KAIROS RETREAT TEAM LEADER APPLICATION

IF INTERESTED IN BECOMING A TEAM LEADER FOR AN UPCOMING KAIROS


PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. K-1 WILL BE March 4-6, 2011. IF YOU
WOULD LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED TO BE A LEADER, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS
APPLICATION. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DECLINE IF YOU ARE CHOSEN AND ARE
UNABLE TO ATTEND DUE TO SCHEDULING CONFLICTS.

PLEASE TYPE YOUR APPLICATION AND PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY INFORMATION. THE TEAM
WILL BE CHOSEN BASED UPON THE FOLLOWING IN ORDER!
 NOTICEABLY LIVING THE 4TH DAY ON A DAILY BASIS BOTH DURING AND OUTSIDE OF
SCHOOL.
 YOUR ABILITY TO LEAD YOUR PEERS IN A MATURE MANNER. BOTH DURING AND
AFTER THE KAIROS RETREAT.
 YOUR EFFORT AND IDEAS INCLUDED IN YOUR APPLICATION AND THE ABILITY TO
EFFECTIVELY PERFORM YOUR CHOSEN TALK.

APPLICATION SHOULD INCLUDE:

AT THE TOP OF YOUR PAPER PLEASE TYPE THE FOLLOWING:


NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE, EMAIL, AND KAIROS ATTENDED.
1. Briefly describe your experience in "Living The Fourth Day" since your KAIROS Retreat.
2. Prepare a chosen talk using the guidelines below, as well as the talk descriptions on the
second page of the application.

GUIDELINES: Choose a talk and prepare an outline of the talk you would give to the
retreatants if chosen for the team. PLEASE DO NOT WRITE THE TALK “WORD FOR
WORD”! This is just an outline, using brief comments, of what you might plan if chosen for
the team. You are not automatically entitled to give this talk if chosen for the team.

NOTE:
• Applicants will be put into a continuous applicant pool if not chosen for the first
retreat. You only need to apply once. If asked to be a leader for a retreat that you
are unable to attend, you will be considered for the next retreat.
• YOU ARE EXPECTED TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP FOR THE KAIROS
COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND NOT JUST ON YOUR
RETREAT!

Student presentation choices for Kairos

"Know Yourself" (1st night) theme - "Who are you, really?"


• The speaker needs to stress self-acceptance of both good and bad qualities. Recognizing one's good
qualities gives one the support necessary to correct bad qualities. (personal examples)
• Sometimes we don't know ourselves because we are afraid to be ourselves. Give examples.
• No real relationships can develop unless we are "real" with people. Personal examples?
• We must look at ourselves realistically in order to get to know ourselves.
• Share some examples of your own strengths and faults; make this real for the retreatants.

"Ideals" (2nd day) theme - "To know your ideals is to know yourself"
• Definition of ideals? What are yours?
• All of us have ideals, values, desires, and goals, which determine how we act.
• Give examples of your short and long-term goals and how you try to achieve them.
• Give personal examples of how your ideals have developed.
• Give examples of a time when your ideals weren't constant with your behavior.
• I can live my ideals if I want to. Personal examples?

"Piety" (2nd day) theme - "Live for others - Christian ideals put into practice"
• What it means to be pious? Personal examples.
• Use examples of persons in your life that exemplifies the true characteristics of a Christian.
• What are the qualities of being pious?
• What are the struggles of striving to be a pious person? Personal examples.
• Is being pious worthwhile?

"Leaders" (3rd day) theme - "We are called to be Christian leaders to others"
• What are the qualities of a leader?
• Who are leaders in your life? How have you been a leader? Examples.
• What types of leaders do you know? Difference between positive leader and negative leader?
• Events that involve pain and sacrifice, how do they challenge us to walk with the Lord?
• Reasons for being a Christian leader?
• How can you challenge others to be leaders?

"Love in Action" (3rd day) theme - "How can we put all that we learned into action"
• How can we practice genuine love outside of Kairos?
• Explain real love, God's love? Christian love is not limited to our best friends. Explain.
• Real love demands sacrifice! Give examples.
• Challenge the retreatants to live God's love in daily lives. Examples?
• Explain what "live the 4th" means to you? What should it mean to them?
