WHAT IS HOLOGRAPHY
Holography (from the Greek, whole + write) is the science of producing holograms.

It is an advanced form of photography that allows an image to be recorded in three

dimensions.

It involves the use of a laser, interference, diffraction, light intensity recording and suitable
illumination of the recording.

HISTORY
DENNIS GABOR - FATHER OF HOLOGRAPHY AND HOLOGRAPHIC
TECHNOLOGIES.

DENNIS WROTE A PAPER IN 1948 THAT HAS BECOME THE

FOUNDATION OF MODERN HOLOGRAPHY.

THE MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT ALL THIS IS THAT LASER LIGHT
HAD NOT EVEN BEEN INVENTED YET, WHEN HE WROTE HIS PAPER

DISPLAY
► 3 D Technology ► Holography Technology
► The term "3D" is currently a ► Images seem to float in front of you.
limited viewing experience.

► 3D glasses required. ► Glasses free 3D display .

► No need for projection screen .
► Need projection display.
► Seems to be 2D. ► L00K like images

► Separate audio system. ► Interactive display

TYPES OF HOLOGRAPHY 6
A. REFLEX HOLOGRAM

Illuminated by a spot of white light source, from front

above.

The image consists of light reflected by the hologram.

Produces multicolor holograms, makes images optically

indistinguishable from the original objects.
7
B. Transmission hologram
Viewed with laser light, usually of the same type
used to make the recording

Need light source behind them

Virtual image can be very sharp and deep

C. Computer-generated holograms

No need for a real object

Interference pattern is calculated digitally, using algorithms

HOW HOLOGRAM WORK
8

Working of holography divided into

two phase:

1.Recording

2.Reconstruction of hologram
RECORDING OF HOLOGRAM
9

The basic tools require are :

Laser source, plane mirror, beam splitter,

an object and a photographic plate.

Holograms are produced in darker

environment.
Recording a hologram 10
12
1
Laser : Red lasers, usually helium-neon lasers are commonly used in holography.

Beam splitter : This is a device that uses mirrors and prisms to split laser beam of light into two
beams.

Object beam (directed onto the object) and

Reference beam (travels directly onto the recording medium)

Mirrors : These direct the beam of light to the correct locations.

Holographic film : Holographic film can record light at a very high resolution. Which is
necessary for creating a hologram. It’s a layer of light sensitive compound on a transparent
surface, like photographic film.
E.g : Silver Halide Emulsion
RECONSTRUCTION OF HOLOGRAM

The photographic plate

is illuminated with

Capturing of holographic video
15

3y replacing the conventional

holographic plate
with a digital camera
and an optoelectronic 2D screen,
we can capture and display
holographic video.
Projection of holographic video
16

Video hologram is coded into light

modulators

These light modulators are

illuminated by coherent light beam
source, to project video.
17
Advances in technology

Touchable holograms

Tactile holographic display with haptic feedback

Horizontal 360 view of a image on table top

user interfacing integrated display

FUTURE SCOPE AND APPLICATION 18

Educational applications

Marketing with 3D holographic display

3D simulation displays for scientific visualisation

Improved virtual reality and augmented reality

Telepresence and videoconferencing

In future all displays like televisions , mobile phone

displays, projector displays will be replaced by
holographic displays
20
Conclusion

Holographic Technology and spectral (imagining has

endless applications , as far as the human mind can
imagine

In future, holographic displays will be

replacing all present displays in all sizes , from small
phone
