There are lots of events going around us (e.g.

wedding, seminars, concerts, conferences,

various competitions, fair, parties). The people organize these events tries to capture their
memories, so our plan is to provide them with quality photographs by professional
photographers. People sometimes hire studio people to take photographs for their events
but the photos they get from the studio people are not good enough and the quality is
really bad. People hiring these studio persons are really dissatisfied with the photographs
they get. So, we will provide them fully trained professional photographers for the events,
assuring quality photographs for capturing their precious moments. We will also provide
photo and photographer assistance for “Fashion Photography”, “Magazine Photography”,
“Calendar Photography” etc. We will also organize different “Photo Exhibitions” and
eventually fulfill the entire requirement for photography assistance.

We are fully scalable, online event photography solution. Our revolutionary process will
enhance the experience, success, and personalization of any event. “Lights & Colours”
doesn't take the pictures, but we work with those who do. By providing a digital
infrastructure, “Lights & Colours” increases photography revenue while reducing costs
and eliminating time consuming, non-core business activities. “Lights & Colours”
enables the photographer to focus on the portion of the process where they add the most
value and derive the most benefit—taking pictures.

Additionally, “Lights & Colours” will leverage its unique position in the photograph
fulfillment process to engage in online and traditional marketing activities with the end
consumer.
The event photography market is large: In the participatory sports event segment
—”Lights & Colours’s targeted entry point—there are in excess for an estimated 100,000
events annually. Industry sources report that nearly 80 percent of these participants have
Internet access.

The ability to handle digital formats at the outset will leave “Lights & Colours” well
positioned in the market with key established relationships as the market migrates to
digital photography. Bangladeshi professional digital still photographic exposures are
growing every day and more and more photographers are getting interested in
professional photography.

Event photography is a profitable business: Based on proprietary market research,

“Lights & Colours” estimates gross margins can approach 50 percent in its target market
from photo purchasing alone. As the medium converts to digital technologies, costs
associated with development and processing will reduce significantly further enhancing
margins. Ancillary revenue opportunities from direct and e-mail marketing also greatly
enhance the revenue streams. It is estimated that over 40 percent of Dhaka households
have some sort of professional photograph taken each year. Consumers want to view and
order their photos online. A recent study research states that nearly 73 percent of
consumers would like to be able view and share their photos with others online and via e-
mail.

Backend technology and business infrastructure are outside of the photographer's core
competence: Photographers add value almost exclusively through the act of actually
taking pictures. The remainder of the development process—processing negatives and
printing photographs—is already outsourced to professional labs. The final pieces of the
puzzle—mailing proofs, fulfilling orders, and handling payments—are similarly viewed
as low value added by the photographer. The “Lights & Colours” solution reduces costs
and streamlines the process for professional photographers, allowing them to concentrate
exclusively on the business of taking pictures.
Establishing and maintaining an e-commerce presence is still prohibitively expensive for
small businesses. In addition, there are ongoing, nontrivial costs to maintain the site and
process orders. Not surprisingly, less than 5 percent of small businesses conduct sales
online. By using “Lights & Colours”'s online solution, event photographers will be able
to achieve greater returns without significant up-front costs.

Order processing and fulfillment creates other significant revenue opportunities: Through
the process of printing photographs, e-mailing users, driving traffic to websites where
proofs are posted, and mailing prints, “Lights & Colours” will capitalize off of its
relationship with the end consumer. “Lights & Colours” will leverage its knowledge of
the end user and this relationship to realize significant revenue through online and
traditional marketing activities.

“Lights & Colours” offers a suite of commerce-enabling services for event photography
including:

• Home delivery of photos taken in an event, both print and soft copy in a dvd.

• Providing special photographs for calendars, magazines and posters.

• Online hosting at “Lights & Colours”.com of photos in a digital format or remote

hosting of photos on partner's website.

• E-mail notification to customers providing a unique hyperlink to view and order

their prints online.

• E-commerce and traditional offline order processing (phone, mail, fax).

• Providing an opportunity for the photographers to sell their photos online.

“Lights & Colours” will access, through outsource partnerships, such traditional services
as:

• Development, printing and digitizing of roll film.

• Photo printing and shipping to fulfill customer orders.

Benefits to the event coordinator

• Enabling participants to view, share, and order their personal event photos
enhances event experience and satisfaction and leads to increased participation in
future events.

• The “Lights & Colours” solution makes event photography a profitable, more
efficient and viable option where it was previously cost prohibitive through
traditional methods.

• “Lights & Colours” increases the event coordinators subsequent and on-going
contact with participants.

Benefits to the photographer

By relying on “Lights & Colours” for all non-core business and fulfilment activities,
professional photographers experience numerous advantages:

• Reduces the hazard of finding jobs.

• Reduced proof and printing costs.

• Reduced time to consumer.

• Allows photographer to focus on their core business—taking photos.

