Letter of Complaint

Work is being done on the street where you live. The noise is disturbing you. Write a letter of complaint
to your local council. In your letter:

 Introduce yourself
 Explain what the problem is
 Suggest solutions to the problem
Dear Councillor,
My name is Eniola Amu. I live on Assiniboine road where road construction is currently going on and
would like to inform you about how this has affected me negatively.
There has been a great deal of noise caused by this construction which normally continues into the
night. This has been going on for 1 month now and has caused my productivity during the day to decline
as I am always tired from lack of sleep due to the loud noise. Yesterday, the construction work did not
end until 3 a.m. in the morning, I was unable to sleep all through this period and had to cancel my
appointments for the day due to serious fatigue.
I appreciate the good work that is being done to improve the condition of our roads but I would like to
suggest that a different time schedule should be created for the workers. I learnt that construction does
not start until 4 p.m. which explains why it continues to so late into the night. I suggest that the workers
resumption time is moved to the morning at around 9 a.m. so they can stop working on the roads before
8 p.m. This will ensure people with day jobs like myself can have a good night rest.
I look forward to your response. Thank you for your consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Eniola Amu

Opinion Essay
With the increased global demand in oil and gas, undiscovered areas of this world should be opened up
to access more resources. To what extent do you agree?
The demand for oil and gas has increased worldwide over the years. In my opinion, locations with
untapped natural resources should be opened up for exploration in order to boost the oil and gas
industry. However, this should be done with restrictions so as to ensure such areas are not exploited in
a harmful manner.
There are evident benefits attached to increasing the access of oil mining companies to undiscovered
areas naturally endowed with oil and gas. Firstly, this will help expand the oil and gas sectors of
countries all over the world and will be especially beneficial to countries which are predominantly
financed by their oil and gas sector. Secondly, it will increase global trade by creating an opportunity
for increased exports for various countries leading to an improvement in their overall output.
On the other hand, it is important to note that some of these organizations end up exploiting newly
discovered locations in a way that becomes hazardous and unconducive for the people living in such
areas. Therefore, the activities of oil exploring organizations should be closely monitored by the
government to ensure that they are not putting the safety of the individuals in those localities at risk.
For example, in 2017 there was an oil spillage in a Nigerian locality where oil companies had built
factories and this led to an explosion which claimed the lives of many Nigerians in that area. This may
have been avoided if the company was held to strict guidelines on how to carry out its exploration
activities without endangering lives.
In conclusion, the benefits of future oil exploration in areas with untapped resources should be utilized
but not at the expense of the citizens of the country. The government should therefore subject
exploration companies to strict rules on best practices and give penalties to those that disobey the
regulations that have been put in place.

Advantages and Disadvantages Essay
With the rise of e-books comes the decline in paper books. Some people see this as a good step forward
while others do not. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend??
The increase in use of online books is considered by some as a positive inclination while other people
are of the opinion that its effect is negative. The transition from hardcopy books to e-books will help
reduce deforestation due to the decreased need of paper books which is gotten from the cutting down
of trees. However, this will have a downside which is the potential shutdown of most printing presses
as their major source of revenue is from printing paper books.
On one hand, there are environmental benefits to moving towards online books and abandoning the
paper ones. Many trees will be preserved through this shift and the problems created by deforestation
can be significantly reduced. In addition, the soft copy books are not subject to wear and tear unlike
paper books which are not durable. Soft copy books can be used and passed on to future generations
without the pages being worn out or torn.
On the other hand, the reduction in the use of paper books will cause printing presses that manufacture
these books to lose a lot of business and most likely close down. This will result in the loss of livelihood
for many people as many people will end up unemployed. To this effect, there may be a decline in the
general standard of living of those previously employed by the printing presses as they will not be able
to provide for themselves and their dependants.
In conclusion, we are in a technological age which requires companies like printing presses to find ways
of integrating technology into their business so as to avoid becoming irrelevant. There are clear benefits
to the use of e-books over paper books for consumers. It is expected that the market will tilt towards
the demand of consumers who are constantly seeking convenience. This means the full transition to e-
books is unavoidable and businesses that will be affected need to be prepared.
