Product Description

2.2 Multicast Services

Multicast refers to point-to-multipoint communication in the network. The multicast
technology implements the point-to-multipoint data transmission in the network. The core
of multicast technology is to copy the packet at the place near to the receiver as close as
possible.

The source host just sends one packet whose destination address is the address of the
multicast group. All receivers in the multicast group can receive the same data copy.
Other hosts in the network can not receive the data except the host (destination host) in
the multicast group. The multicast group is identified with Type D IP address (224.0.0.0 ~
239.255.255.255).

Multicast services are as follows:

 IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) Snooping/Proxy/Router, multicast

protocol and template-based controllable multicast, supporting 1024 multicast
groups at maximum.

 Abundant subscriber authorization modes, meeting demands of various multicast

operations.

 Single PVC (Permanent Virtual Channel) multicast and multiple PVC multicast.

 Video data stream from multiple uplink interfaces.

 Channel preview, setting the maximum preview times each day as needed.

 Audience statistics function.

 IGMP pre-add on, fast leave and IGMP high-performance processing, suitable for
developing BTV (Broadcast TV) over xDSL (x Digital Subscriber Line) service.

 Controlling the multicast group for subscriber to join. Interconnect to the OSS
(Operating Support System) system via TL1 interface, solving the subscriber
multicast authority control problem.

 Multicast package

 Distributed Multicast

 Call data recording (CDR)

Product Description

 DHCP snooping, DHCP snooping is a DHCP security feature that provides security
by filtering un-trusted DHCP messages and by building and maintaining a DHCP
snooping binding table. An un-trusted message can be received from outside the
network or firewall and that can cause traffic attacks within the network.

 DHCP source guard. DHCP source guard prevents IP spoofing by allowing only the
IP addresses that are obtained through DHCP snooping on a particular port. This
filtering limits the ability of a host to attack the network by claiming a neighbor host's
IP address.

 DHCP rate limit, avoid the DHCP attack from untrusted user

 DHCP relay which is L2 relay

 Port Mirroring

 Packet filter/ACL, based on L2,L3 and L4 related information

3.2 Service Functions

This section describes typical application.

3.2.1 Enterprise Network Dedicated Line Application

Medium/small or large enterprises have great requirements on bandwidth. However, the
requirement cannot be fulfilled because there are few fiber resources or fiber cannot
reach the destination. FSAP 9800 utilizes the existing twisted-pairs to provide high
bandwidth to users. In the networking of medium/small or large enterprises, FSAP 9800
is uplinked to L3 exchange and connected to the headquarters or the networks of other
divisions.

The following Figure 3-1 shows the enterprise networking.

3.2.2 IP Hotel Application

FSAP 9800 provides high-speed Internet access and video-on-demand functions. In
addition, it provides the billing mode based on time and cooperates with the Centrex
attendant console of hotels, implementing check-in and check-out services.

Figure 3-2 shows an IP Hotel access application.

Figure 3-2 IP Hotel Access Application

3.2.3 IPTV Application

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) describes a system where a digital television service
is delivered using the Internet Protocol over a network infrastructure, which may include
delivery by a broadband connection. For residential users, IPTV is often provided in
conjunction with Video-on-Demand and may be bundled with Internet services such as

Product Description

Web access and VoIP. The commercial bundling of IPTV, VoIP and Internet access is
referred to as a Triple Play. Adding the mobile voice service leads to the Quadruple Play
denomination. IPTV is typically supplied by a broadband operator using a closed network
infrastructure. This closed network approach is in competition with the delivery of TV
content over the public Internet. This type of delivery is widely called TV over Internet or
Internet Television. In businesses, IPTV may be used to deliver television content over
corporate LANs and business networks. Perhaps a simpler definition of IPTV would be
television content that, instead of being delivered through traditional formats and cabling,
is received by the viewer through the technologies used for computer networks. The
Figure 3-3 shows IPTV application

Figure 3-3 IPTV Application

3.2.4 xPON APPLICATION

xPON is combination of some optimal technologies and network architectures. Video on
demand and other ‘triple-play’ services of video, voice and data require the provision of
high bit rate residential services directly to consumers. Passive Optical Networks are the
next step beyond DSL and cable modems, delivering very high-bit rate services to
consumers over a full optical access network.

Once insert EPON/GPON ONU subcard onto system control board ,FSAP 9800 can acts
as a PON MDU equipment in xPON application scenario.

As shows in Figure 3-4, In the PON network application,FSAP 9800 act as PON MDU:

 The ONT is connected with LAN switches or hubs in the downstream direction
to provide services to more users.

 As a MDU equipment, the FSAP 9800 provides services to more users.

3.2.5 PWE3 Service

The PWE3 technology can implement multi-service transmission in one packet switch
network, thereby it can bring down carrier’s OPEX efectively. Now, carries want to
migrate the traditional services, eg. TDM、ATM、FR、DDN,to the IP/MPLS network using
PWE3, at the same time, carries can provide Ethernet service for business client to
intra-network its headquater and branchs by PWE3.

