Innovators’ Corner
Huntsville, AL
March 17-18, 2020
Welcome to xTechSearch 4.0 Phase III – Innovators’ Corner
We are excited to welcome you to the 2020 Association of the United States Army
(AUSA) Global Force Symposium & Exposition (GFSE) in Huntsville, AL from 17-18
March 2020, that will feature the xTechSearch 4.0 Phase III Innovators’ Corner
competition sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics,
and Technology (ASA(ALT)). The Innovators’ Corner will be located in North Hall 2 of
the Von Braun Center, and will feature the top 20 small businesses that were selected
from the 350 xTechSearch 4.0 applicants.
xTechSearch 4.0 Phase III companies will each have 20 minutes on the Innovators’
Corner stage to describe their Army impact, business potential, Phase IV demonstration
plan if selected, and their team to a panel of subject matter experts. Ten (10) small
businesses will be selected by the panel to receive a prize of $120,000 and an invitation
to Phase IV where they will have a chance to demonstrate proof-of-concept of their
technology at the AUSA 2020 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. in October 2020.
One (1) grand prize winner will be selected from Phase IV to receive an additional
$250,000 prize.
2
xTechSearch 4.0 Background:
Phase 1 - xTechSearch 4.0 Phase I received 350 white papers that were reviewed by
subject matter experts and Army stakeholders from across the Army research and
development, acquisition, requirements, and user communities. 48 companies were
selected from Phase I to receive $5,000 and an invitation to pitch their technology
concept live during Phase II.
Phase II – Companies were invited to pitch live to a panel of experts from the same
Army organizations as the Phase I white paper reviewers. Three (3) pitch venues held
in Playa Vista, CA, Austin, TX, and Philadelphia, PA hosted 16 companies each,
organized around similar technology types or applications. The top 20 companies were
selected for Phase III based on Army impact of their technology, scientific viability of
their approach, dual-use potential, and their team.
Phase III - 20 small businesses have been invited to the AUSA GFSE to showcase their
technology and provide them with a great opportunity to network with key leaders, Army,
DoD, academia and other industry members. Ten (10) companies will have exhibit
space each day and will pitch on stage to a select panel of judges that will be open to
the public attending AUSA GFSE. Each company will have 20 minutes to pitch and
answer any questions from the judges. Companies will be evaluated for Army impact of
their technology, business potential, Phase IV demonstration plan if selected, and their
team ability.
NOTE: Companies will not be able to provide the same level of technical detail and
discuss proprietary data that was presented during Phase II due to the open nature of
the AUSA GFSE. Copies of white papers and proprietary pitch decks are available to
government employees upon request.
Phase IV - 10 small business finalists will be announced on the morning of 19 March
2020 at the AUSA closing ceremonies and each will receive a prize of $120,000 and 6
months to demonstrate proof-of-concept for their xTechSearch technology at the Phase
IV: xTechSearch Proof of Concept Demonstration at the AUSA Annual Meeting, 12-14
October 2020 in Washington, DC.
xTech Accelerator - In addition to the prize money and invitation to Phase IV, the ten
(10) finalists will also be invited to participate in the xTech 4.0 Accelerator program.
Operated by FedTech, the xTech 4.0 Accelerator will offer innovation programming
including training, mentoring, and community building to develop xTechSearch
participants as quickly as possible so that they can transition technologies to the
warfighter. The xTech Accelerator will also include guidance on product development
for dual use technologies, and connections to private technology development
programs.
