About CSSEIP:
Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) at the University of Hyderabad
was established by the UGC under the 10th plan. The multi-disciplinary nature of the Centre is
reflected in its faculty drawn from diverse disciplines and the research being undertaken. The Centre
focuses its research on different dimensions and aspects of the marginal groups such as Dalits,
Minorities, Tribes, Women, Disabled, Transgender etc., The Centre also strives to provide critical
inputs into policy making on the issues of exclusion and inclusion by undertaking research at both
theoretical and empirical levels. It closely functions in collaboration with other research organizations.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an ambitious commitment by world leaders, which set
out a universal and an unprecedented agenda which embraces economic, environmental and social
aspects of the wellbeing of societies.
India played a prominent role in the formulation of SDGs and much of the country’s National
Development Agenda is mirrored in the SDGs. However, with 17 Goals, 169 targets and the 306
national indicators, the SDGs might be difficult to grasp and understand. Defining and measuring
success coupled with availability of little data poses a challenge as well. In this context, the seminar
would focus on SDGs related to the social sectors including health and sanitation and environmental
goals, especially the climate change and their relevance in the Indian context.
Objectives:
The seminar proposes to bring together academicians, researchers, policymakers, practitioners and all
the stakeholders on one platform to deliberate about the Key issues, challenges, and strategies to
achieve Health and Environment goals under SDGs in the Indian Context
To assess the synergies and convergences between SDGs and existing government schemes/ programs
with special reference to the environment and health.
