Lesson Plan in MTB 1

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson the learner’s should be able to:

A. Identify synonyms and antonyms;


B. Show appreciation for the value of water; and
C. Give the synonyms and antonym of a word.

II. Subject Matter:


Topic: Identifying Synonyms and Antonyms
References: MTB Curriculum Pp.233
Materials: manila paper, cartolina, chalk/marker, charts

Value Focus: Sportsmanship and Teamwork

III. Learning Activities:


A. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review
Ask the pupils to recall what was the previous topic all about.
And let the pupils to tell what was the meaning of Homonyms.
Homonyms – are words that sound the same but have different
meanings.
There/their/they’re and to/too/two are sets of
homonyms that are commonly used (and
confused) by students, but there are many
others in the English Language.

B. Developmental Activities
a. Activity/Motivation:
 Teacher asks the students randomly to tell anything
about the following:
 Big in the class/anything small in the class.
 Clean in the class/anything dirty in the class.
 Black/white/colorful in the class.
 New in the class/anything old in the class.
 After this activity, tell the students that they will learn
some similar and opposite words.
b. Unlocking of Difficulties:

c. Presentation:
Focus on the following target words to unlock their meaning
through the suggested strategies. Teacher presents a “PICTURE” and
“EXAMPLES.”

 Through pictures, the children will discover the


synonym and antonym of the word. They will also
learn the meaning of the words “synonyms” and
“antonyms”.

d. Discussion:
Focus on these ideas:
What is synonym?
- A synonym is a word that has the same or nearly
the same meaning as another word.
 Examples:
Risha’s feet were cold, so she put on her
slipper.
Risha’s feet were chilly, so she put on her
slippers.
Big - large

What is Antonym?

- Antonyms are words that have opposite


meanings.
 EXAMPLES:
When it’s cold and wet outside it’s so nice to be
warm and dry inside.
Please fill the dishwasher and empty the trash.
Open – close
e. Generalization:
Remember these:
 Synonyms are words with the same meaning.
Present – gift
Cat – kitty
Frightened – scared
Quick – fast - speedy
 Antonyms are words with the opposite meaning.
Happy – sad
Cold – hot
Male – female
Fast – slow
Harsh – gentle
Up - down

Directions: Write in your activity notebook a letter S if Synonym and
A if Antonym.