• Increased purchase and re-order transactions and revenue through viral marketing
of proofs—digital storage and circulation of photos allows a larger number of
interested parties to view proofs and order prints.

• Choice and flexibility in utilizing the “Lights & Colours” suite of services.

• Detailed account, revenue, and campaign information to help them better manage
their business through the “Lights & Colours” solution.

Benefits to the end consumer

• Faster turnaround time.

• Consumers enjoy a more convenient way to share proofs and order prints.
The “Lights & Colours” solution is completely hassle free, including
additional print ordering at any time in the future.

• Consumers can select any of their needed packages according to their

need.

• Easier to find a photographer required for the event.

• Consumers can focus on all the other things they have to manage on an
event and leave the headache of capturing the moments on us.

While “Lights & Colours”'s strategy benefits significantly from the widespread adoption
of digital photography as a standard, its entry strategy encompasses existing digital
photography technology. Through aggressive marketing and account acquisition, “Lights
& Colours” will be positioned as the dominant backend for the professional event
photography industry. Attractive markets for “Lights & Colours” include professional
photography in the following areas:

In order to understand the market of event photography an extensive market research was
carried out. The segmentation of the target, market size, growth rate and profitability
were then analyzed accordingly.

METHODOLOGY:

It is vital to remember that a thorough market, industry and competitor research requires
a combination of both primary and secondary data. The data collection methodology is
discussed below.

Primary Data
 Sample Questionnaire

In order to identify some key factors about the consumer behavior and market direction,
sample questionnaires of (both objective and subjective) were used.
 Sample size and selection process

30-35 respondents were randomly selected to fill up the questionnaire. 20 professional

photographers and 10 corporate houses were also selected to fill out the questionnaires.

 Questionnaire structure:

The questionnaire for individuals included 7 questions, professional photographers had 6

questions and corporate houses were asked 9 questions.

 Interview:

Personal interview was taken of M Shamsul Haque komol who is a professional

photographer and the owner of “Komol Photography” which is a wedding photography
company.

Secondary Data:
These included extensive research on:

➢ Websites

➢ Magazines

➢ Newspapers.

➢ Online journals and articles

All these collection of data were compiled together to analyze the event photography
market of Bangladesh and see how lucrative it is for start up business in this sector.

Keys to success
The keys to success are simply designing and providing services that meet market
demand. Additionally, “Lights and colours” must ensure total customer satisfaction. If
these keys to success are achieved, “Lights and colours” will become a profitable,
sustainable company.

Critical issues

“Lights and colours” is still in the speculative stages as a start-up business. The critical
issues are:

• Establish ourselves as a premium event photography company.

• Pursue controlled growth that dictates that payroll expenses will never exceed the
revenue base. This will help protect against recessions
• Constantly monitor customer satisfaction, ensuring that the growth strategy will
never compromise service and satisfaction levels
Strengths
• New positioning
As we are new in the market we will be able to capture a new image in the minds of
our desired customers with our offered services. We are hoping that our services will
not only leave our customers satisfied but also very delighted.

• Skilled personnel
Our main strength is our line of skilled photographers. They are very well trained and
has the capabilities to match the needs and wants of the customers.

• Attractive pricing
We offer a price which matches the customer’s expectations and is a major driving
force when it comes to facing competition.

• Online services
As the number of internet users growing day by day in our country , “lights and
colours” offers online services to its customer base to make transactions more
convenient for the net users.
• Delivery systems
We make sure that the photos of our customers ordered are delivered at their
doorsteps. This will not only save time for our customers but it will even help us to
build a strong relationship with them.

Weaknesses

• New in market
Since we are very new in the market it will be very difficult for us to build awareness
among people in the beginning of our operations.

Opportunities
• Promotion
The company has planned to carry out a massive promotional campaign in the
launching years as well as the subsequent years for establishing the brand image as
premium quality service at a competitive price. The objective will be build the
awareness and loyalty as well as establish the brand image as ‘Peoples Brand’

• Growing trend
Over the last couple of years event photography has come in to the scene offering
wide variety of photographers and their services. The customer base has become very
conscious about who they hire to capture the greatest moments of their lives. So we
are taking advantage of such opportunity and hoping to grow as new opportunities
will come in our way.

• New technology:
There are wide variety of gadgets and software available for taking good pictures and
putting effects to make them in to pieces of art. We are willing to update our services
everyday with the help of the new technological advancements.

Threats
• Introductory failure image
Since we are new in the market it will be difficult for us to attract our desired
customer base.

• Strong competition

Over the couple of years a number of big players have already entered the market and
grabbed a huge chunk. These players are also trying to grab the market and building
their reputations gradually. Moreover, more new entrants, specially those with strong
financial muscle might enter into this sector or massive expansion by existing
companies may trigger price war and a very competition in grabbing the market, the
profitability of the company which may impair.

