Remy Jungerman - Where the river runs

Jap Sam 2019 ISBN 9789492852137 Acqn 29837
Pb 23x29cm 272pp col ills £26.50

Remy Jungerman. Where the River Runs is the first comprehensive monograph on the work of
Remy Jungerman. In his work Suriname-born Dutch artist Remy Jungerman (1959) searches for
a visual language that will bring different cultures together. His recent work is inextricably bound
up with African traditions and the Western, modernistic art tradition. He is interested in the
intersecting paths travelled by motifs from Africa, the Surinamese Maroon culture, and 20th
century Modernism. By exploring the convergence of patterns and shapes from these seemingly
disparate cultural landscapes, he reveals the distillation of time and identity.

The following international critics have contributed to the book: Remco de Blaaij, Ingrid Braam,
Leontine Coelewij, Roel Hijink, Charlotta Kotik, Charl Landvreugd, Adi Martis, Tumelo Mosaka,
Jose Manuel Noceda, Rob Perree, Sally & Richard Price, Benno Tempel, Joseph Underwood,
Vincent van Velsen and Lilly Wei.

Footprint 24 - The Architecture of Housing after the Neoliberal Turn

Jap Sam 2019 ISBN 9789492852083 Acqn 30200
Pb 19x26cm 164pp col ills £21.95

In Footprint 24 we want to discuss the implications of the neoliberal housing paradox for the
discipline of architecture. Re-theorising the architecture of dwelling is urgent to critically assess
past and current experiences and provide insights to engage with future challenges. Can this be
an opportunity to reiterate the social relevance of housing and thus attract the best planners,
urban designers and architects to contribute innovative solutions to accommodate the 'great
number'? Which possibilities are there to engage the architecture discipline in the housing
question once more? Which critical approaches to the housing issue after the neoliberal turn can
be used to re-conceptualise the architecture of dwelling in a post-neoliberal period? This issue of
Footprint aims at examining how the housing policies that unfolded since the 1980s have
contributed to re-theorise the architecture of dwelling as a social and spatial practice.

CUBIC JOURNAL 2 - Gender in Design

Jap Sam 2019 ISBN 9789492852090 Acqn 30201
Pb 20x27cm 120pp col ills £21.95

Issue 2 critically and analytically problematises gender, its questions, and its appropriateness in
relation to design. The interest here is centred on the question of 'how' genders are present and
constructed through conflicts, gender fluidity, and manners of interpreting design approaches and
problems. We further ask, 'how' the multitude of genders contributes to shaping the disciplinary
course or reframes their understandings? Has the question of gender become a burden or
catalyst for designers? What is the future that design should be looking at when considering
gender?

David Berge - A Walk in High Resolution

Jap Sam 2019 ISBN 9789492852229 Acqn 30202
Pb 19x26cm 96pp col ills £17.50

Since 2008, Belgium artist David Berge has been making Walk Pieces, during which he guides
participants in silence along a precise trajectory and within a precise timeframe through textures
and infrastructures that comprise the city. Walking together resonates with the phenomenological
minutiae of street life and for the entire duration of the Walk Piece, participants refrain from verbal
exchange and picture taking.

A Walk in High Resolution deals with corporeality, sleeping, awakening, and walking through the
interiors and fissures of urban infrastructures. Almost touching neighbouring bodies, reliving
experiences in cities by being absorbed in space that is at once personal, reflective, consumptive,
and the other, we walk through cities.

Ide Andre - Rattle! Rattle!

Jap Sam 2019 ISBN 9789492852151 Acqn 30203
Pb 21x30cm 100pp col ills £17.50

The work of Ide Andre (Ede, 1990) is born out of an obstinate surrender to acting through
painting. His paintings, often grubby and fleeting, yet at the same time clear and sharp in their
appearance, originate from various acts performed inside, as well as outside the studio space. In
his latest series of paintings, Andre is mainly working with ropes and cables. The rough, energetic
lines open a new world of references and structures.

Kie Ellens, curator of contemporary art at the Fries Museum, and author of this book, visited
Fokkema studio. Instead of buying a work, he proposed the small drawing Mem is yn't ljocht
should be the starting point of a commission. The result, the installation with the same title as this
book, Utwrydsk, was exhibited at the Fries Museum from 4 November through 31 December
2017.
