"School-Based Symposium for HIV/AIDS Awareness"

The spreading of virus is now rampant and one of this is a Sexually Transmitted Disease
known as Human-Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV).

Local Government Unit of Trento created a School-based Campaign for the Awareness of
the youth. The goal/objectives of the project were to make the students develop knowledge
and idea on the HIV/AIDs transmission, massage dissemination, prevention measures, care and
Treatment of HIV/AID’s patients etc through this.

One of the choosen school where this will conducted is the Father Saturnino Urios
College of Trento, Incorporated. The participants are the Grade 10 and the Senior High School
Students where it is very rampant. Sir Allenjoe Lumanta with his subordinates discuss all about
the effects of HIV/AIDS to evryone. They have discuss every twelve seconds someone in the
world is infected by HIV. When HIV is not treated properly, it will lead to AIDS and even worse,
to death. Therefore HIV and AIDS are an enormous problem. Most people know that HIV is
dangerous, but most of these people do not know what HIV and AIDS exactly are, what they
cause and how to prevent an infection. HIV is one of the most common sexually transmitted
diseases in the world and is considered pandemic by the World Health Organization.
Nevertheless, complacency about HIV may play a key role in HIV risk. Since its discovery in 1981
to 2006, AIDS killed more than 25 million people. HIV infects about 0.6% of the world's
population. In 2009, AIDS claimed an estimated 1.8 million lives, down from a global peak of 2.1
million in 2004. Approximately 260,000 children died of AIDS in 2009. A disproportionate
number of AIDS deaths occur in Sub-Saharan Africa, retarding economic growth and
exacerbating the burden of poverty. An estimated 22.5 million people, 68% of the global total,
live with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, which is also home to 90% of the world's 16.6 million
children orphaned by HIV. Treatment with antiretroviral drugs reduces both the mortality and
the morbidity of HIV infection.
Although antiretroviral medication is still not universally available, expansion of antiretroviral
therapy programs since 2004 has helped to turn the tide of AIDS deaths and new infections in
many parts of the world. Intensified awareness and preventive measures, as well as the natural
course of the epidemic, have also played a role. Nevertheless, an estimated 2.6 million people
were newly infected in 2009.

They have presented the table which regards to the effected person in whole Agusan del
Sur and the Municipality of Trento is top 4 in the list that has a 19 patience who is infected. Five
of them are continuing taking their medication and some are continuing to spread it. The LGU of
Trento conducted a HIV/AIDS test to make sure that no one is infected with that virus.

As an Urian, we must be aware and one of the knights to stop this epidemic disease and
to have a brighter tomorrow. Let us "Spread the Love, not the Virus".
