If the light fixtures are to be stored prior to installation, replace the packing for
protection during that period. When conditions permit, leave the packing intact
until light fixtures unit are at their final installation location.
i. Protect the fixtures against the dust and debris during construction period.

j. A trolley or pallet may offer a more convenient method of handling the light
fixtures to shift from one location to other.

II. Installation stage

a. Site survey of the proposed light fixture is based on approved shop drawing
by foreman / sub-contractor together with Engineer.

b. Installation must be carried out based on approved shop drawings & samples
by foreman / sub-contractor.

c. Site co-ordination to be conducted to ensure all the lighting point or light fitting
would not obstructed by other services by Engineer and Supervisor.

d. Most wall and ceiling fixtures–other than recessed fixtures–fit into standard
electrical outlet boxes and are usually easy to mount.

e. Most fixtures are mounted by a fixture stud or a fixture strap. Occasionally

you need an extension nipple or a plain nipple for mounting certain fixtures.

f. Any additional mounting devices required for special types of fixtures are
usually included in the materials furnished by the manufacturer. Read and
follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully for a neat installation.
MOUNTING FLUORESCENT FIXTURES

g. A fluorescent ceiling fixture may be easier to mount than an ordinary drop or

ceiling fixture

h. Follow the shop drawing for the location and marking.

i. All luminaries shall be adequately and rigidly supported in an approved
manner.
j. All luminaries shall be suspended independently.
k. Mounting height should be followed from the approved shop drawings.
l. Fix the fluorescent fixtures to dedicated ceiling support rods/hangers.
m. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully for mounting fluorescent
fixtures.
n. Some manufacturers may provide slightly different wiring arrangements. If so,
study the manufacturer's diagrams carefully and follow them in detail.
o. Be sure to check the power supply is off before attempting to install the
fixture.
p. Connect fixture wires to line wires with wire nuts or crimp-type solder less
connectors. Match wires by color: white wire to white, black to black.
q. Final connections to luminaries is areas of suspended areas shall be flexible
conduits.
r. Position fixture against ceiling, and fasten it with screws packaged with new
lamp. You may have to reassemble fixture, either before or after mounting it,
depending on its style

s. To install a new fluorescent tube, insert the tube's prongs into the holder and
twist the tube to lock it into place.

t. Mark the location based on the approved shop drawing

u. To install a starter in a fluorescent fixture, simply insert the starter and twist it
to secure it in its socket

INSTALLING EXIT/EMERGENCY LIGHTS

v. Follow the shop drawing for the marking and location.

w. Fix the Exit light/Emergency lights at marked location.
x. A method and apparatus for use in connecting a fixture, such as an exit sign,
to an electric box in a ceiling.

y. The apparatus is a two-piece canopy, an upper portion of which is connected

to the electric box in the ceiling and a lower portion of which is connected to
the exit sign.
z. The lower portion and exit sign are then connected to the upper portion
through the use of dimple-socket fittings in the sides of the upper and lower
portions of the canopy.
aa. The wires are then connected together and the two-piece canopy is closed
and secured shut.

bb. After installation of Light fixtures, Engineer-in-charge shall check the complete
works and complete the Inspection Checklist for Light Fixtures installation
works. ( See Appendix 1)

cc. Engineer-in-charge shall arrange and request for inspection with the Owner’s
representative Residential Technical Officer (RTO) using approved Main con
Request for Inspection (RIN) form.
