TAEKWONDO WHITEBELT REVIEW GUIDE

1. What is the meaning of Taekwondo? Taekwondo is an unarmed Korean martial art. "TAE" means to kick; "KWON" means to punch; "DO" means the
art or way.
2. What is the purpose or objective of Taekwondo? The purpose or objective of Taekwondo is mental and physical development.
3. What are the tenets of Taekwondo? There are 5 tenets of Taekwondo, namely: Self-confidence, Modesty, Indomitable spirit, Perseverance and
Etiquette (SMIPE).
4. What are the whitebelt stances? There are 5 whitebelt stances, namely: ready stance, riding stance, forward stance, back stance,& kicking stance
5. What are the whitebelt blocks? There are 5 whitebelt blocks, namely: (1) low block, (2) double-arms middle block, (3) high block, (4) knifehand
block, and (5) knifehand middle block.
6. What are the whitebelt kicks? There are 6 whitebelt kicks, namely: (1) stretching kick, (2) front kick, (3) out-in kick, (4) in-out kick, (5) 45 degree
kick, and (6) side kick.
7. What are the whitebelt basics? There are 9 whitebelt basic movements, namely: (1) Forward Stance (FS) low block, (2) FS-double-arms middle
block, (3) FS-high block, (4) FS-middle punch, (5) FS-high punch, (6) Back Stance (BS) knifehand neck strike, (7) BS-knifehand block, (8) BS-knifehand
middle block, and (9) BS-knifehand neck strike reverse punch.

10. Give a brief history of Taekwondo. The beginnings of Taekwondo can be traced back by more than 2,000 years. Its existence in its early forms is
evident in the Koguryo (37 BC-668 AD), Silla (57 AD-935 AD), and Paekje (18 BC-600 AD) Kingdoms. Its existence is also documented in the Koryo
(935 AD-1392 AD) and Yi (1932 AD-1910 AD) Dynasties. Modern Taekwondo is under the direction of the World Taekwondo Federation. It has been
admitted as an international sport and is now an official member of the International Olympic Committee.
