I. Background
Weather disturbances is a term used to describe a change in atmospheric conditions for
weather patterns. Hurricanes, cyclones, thunder storms and tornadoes fall under the different types of
weather disturbances.
Weather disturbances can cause damage properties and even lives of people. It can destroy
means of livelihood that eventually leads to food shortage after a typhoon, etc.
The path of any weather disturbances cannot be changed or be stopped from coming. The only
thing that people can do is to prepare for any weather disturbances to lessen the possible damages and
losses that it could bring.
II. Materials
The materials needed for precautionary measures of weather disturbances are the following:
Repair tools
Emergency kit
Battery powered radio
Food and water
During a typhoon, stay indoors, postpones any travel plans or appointments. Stay away from
any place that may have experienced short circuit and places that may be dangerous. If the household
lives in a low lying area, be alert about local officials’ advisory regarding evacuations. At the evacuation
center, make sure to keep updated about the latest news advisory. Be careful of the food and water,
make sure that the food is clean and the drinking water is boiled. They might have been contaminated
during the calamity. Check if there are still family members or relatives that need help or rescue at
affected areas.
After the calamity has subsided, ensure the safety and well-being of family members and
relatives that are affected. Check the damages caused and have them repaired or replaced if necessary.
Ask an electrician/professional to check electrical wirings to avoid short circuits and be safe. For those
who weren’t affected or those who have recovered, help victims of calamities by giving donations, like
food, water, clothes, etc., or being a volunteer in relief operations.
IV. Timeline
Weather Disturbances
Before any weather disturbances, prepare the necessities. Food, water, emergency kit, radio
and secured documents must be prepared and kept. The house should be thoroughly checked for any
repairs and must be checked to be sturdy enough for any upcoming calamity. Make sure to stay indoors
during a typhoon or be updated for any evacuation plans if needed. After the typhoon has subsided, the
well-being of family members and relatives. Check for any damages and losses.
