AIM: To cast a Beam by Beam Casting Machine
INTRODUCTION: Casting or Preparation of concrete specimens is required prior to the
testing of compressive and flexural strength or any other test on concrete. So, casting
a beam is the basic thing to be done because it involves with the basic tasks like mix
proportion, Bar Bending Schedule and casting in mould.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS:
1. Trowels – 2 Nos
2. Spade – 1 Nos
3. Tagari – 4 Nos
4. Bucket – 1 Nos
5. Pawda – 1 Nos
6. Weighing M/c – 1 Nos
7. Block Casting Machine with vibrator – 1 Nos
8. Measuring Jar – 1 Nos
9. Wheel Barrow – 1 Nos
10.Releasing Oil – 100ml
PROCEDURE:
 Lubricate all the moulds from inside with the help of oil and brush.
 Weigh all the ingredients of concrete as per mix design and quantities depending
on volume of concrete.
 Wash concrete mixer or mixing tray, scoop, trowel, graduated cylinder outside
the laboratory.
 Put the dry ingredients into the tray first and mixing is carried out for one
minute.
 Add half of the liquid and mix for about 2 – 3 minutes.
 Add remaining amount of fluid into the mixer or tray and thoroughly remix for
another few minutes.
 Place the Concrete in the mould and vibrate it as per the guidelines.
 Remove the Beam from the Mould after 24 hours and place it in the curing task.
DIMENSIONS:
925 * 160 * 100 = 14800000 mm3
Total Volume - P= 0.0148 m3
Considering Shrinkage & Wastage 54%
 Therefore required volume = 1.54 *P = 1.54 * 0.0148 = 0.0227 m3
MIX PROPORTION: (Mortar- Cement : F.A : C.A) = 1:1.5:3 (M20)
 Requirement of Cement: 0.0041 cum
 Requirement of cement in kg: 5.9 kg
 Requirement of sand : 0.0062 cum
 Requirement of sand in kg : 10.42 kg
 Requirement of C.A : 0.0123 cum
 Requirement of C.A in kg : 21.525 kg
 Water Cement ratio – say 0.40
 So requirement of water – 2.4 Lit