Product Description

7.2 Definitions, Symbols And Abbreviations

7.2.1 Definitions
ADSL

ADSL is based on asymmetric technology. It allows more downstream bandwidth from

central office to customer site than upstream. Asymmetry, combined with always-on
access (eliminating the call setup), makes ADSL ideal for Internet/Intranet surfing,
video-on-demand, and remote LAN access. These application users can download much
more information than they upload.

ADSL rates expand existing access capacity by a factor of 50 or more without new
cabling. ADSL can literally transform the existing public information network from one
limited to voice, text, and low-resolution graphics to a powerful system capable of
bringing multimedia, including full motion video to each home.

ADSL2+

ADSL2+ is a new generation of ADSL broadband service access technology. It doubles

the bandwidth used to carry downstream data.

ADSL2+ provides 24 Mbps downstream and 1 Mbps upstream. ADSL2+ uses high
frequency up to 2.2 MHz. ADSL2+ applies to transmission with asymmetric rate. It
delivers speed up to 20 times faster than the typical broadband services over copper line
networks. FSAP 9800 provides ADSL 2+ service.

Annex A

This mode uses ADSL over POTS, with POTS service on same lines pair.

Annex B

This mode uses ADSL over ISDN, with ISDN service on same lines pair.

Annex C

This ADSL service works with TCM-ISDN interference.

Besides the above three modes, ADSL2+ also supports following three modes below.
Frequency band is further divided into smaller sub-bands.

Annex I

It is compatible to complete digital mode of ADSL over POTS (annex A) frequency

spectrum. The available uplink band can be expanded from 3 kHz to 138 kHz if there is
no POTS service on line. It supports 31 sub-bands at the maximum. The maximum uplink
rate exceeds 1 Mbps.

Product Description

Annex J

It is compatible to the complete digital mode of ADSL over ISDN (annex B) frequency
spectrum. The available uplink band can be expanded from 3 kHz to 276 kHz if there is
no ISDN service on the line. It supports 64 sub-bands at the maximum. The utmost uplink
rate reaches to 2.3 Mbps.

Annex M

It is ADSL over POTS with the expanded uplink bandwidth. The uplink sub-band starts
from 6. The sub-bands end at 32, 36, 40, 44 to 63 according to different bandwidth
requirements. The total transmission power keeps the same, only the sub-band
distribution is different. In this way, 3 Mbps uplink rate is available. For the downlink, the
frequency is overlap and non-overlap similar to annex B.

VDSL2

VDSL2 (Very high-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line 2, ITU-T G.993.2 Standard) is an

access technology that exploits the existing infrastructure of copper wires that were
originally deployed for POTS services. It can be deployed from central offices,
fiber-accessed cabinets located near the customer premises, or within buildings.

ITU-T G.993.2 VDSL2 is the newest and most advanced standard of DSL broadband
wire line communications. Designed to support the wide deployment of Triple Play
services such as voice, video, data, high definition television (HDTV) and interactive
gaming, VDSL2 enables operators and carriers to gradually, flexibly, and cost efficiently
upgrade existing xDSL-infrastructure.

ITU-T G.993.2 (VDSL2) is an enhancement to G.993.1 VDSL that permits the

transmission of asymmetric and symmetric (Full-Duplex) aggregate data rates up to 200
Mbps on twisted-pairs using a bandwidth up to 30 MHz.

VDSL2 deteriorates quickly from a theoretical maximum of 250 Mbps at 'source' to 100
Mbps at 0.5 km and 50 Mbps at 1 km, but degrades at a much slower rate from there, and
still outperforms VDSL.

SHDSL

SHDSL technology provides high-speed symmetric data service on a single pair or two
pairs of twisted-pair cable. SHDSL technology can transport data symmetrically at data
rates from 192 Kbps to 2,320 Kbps or 2.3 Mbps on a single pair of twisted-pair cables.
For SHDSL with two pairs of twisted-pairs cable, the transmission rate ranges from 400
kbps to 4624 kbps. SHDSL utilizes a single copper wire pair, making it an affordable
DSL option attractive to small businesses.

Product Description

EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) is combination of some optimal technologies

and network architectures. With Ethernet as the carrier, EPON employs
point-to-multipoint architecture and passive fibre transmission mode. The EPON
technology is well compatible with the existing equipment. The new quality of service
(QoS) technologies makes it possible for the Ethernet to support voice, data and video
services. These technologies support priority (802.1p) and virtual local area network
(VLAN).

In an EPON, the optical signals can be accurately transmitted to a final user without any
complex protocol. The data from the final user can be sent to the network as a whole.

GPON

GPON is combination of some optimal technologies and network architectures. Video on

demand and other ‘triple-play’ services of video, voice and data require the provision of
high bit rate residential services directly to consumers. Passive Optical Networks are the
next step beyond DSL and cable modems, delivering very high-bit rate services to
consumers over a full optical access network.
