4. SESSION GUIDE
The main purpose of this session is to let pilot trainees practice FMS and AFS exercises. During flight Instructor will also demonstrate the flight envelope
protection. In this session pilot trainees will also be introduced for Non-precision Approach procedure.
Pilot trainees shall prepare takeoff data with weight and condition according to syllabus in advance. At briefing room, present takeoff data to the Instructor at
the beginning of pre-session briefing for discussion.
FMS exercises during cockpit preparation are:
- A/C status
- INIT page 1
- INIT page 2
- F-PLN page 1
- TAKEOFF page
Cockpit preparation from entering cockpit until ready for engine start should not more than 25 minutes for this session.
During cockpit preparation, if there is no APU or EXT PWR, then it might be required to start one engine with battery with external pneumatic, in order to obtain
electrical power supply to perform prestart checklist. The other engine may be started using engine cross-bleed.
Before takeoff, if windshear is reported by preceding aircraft, pilot shall apply windshear prevention according to FOM.
If there is possibility of departure RWY or departure procedure change, it is recommended to prepare alternate departure RWY and/or procedure in SEC
F-PLN. If RWY in use or departure procedure is changed just before line up for takeoff, pilot shall set the FMS, AFS, FCU and NAV AIDS for the new RWY
and perform briefing accordingly.
During climb and cruise, Instructor may demonstrate Flight envelope protection.
- Demonstrate V ,V – High pitch (positive and negative) during climb.
MIN MAX
- Demonstrate V and V protection during descent.
MIN MAX
- Demonstrate MACH , MACH – High pitch (positive and negative) at FL310.

The flight will then be cleared to the VOR or NDB, or radar vectored, for non-precision approach. Be prepared for any kind of non-precision approach at
Bangkok. Pilot trainees shall decide which procedure to be performed, step down or CANPA. However, Instructor may require pilot trainees to perform a
specific procedure for training purpose.
The flight may encounter windshear on final approach. Follow windshear procedure in AOM. ATC will then vector the aircraft for second approach, which will
also be non-precision approach.
Second approach (if time permit) will also be non-precision approach at Bangkok.

5. SELF-TESTS
1. What should be the aircraft configuration and speed at FAF?
2. What is the rate of descent after FAF when executing CANPA approach for VOR 21R at BKK?
3. Specify the VDP for VOR 21R at BKK.