• Trade license
To legalize our business we will first pursue the local government to examine the
span of our business and we will seek for approval from the central government. Then
if the requisition to establish our business is approved then central government will
send the legalised trade license and the respective documents to the local government
and then the local government will provide us with a trade license with which we will
start our operations legally.

• Contracts with photographers

We will hire photographers on part time basis and they will be given salary based on
their work but not on a monthly basis. The photographers who will work for us will
not be allowed to work under any other banners but if they want to pursue a career of
their own they are allowed to do so.

• Contracts with different companies

If any event management firm or any other companies are in a contract
with us then they are not allowed to go in a contract with any other even
photography companies. If they violate any terms of our contract then
legal actions will be taken against them.

Recruitment and Selection

The basic idea behind hiring personals would be on part time basis. It would be done on
contact basis, a single person would be an assignment and if the job is done properly only
than he/she would be hired the next time.
In the recruitment phase various advertisements would be used. The basic media would
be internet, posters, banners and personal contacts. We plan to get as much as applicants
possible. With high number of applicants we would
certainly get many talented and experienced
photographers. The recruiting advertisement would
describe the required tasks in the job. “Lights & Colours”
would want its partners (employee) to be good with people
and willing to travel any time of the day or night.

The selection on the personnel’s would be done using the

following criteria:

One thing that would be pivotal in the selection process

would be that the person should own a camera. Semi
professional camera (DSR) or any camera with the same
function as Nikkon D90 or Cannon 50 D would be
preferred.

• Professionalism - To understand ones professionalism an interview is must.

• Dedication- To be successful in the field of photography one must have passion.
• Experience- An experience of at least two years in necessary, one working with
newspapers or magazine would be preferred.
• Photographer’s Portfolio- It contains all the best photos of the person concerned.
This would us provides a basic understanding of the capability of the
photographer.
• Communication skill
All this skill will be rated form 1-5, with 5 being the best and 1 being the least. This way
we would be able to find the best person.

Manpower Plan
This aspect of the plan deals with the amount of persons required to run the business
soundly. It should neither be too much or too little. If too many people are hired than
required, the company would lose out on valuable resources, in the form of salaries. On
the other hand if too less persons are hired the company would be struggling to provide
service to its customers. So an optimal manpower plan is required in order for the
business to be successful.

As we are uncertain about the amount of

the jobs we would be getting, a perfect
solution can be found by hiring “part
timers”. We also have an advantage as we
don’t have any plan of setting up office in
the preliminary stage. So no administrative
personals would be required. The basic
requirement for various personal is very
low. Moreover the owners of the business
can chip in with their expertise in the
major fields like- marketing, financing,
management, accounting and e.t.c.

At “Light and Colour” we plan to have about 3-5 photographer at the beginning stage of
business. All of them would be part timers. As there is no need of administrative office
we would contact them over the phone. An initial meeting would be held, briefing the
photographer about the current assignment. The cost advantage of this system is
immense.

As discussed in the five year business plan, we would be going into legal agreement with
various corporations. This will help the company “Light and Colour” expand its business
and thus it will require more and more photographers. If the company is successful we
would hire and need additional five employees. At the later stages of the company there
would also raise a necessity to hire full timers in the company. This would only be
required if the company attains all of its goal and objectives.
Compensation & Benefit

As all of our partners (employees) are part timers there will no base payment for them. It
will be totally contact base. Each and every person will paid 60% of the actual payment
made to us. Our work will
mainly be of third party
agent. We would be
bringing the buyer and
seller together. This way
we would be able to
provide service to our
customers. On the other
hand we don’t need to give
other benefits in form of bonuses, raise in pay and etc. This way we can cut down our
cost significantly. One of the drawbacks in the system is that there is not room for
improvement and the chance for promotion is almost nil. So lack of motivation will be a
major stumbling block in the business. Moreover the payment will be only than after the
job is done. The maintenance of the system is also significantly easy as a simple ledger
books could be kept.

Training and Development

The key word in the training and development program is on the job training.
Photography is an art and this can only be perfected through practice. More a person is
consigned to a job the better he/she get. As one of the founding members of the company
is a professional photographer the process of training becomes quite effortless. The
experience of Ruhan will be critical for the development of many underperforming young
professionals. At first one who is hired would be sent as an assistant to Ruhan. Only after
an approval from him, he/she can be send as a led photographer in any given assignment.
These processes of development will ensure that a perfect quality is maintained.

“Lights & Colours” will revolutionize the market for professional photography. More and
more people will be interested to take photography as their full time profession. It will
also change the people’s point-of-view about the photographers in Bangladesh. People
will start to hire professional photographers to capture their precious moments by which
they will be able to hold onto their precious memories. This will encourage the existing
armature and studio photographers to actually learn and get trained on photography and
then come back to the market to compete. This will not only enlarge the market of
professional photography but it will also increase the quality of the photography in a very
great deal. Through the help of “Lights & Colours” the ongoing trend of professional
photography will see new light and a new era of a new business will rise with great
success.
