0. INTRODUCTION

To satisfy the requirements of this NIOEC specification, Iranian Petroleum Standard

IPS-E-CE-340 with the modifications as specified here in after shall be strictly followed.
Article 1 through 4 of this document replace entirely the related articles in the referenced IPS
standard.

1. SCOPE

NIOEC specifications cover the general requirements for detailed engineering procurements,
testing inspection & construction of refinery/oil plant, distribution depots, pump stations and
pipe lines.

This NIOEC Specification prescribes the water resources and provides recommendations for
preliminary planning and engineering of central water supply systems ( intake facilities plus
distribution network ) serving the potable and non-potable water needs of a community.
More cover it sets out the quality requirements of potable and non-potable ( irrigation ) water
and design criteria for designing and sizing of water intake facilities, distribution systems,
service reservoirs ( including high level tanks) and pumping stations for residential areas in
methods that are technically and economically viable and acceptable.

2. REFERENCES

Throughout this Specification the following dated and undated standards/codes are referred
to these referenced documents shall, to the extent specified herein form a part of this
Specification.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any
supplements and amendments) applies. For dated references, the edition cited applies.
The applicability of changes in dated references that occur after the cited date, shall mutually
be agreed upon by NIOEC and the Vender / Contractor.

3. UNITS

International system of unites (SI) shall be used in accordance with NIOEC-SP-00-10, unless
otherwise specified.

4. DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY

- Ghant
Man made ( dug ) underground tunnel with moderate slope that collects the percolated
groundwater of a catchment area and with gradual decrease of its depth comes out to the
surface of earth as a spring at appropriate point for potable and or non-potable use of
mankind. The tunnel is dug through vertical walls approximately 100 meters apart, as
required, that act also as venting shafts for periodic inspection and maintenance of the "
Ghanat ."

- Contaminant
Any physical, chemical, biological, or radiological substance or matter in water.

4
MARCH, 2005 NIOEC-SP-10-13( 0 )

- Maximum Contaminant Level ( MCL )

The maximum permissible level of a contaminant in water which is delivered to the free
flowing outlet of the ultimate user of a public water system.

- Distillation
A process of evaporation and condensation used for the preparation of water of high
purity.

- Turbidity
Reduction of transparency of a liquid caused by the presence of undeserved matter.

- Drawdown
Drawdown at any instant is the difference between the static water level and the pumping
water level. Drawdown affects the yield of well.

- Well Yield
The volume of water discharged from a well per unit time. It is commonly expressed in
litres per second or per minute, or cubic meters per minute, hour or day.

5. ADDENDUM / MODIFICATIONS TO IPS-E-CE-340

This addendum revises the below listed articles of the referenced standard as follows:
