Sand Conforming to Grading Zone-II of Table 4 of IS:383-1970

1.Target Mean Strength of Concrete

For tolerence factor of 1.65 ( Ref : IS:10262-2000 for CL:3.2 )

Target Mean Strength = fck + 1.65xs Where fck = Characteristic Compressive Strength
= 25 + 1.65 x 4 s = Standerd Deviation ( Ref Table 1 of IS:10262 - 2009 )
= 31.6 N/mm2

Detailed calculations for M25 Grade concrete:

Target strength = (fck+1.65 x S ) = [ 25 + 1.65 x 4.0 ] = 31.6 N / mm2
2. Selection Of Water - Cement Ratio.

From Table 5 of IS:456-2000, Maximum Water - Cement Ratio = 0.5

Based on experience,adopt water-cement ratio 0.46
0.44 < 0.5. Hence O.K

3. Selection of Water - Content

From Tablle 2 of IS:10262-2009 Maximum Water Content for 20mm Coarse Aggregate. ( for 25 to 50 mm slump range ) 186 Litre
(increaseby about 3 percent for every additional 25mm slump) (Ref: IS: 10262-2009, CL 4.2,Page-2 )
Water content increased by lab trial ( % ) 20.4 Taking initial slump ( mm ) 220
Required Additional Water for ( 120 - 150mm ) slump. = 37.944 Litre
Estimated Water Content for 120 - 150mm slump = 223.944 Litre

As Admixture Conplast SP430 G8 dis is used the water content can be reduce up to 20% and above.
Based on trial with Admixture water content reduction of 26% has been achived.Hence the arrived water content = 165.72 Litre

4.Calculation of Cement Content

Water - Cement Ratio = 0.46

Cement Content = 360.3 kg

From Table 5 of IS 456-2000 ,Minimum Cement Content for "Moderate"exposure condition is 300 kg/cum
360 kg/m3 > 300 kg/m3 , Hence O.K

5.Proportion of Volume of Coarse Aggregate and Fine Aggregate Content.

From Table 3, volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size aggregate and fine aggregate ( Zone II )
for water - cement ratio of 0.5 = 0.620

In the present case Water - Cement ratio is 0.44 Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased
to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the Water - Cement ratio is lower by 0.06 , the proportion of volume of
coarse aggregate is increased by = 0.008
Therefore, Corrected proportion of volume of Coarse Aggregate for the Water - Cement Ratio of 0.44 = 0.628
( Note - Incase the C.A is not angular one, then also volume of coarse aggregate may be required to be increased suitably, based on experience. )

For Pumpable concrete these value should be reduced by 10 percent.( IS:10262-2009, CL 4.4.1 )
Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate ( Vca ) = 0.6154
Volume of fine aggregate content ( Vfa ) = 0.3846

6.Design Mix Calculations ( Ref. IS: 10262 - 2009 )

Absolute volume of
Cement PPC [ 360.0 / 2.98 ] X ( 1 / 1000 ) = 0.1217 cum
Water [ 165.72/ 1.0 ] x ( 1 / 1000 ) = 0.1657 cum
Admixture FOSROK [ 3.6 / 1.08 ] x ( 1 / 1000 ) = 0.0033 cum
Absolute volume of Cement + Water + Admixture = 0.2907 cum

Volume occupied by all in aggregate ( e ) [ 1 - 0.2899 ] 0.7093 cum

Mass of Coarse Aggregate 1 ( e x Vca x Sca x 1000 x 0.55 ) = 681.86 kg

Mass of Coarse Aggregate 2 ( e x Vca x Sca x 1000 x 0.45 ) = 557.89 kg
Mass of Fine Aggregate 2 ( e x Vfa x Sfa x 1000 ) = 714.65 kg

NOTE:-Aggregate should be used in saturated surface dry condition. If otherwise, when computing the requirement of mixing water, allowance shall be made for the free ( surface )
moisture contributed by the fine and coarse aggregates. On the other hand ,if the aggregate age dry,the amount of mixing water should be increased by an amount equal to the
moisture likely to be absorbed by the aggregate.Necessary adjustment s are also required to be made in mass of aggregates. The surface water and percent water absorption of
aggregates shall be determined according to IS:2386.
