Objektif mata pelajaran :
The objective of this course is to make students aware of the key role of structures
in different branches of engineering. To introduce fundamental principles to analyze
problems in structural engineering, to understand the behaviour of structures and
10. so to design structures in order to meet specified requirements. Explain the
importance of assumptions and hypothesis in the development of theory. Examine
in detail certain simple structural forms and to understand how such they carry and
deform under applied load. This unit serves as a prerequisite to reinforced concrete
and steel design.
Senarai hasil pembelajaran :
On completion of this unit, a student shall possess knowledge and understanding
• Structural components in the real world, i.e. beams, trusses, frames, as well
as idealized supports, connections and loads.

• Basic terms, equations, and principles in structural analysis.

• Support reactions and internal forces in statically determinate structures
using the method of static.
11. • Explain and determine the shape of an in-extensional cable subject to
concentrated and distributed loads.
• Determine the internal stress resultants at any section of a simple, statically
determinate arch structure, and to find the maximum values of the stress
• Displacements in statically determinate structures using the method of
virtual work.
• Construct Bending moment and shear force diagrams for simple beam
structures and to explain the relationship between them.
• Explain curvature, and how it changes in an elastic beam when the bending
moment changes.
• Determine the buckling load of a column, and be able to approach the
design of columns accounting for the effects of yielding of the material and
geometric imperfection.
