ABORTION IN AMERICAN HISTORY
American history records that the strong anti abortion
laws which were passed in this country during the mid-
1800's were enacted by Protestants. Roman Catholic
had little influence in such areas due to their lack of
numbers and to restrictions placed on their participa-
tion in the political process Until the U. S. Supreme
Court decision of 1973 (Roe v. Wade), 47 state had
laws against abortion, yet Catholics were not a reli-
gious majority on more than one or two of those.

  A motto of the Society is "No work
of charity is foreign to the Society." This
past fiscal year (Oct. 2009 - Sept. 2010),
our St. Edward Conference helped needy and some
times desperate individuals and families with rent or
mortgage payments, purchases of medicine, gasoline
cards, utility bills, bus passes, car repairs, insurance,
etc. Thanks to the generosity of so many parishioners,
our assistance in '09-'10 amounted to thousands of
dollars.

Riding a bike. Using a new computer program. Ironing
a shirt. Training is important whenever anyone learns
a new skill. Training is important in Stephen Ministry
too. Before Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers
begin their work, they go through a lot of training.
When they start their official ministry, they're ready.
A training class for Stephen Ministers will begin in late
