Chapter 1: Introduction to HP SimplePass
HP SimplePass is biometric software that protects the security of your data through the use
of fingerprint authentication. Fingerprint authentication is performed by scanning your finger
on a fingerprint sensor. SimplePass helps make your digital world more secure, more
convenient and more personal.
After installing the software and restarting your computer you will need to enroll your
fingerprints to create an association between your username, password and your
fingerprints together with automatically generated security keys. All the data is stored in the
user Identity. Use your fingerprint to manage your Identity and online experience.
After you enroll, you will be able to use your fingerprints to:

Chapter 2: Enrollment
You may wish to enroll additional fingers or delete fingers from your enrollment. It is
recommended that you always have at least two fingers enrolled.
1. Click on the desired finger. A blue circle will be displayed on the finger tip.
2. Swipe the selected finger across the sensor until your fingerprint is successfully
enrolled. The enrolled finger will have a green circle displayed on your finger tip.
Need additional assistance? Click the Help menu button and select How to Enroll a
Finger.
For one Windows account there can be only one Identity. To enroll another user a
different Windows Account is needed. See Control Panel > User Accounts to create a new
account.
NOTE: The Windows 7 Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) does not permit
enrollments for Guest or Built-in Administrator accounts. Simply create another
account with administrator privileges, or a new standard account. HP SimplePass
will work fine.

Delete Enrolled Fingers
Before deleting your last enrolled finger it’s important that you:
1. Remember your Windows user account password. Windows will require your
password to unlock your computer.
2. Print all web cards if necessary. Web cards can be printed using the Options Menu.
To delete an enrolled finger, right-click the finger you wish to delete and click Delete
finger or Delete all.

Chapter 3: Windows Log On
Windows log on allows you to unlock your computer conveniently and securely with the
swipe of your finger. After you lock your desktop, log off, or reboot your computer, the
application will prompt you to swipe any enrolled finger to verify your identity and grant you
access to your computer.
To disable Windows Log on feature you can navigate to Windows Control Panel >
Hardware and Sounds and search for Biometric Devices. Select Change Biometric
Settings.

Chapter 4: Website Log On
Remembering your user names and passwords is difficult. The website log on feature
makes logging on to password-protected websites easy with the swipe of your finger.
NOTE: If your Web Site Logon feature stopped working and your browser was
updated recently, please check http://support.authentec.com for a HP SimplePass
update.
Although we test carefully our software with a big number of sites, it may happen that
you encounter problems with some sites. Please, use the Report Issue option to les us
know about zour problems and fix the issue in later versions.
Open SimplePass… opens the fingerprint software.

Register a Website
Registering a website creates an icon and associated web card for that icon. The
associated web card displays the website name, website address, user name, password,
and other applicable information associated with the icon.
Log On to a Website
1. Open a web browser and navigate to one of your registered websites to log on.
2. Select the desired user account if you have multiple accounts registered on the
same website.
3. Swipe any enrolled finger across the sensor to verify your identity.
4. The application will automatically fill in your log on information and log you into your
account.

Chapter 5: QuickLaunch
QuickLaunch allows you to drag and drop icons to any enrolled finger and then swipe your
finger to launch the icons assigned to that finger. Icons can represent websites, folders,
software applications, and computer actions.
To enable QuickLaunch, click the Settings button on the menu bar and ensure
that QuickLaunch is enabled.
QuickLaunch allows you to swipe your enrolled finger once to verify your identity, and log
you into your registered websites. When you swipe your enrolled finger QuickLaunch will
launch a web browser, load the log on page, and then log you on to your account.
The application does not have to be opened to launch your assigned icons.
Add a Website
1. Click the Add Website button on the menu bar. The Add Website dialog box will be
displayed.

2. Enter the associated information.
3. Click Save. An icon will be added to the selected category.

Click the Select Category button and select desired category. Only the icons for that
category will be visible.

Chapter 6: Dock View
The dock view displays icons across the bottom of the application. Each website icon will
have an associated web card. The associated web card displays the website name, user
name, password, and other applicable information associated with the icon. Web cards can
be updated.
The Search bar is found in the bottom left corner of the application window. Mathing icons
will display as you type in the search box (You can search for a URL or its part, or for a
saved web card name or its part.)
Click the Select Category button and select the desired category. Only the icons for that
category will be visible.

Chapter 7: Grid View
The grid view displays web cards organized in a list by website name, user name,
password, and category.
The Search bar is found in the bottom left corner of the application window. Mathing icons

Chapter 8: Personalization
Change your Profile Picture
1. The profile picture is displayed in the user feedback panel where messages are
displayed. Scroll until the profile picture is visible.
2. Move your cursor over the profile picture until an icon is visible in the upper right
hand corner.
3. Click the icon to browse. The image file can be .JPG, PNG, .BMP or .TIF file.
Select Theme:
Website Log On: Enabling this check box allows the application to remember your user
names and passwords. Simply swipe your finger to log on to your favorite websites quickly
and securely.
QuickLaunch: Enabling this check box allows you to drag and drop icons on any enrolled
finger and then swipe your finger to launch the icons assigned to that finger. Icons can
represent websites, folders, software applications, and computer actions.

Fast User Switching: If fast user switching is included in your version of the application,
you will see a checkbox to enable this feature.
Fast user switching makes it possible for you to switch quickly between users without
logging off from the computer. Multiple users can share a computer and use it
simultaneously, switching back and forth without closing the programs they are actively
running.
Sensor Illumination: If your personal computer or USB peripheral comes with LEDs to
illuminate your fingerprint sensor, then you can use this checkbox to enable sensor
illumination.
Restore Default Icons: Clicking this button will restore all preinstalled icons that were
deleted.
The following information will be exported: registered websites, websites added using the
“add a website” feature, and the user profile. Enrolled fingers and icons assigned to enrolled
fingers will not be exported.
During the export process you will be asked to enter a passphrase. This passphrase is used
to encrypt your identity. It is important that you remember your passphrase. You will be
asked to type your passphrase when you import your identity.

3. Type your passphrase. Your passphrase can be a word or a group of words that will
be used to secure your identity. You will be asked to enter your passphrase when
importing your identity.
4. Click the Next button.
5. Browse to the desired directory and click Save.
6. Swipe an enrolled finger across the sensor to verify your identity. Your identity has
been saved. The file will have the .tsd file extension.

Chapter 11: KeepSafe (optional)
KeepSafe is an additional fingerprint enabled software application purchased from
AuthenTec Store. It is not preinstalled on the computer with HP SimplePass.
KeepSafe allows you to encrypt your files in a protected folder. The folder can be shown on
your Desktop or in Computer. This folder will not be visible for other users sharing the
computer.
When the KeepSafe folder is unlocked, you can work with it as with a standard folder
(delete, copy, or rename files, etc.). Just drag n' drop your pictures, personal files, and
folders into the Safe icon on your desktop. Swipe your finger to lock or unlock your files so
only you can access them. It's that simple!
Installing KeepSafe
1. Run the appropriate 32-bit or 64-bit installation file from the installation folder
manually.
2. Click Next to continue.
3. Click the Browse button to select another installation folder. Uncheck the checkbox
if you do not want KeepSafe shortcut to be placed on your Desktop. Click Next to
continue.
4. Ready to Install the Application dialog appears. Click Next to start the installation.
5. When the installation has completed, click on the Finish button.
6. Click on Yes to restart your computer when prompted. You must reboot your
computer before you begin to use KeepSafe.

7. The installation is now completed. After you restart the computer, the fingerprint
logon to Windows will be enabled. You must enroll your fingers to start using the
software. See Enrollment chapter.
Uninstalling KeepSafe
To unlock/lock KeepSafe
Select the folder and right-click to display the context menu and select Unlock/Lock.
Authentication is required for unlocking (fingerprint or master/Windows password).
1. Open KeepSafe. Drag & drop files into KeepSafe folder as when you are working
with standard Windows folder.
2. Open KeepSafe. Copy files into the folder either by using keyboard shortcuts or by
right-click Copy/Paste method.
3. Select the files (or folders) and right-click to display the context menu.
Choose Add to KeepSafe. This way you will be asked whether to keep the original
file or delete it.

Location of KeepSafe
The KeepSafe archive can be found in your profile directory and this location is fixed:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\KeepSafe\keepsafe.swp
It is mostly marked as hidden, so you have to enable hidden files in Explorer first to be able
to see this file (Tools -> Folder options -> View). It is highly recommended to keep a backup
of the KeepSafe archive.
